TOKYO (AP) - Japan's Emperor Akihito will visit Hawaii this summer but skip Pearl Harbor.
The Imperial Household Agency said Friday that Akihito and Empress Michiko will visit Hawaii in July at the end of a two-week friendship tour that also includes Canada.
But the agency says the royals will not go to Pearl Harbor during their three-day trip to the U.S. state because commemorating the war was not the purpose of the visit.

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, killing nearly 2,400 Americans, wounding almost 1,180 and drawing the U.S. into World War II.
