BAGHDAD (AP) - A senior Shiite lawmaker says a Sadr City cease-fire has been signed in an effort to stop fighting.
Deputy parliament speaker Khalid al-Attiyah says the agreement was officially signed Monday, though it went into effect a day earlier.
He says government forces will be able to enter the Shiite neighborhood as early as Wednesday.
The deal was signed by five representatives of firebrand cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and four members of the main Shiite political bloc.
