William J. Merritt, President and Chief Executive Officer, reviewed InterDigital's accomplishments and strategy to continue to build shareholder value, stating, "Our solid achievements over the past several years give us confidence that we are well positioned to capitalize on the growth in the mobile broadband markets and in particular the rapidly expanding data-centric device opportunities. We are extremely pleased with the progress of our SlimChip(TM) family of mobile broadband offerings and expect that we will announce a design win in the first half of 2008."
At the conclusion of the formal business meeting, the company announced the retirement of D. Ridgely Bolgiano, InterDigital's Chief Scientist, after almost thirty years with the organization. After several years as a consultant for International Mobile Machines Corporation, the predecessor to InterDigital, Mr. Bolgiano was elected to the board of directors in 1980. One year later, he became one of the company's first employees as vice president and chief scientist. Mr. Bolgiano will continue to serve on InterDigital's Board of Directors.
"Ridge has been a key contributor to the technical and strategic direction of the company. His inventions include several of the company's key patents and he was one of the early architects of the company's successful patent licensing program," noted Mr. Merritt. "We have been very privileged having Ridge as a colleague, a friend, and an inspiration to all. We wish him smooth sailing, good health and happiness."
