2014-03-26 08:31:49 - Discussing the growing environmental concern and tackle challenges surrounding gas flaring reduction.
Around the world, approximately 150 billion cubic meters of natural gas is flared each year. Given the potential health and environmental affects of the chemicals released during flare stack, Fleming Gulf has launched Gas Flaring Reduction - Interactive Workshops scheduled to take place on 20-21 May at Park Rotana Abu Dhabi, UAE. Themed as 'Preparing for a Safer and Secure Energy Resource' the key focus of the workshop is to find solutions to reduce flaring for both economic and environmental reasons.
However, the growing environmental concerns and increasing gas demand has prompted the Middle East to move in a direction where the associated natural gas can be utilized. Bringing forth successful case studies for exploring alternative usage options and finding
value for flared gas, the attendees will be apprised by Fazal Ali Khan, CNG Development Manager from EMGAS. He will also expand on regulatory restrictions to achieve zero gas flaring targets, ways to enhance combustion efficiency and develop better control measures for flare management.
In Abu Dhabi, project owners including ADGAS, GASCO and ADMA-OPCO are executing flare gas recovery projects on their existing atmospheric flares on offshore associated gas and upcoming integrated gas development facilities. Addressing Flaring Reduction Initiatives by ADGAS the attendees will hear from Soumen Roy, Occupational Health and Environment Team Leader and Babu Krishnan, Environment Engineer. They will elaborate on the scope & results of flaring reductions projects and the road-map ahead.
After years of making progress to reduce flaring, Mahboob Mian, Environment Services Section Leader will present about ADMA-OPCO‘s “Multi Million Dollar Gas Processing Facility (GPF) Project in Zakum Fields“ and how it became the First Project within the Group to achieve “Zero Flaring“. On his views about intial challenges in incorporating the project Mr. Mian stated, "Gas processing facility itself is a part of oil and gas operation but challenge was to set up vapour recovery unit in GPF to collect the off gases, which normally go to the flare. This was a first test for company to achieve zero flaring and company successfully achieved."
Among the initiatives already taking place, a federal strategy is expected to outline how to reduce the UAE’s environmental impact. Stated in recent news "The document should be ready for review at the highest level this spring, said Aisha Al Abdooli, Under Secretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry." Fleming Gulf is proud to provide a platform to debate and discuss the Gas Flaring concept in - depth through interactive workshops.
