Infobip, the world's fastest growing mobile messaging and mobile payments provider, announced today the launch of its ¥Coins virtual currency service aimed at both local as well as international content providers who are looking to establish themselves in the lucrative Japanese market.
With ¥Coins, Infobip becomes the first international payments provider to offer this type of service to companies without presence in Japan, making it a unique offering in the global mobile payments and content monetisation segment. In the words of Paolo Rizzardini, Infobip’s Vice President Mobile Payments, “¥Coins mark Infobip’s entry in the Japanese market and we’re truly excited about this opportunity. We expect to bring our expertise in mobile payments and our global customers to Japan, and confirm our
worldwide market-leading position”.
¥Coins are an easy and convenient method for international content providers to monetise their services in the promising Japanese digital and mobile content market. As a virtual currency, ¥Coins (pronounced Yen Coins) are tokens exchanged for digital and virtual goods in games, social networks and online worlds, and are accepted in all services of a single provider.
The consumer – mobile or online user – purchases ¥Coins via direct mobile billing, charging the amount directly to the consumer’s prepaid or post-paid mobile account, available on all mobile operators in Japan.
Alternatively, game cards from Japan’s leading providers are also accepted for top-up.
Due to Japan's specific market requirements and regulation, where local presence is required in order to launch a paid content or m-payment service, aspiring companies can break into the Japanese market thanks to the turnkey solution provided by Infobip ¥Coins. Ilija Krklec, Infobip’s Business Development Manager for Japan, says, “Launching in any new market is a daunting task, but Infobip knows the Japanese market well.
With ¥Coins, international content providers get the opportunity to monetise their services in Japan and enter this demanding but profitable market”.
Infobip will be presenting ¥Coins for the first time at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, one of the leading industry events for mobile gaming and content. Tokyo Game Show takes place from 19-22 September 2013 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, Greater Tokyo, and Infobip is exhibiting at booth no. 4-N65.
