2014-02-01 09:51:47 - Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a purification technology operated on water which removes numerous categories of molecules and Ions from water solution this technology is applied for both Industrial as well as for producing Domestic Potable water.
The process of industrial RO water purification treatment is carried where the pressure is applied through pumps on a solution with high concentration of dissolved solids, causing water to pass through the membrane by this concentrated Solution. The water which is released is referred to as the final product for use. The waste is flushed to drain as the dissolved solid are blocked to pass through the membrane. This activity of flushing out the waste leads the membrane surface to foul and scale.
There are certain key disparity between RO and Filtration; filtration is a process where there are no operational parameters involves like such as influent pressure and concentration. Industrial RO water system is the highly recommended type of water
treatment which is carried by letting water under higher pressure of semi-permeable membrane, where it diminishes up to 99% of dissolved minerals, Ions, Organic and other particles. The process is named as Reverse Osmosis because it is the opposite of natural osmotic Process.
The factors involved in the industrial RO water system which leads to provide purified water as a product which can be further utilized. The first step involves the process of pressure threshold wherein the flux increases with the increase of pressure; flux is the optimisation of product water which is made by membrane but this cause scaling or fouling problems. The RO units are scaled at 77˚F. Recovery is the stage where the percentage of feed water is converted into the product water. The last stage comprise of the pre-treatment and the post-treatment wherein the quality of the product water is judged upon the condition and quality requirement like for an example if the raw water is restrained with chlorine, hardness, high total dissolved solids, turbidity and Iron then there is a need of pre-treatment process to extend the life of the membrane and for the enhancement of the system performance. Otherwise in the state where the quality of water needs to be processed for ultra-purity or require sterilized water, then post-treatment step is to be carried out.
