His Excellency, Mr. George Joseph, Indian Ambassador to Qatar was the chief guest on the occasion. Doha (August 20, 2008): Indian expatriates working at Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) celebrated 62nd Independence Day of India here on Sunday at Ras Abu Fontas power stations amidst patriotic fervors with flag-hoisting ceremonies; rendition of the national anthem and a number of other programmes.
India's Ambassador to Qatar His Excellency, Mr. George Joseph was chief guest on the
occasion. He hoisted the Indian national flag on the station premises to begin the celebration.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of Indians and other nationals employed with QEWC including senior functionaries of the company. Mr. Fahad Al- Mohannadi, QEWC's General Manager, Mr. Hasan Al- Muftah, Production Manager, Mr. Mubarak Al- Nasr, Maintenance Manager, Mr. Rashid Al- Hajre, Senior Public Relations Administrator, Mr. Ramesh Dhawan, Head of Fire & Safety among others were present on the occasion.
The celebration also included a video presentation showing the economic growth of India in the last six decades.
The event was started with the verses of Holy Quran recited by Mr. Tauhid Alam followed by the Welcome speech delivered by Mr. Ramesh Dhawan. The programme was compered by Mr. Ganesh Krishnamoorthy, a senior staff of QEWC.
Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency, Mr. George Joseph called upon Indians to work with dedication, honesty and sincerity ensuring good name and fame to their country.
He further greeted his country's citizens on the occasion and thanked QEWC's management for organizing this historic event. He said that although he was leaving to other country but memory of this Independence Day celebration at QEWC will always be with him.
During his brief speech on the occasion, QEWC's General Manager, Mr. Fahad Al- Mohannadi congratulated the Indian community on their country's Independence Day and praised their sincerity, loyalty, hard work, and dedication towards QEWC.
Mr. Mushtaq Tamboli presented the vote of thanks. A souvenir was presented to the chief guest by QEWC's General Manager.
Lastly, His Excellency cut a cake to commemorate the occasion.
