2013-03-06 08:26:22 - Netraheen Vikas Sansthan (Indian Blind School - NGO in India Working for Blind Deaf and Dumb Students) is working for rehabilitation of blind, deaf & dumb and mentally retarted students since last 35 years in Suncity Jodhpur by providing free education with boarding and lodging facility separately for boys and Girls. The School was started on 15th August 1977 with only two blind students the number of which has gone to 514 at present out of which 167 are girls.

The school is registered with Registrar of Societies, Govt. of Rajasthan Vide Regd. No. 436/1978-79 and is recognised by Department of Education, Government of Rajasthan upto 12th standard. This is the only institute for girls with hostel facility in Rajasthan. The school is up to senior secondary level for blind. All the teachers many of whom are even blind also are well trained and highly qualified. The results of 10th and 12th Board exams have always been maintained at 100% since beginning of school. The Students of the school have been awarded several times Medals and Prizes not only at National, State and District level but also at International level in the field of various Education, Sports and Music competitions.

Vocational Training
Efficient artisans are employed to train the students in weaving bed sheets, towels, Niwar etc. They are also given training of canning chairs, and to make and sew bags and foot mats, candle making etc. All these activities are done under the scheme of Learn and Earn program where students are paid some remuneration.. The efficiency when achieved in a particular field naturally gives them the guarantee of self employment.

Training in Vocal & Instrumental Music
Trained Music teachers are appointed who give Training for different musical instruments like Harmonium, Tabla, Dholak, Flute, Bango, Gitar, Casio, Octopad, organ etc, as well as vocal music. After training the students from our institution have appeared for different certificate courses.

Planning for Self Dependence
First time in whole of India, this institution started a special self supporting plan under which a provision of giving National Saving Certificate of worth Rs 5000/- ( Five Thousand) to each of its student so that at the time of completing his/her education , he/she may start, with the maturity value, a business of their own or can persue higher studies.

Blind school Facilities

Separate Hostels for blind Boys & Girls
There is separate hostel facility available for girls and boys. During 1998-99 a hostel building was constructed for girls with co-operation of District Rural Development Agency and Donors. Three Wardens, peons, cooks and cleaners are also appointed. A good dinning hall with all the modern facilities is available. The students are served energetic break fast, lunch and dinner and a special diet once in a week.

School for Blind Boys and Girls
School building was constructed with the help of economic assistance by the social welfare department which provides education, training as well as hostel facilities to girls. Here we have total 21 trained teachers out of which 9 are blind. All the study materials and training is provided Free of cost to the students.
