Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) announced yesterday that it will donate 100,000 Memorex brand CDs and DVDs to local Mississippi school districts, including the DeSoto County School District, which has recently begun its new school year. The donation was announced in conjunction with a visit by U.S. Rep. Travis Childers (D-Miss.) to the Imation distribution center in Southaven.

Imation develops products that help people and organizations store, protect and connect with their critical data and markets its products under the Imation, Memorex, TDK Life on Record and XtremeMac brands. The company’s full optical portfolio includes Blu-ray discs, DVD R/RW and CD R/RW media, disc duplicators and publishers, printable CDs and DVDs, and CD storage cases. school districts will be used for a variety of purposes to aid learning and support the data storage needs of students, teachers, media center specialists and administrators.

“Imation is pleased to partner with DeSoto County Schools and other local districts to make this donation of CDs and DVDs, which are ideal for saving and sharing educational materials and resources,” said Keith Schwartz, director of strategic growth and public sector for Imation’s global commercial business. “We want to make these resources available to our local schools in the spirit of giving back to the communities where our employees live and work.”


“We are most appreciative of this generous donation,” said Katherine Nelson, spokeswoman for DeSoto County School District. “Our creative teachers will use these materials to integrate technology into classroom lessons and activities. Our students will use the Imation products to share and save great resources and student-generated work.”

Congressman Childers was on-site during the announcement, toured the facility and met with 160 Imation and Katt Worldwide Logistics employees at the site.

“Imation’s donation to Mississippi’s school districts represents an important investment in our children’s education,” said U.S. Rep. Travis Childers (MS-01). “I was honored to join Imation in presenting the CDs and DVDs to our schools, and I know that our students and classrooms will benefit greatly from these resources.”

Imation has a tradition of supporting communities through product donations. In the past, the company has donated flash drives, optical discs and consumer electronics to organizations such as the U.S.

military, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and many others.
