www.millercoors.com - The holiday season just got brighter with Miller Lite"s $20,000 donation to the ¡Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund. The donation will provide scholarships to Chicagoland Hispanic students 21 and older pursuing a secondary education.
Through the end of the year, participating Chicago retailers will feature unique Miller Lite point-of-sale materials to broaden awareness of
the availability of the ¡Adelante! scholarships. According to Ron Acosta, MillerCoors multicultural marketing manager-Chicago, Miller Lite is a founding partner of ¡Adelante! and has contributed more than $2.2 million to support educational programming and scholarships since its inception in 1993.
Acosta said Miller Lite is reaching out to the Chicago Latino community through local retailers to generate excitement for the ¡Adelante! program. "Miller Lite is committed to supporting the educational and leadership needs of the Hispanic community and ¡Adelante! partners with us by helping to prepare the next generation of Hispanic leaders," he added.
The POS materials include a tear-away form with information on how to apply for the ¡Adelante! scholarships. Scholarship applications and criteria will be available online through the ¡Adelante! website, www.adelantefund.org. All full-time, undergraduate students in the Chicago area 21 years of age and older with at least a 3.0 GPA are eligible to apply. The scholarship amounts will range from $1,000 to $1,500.
¡Adelante! currently provides approximately 100 scholarships annually to Latino students across the country and hopes to increase the reach of the program. "Latino college students have great potential to be successful in every aspect of their lives, but reaching that success can be challenging," Andria Macias-Castillo, executive director of ¡Adelante!, said. She noted that many Latino students struggle financially to participate in higher education and that is where the ¡Adelante! scholarships can help. "Miller Lite and ¡Adelante! are investing in our youth to develop Latino leaders for the future," she added.
