Trendy interior designs will come and go but the true timeless and classic styles will be here forever.
We have all made purchases that are trendy and that go out of style within five to ten years. As an interior designer I would suggest making, so called, trendy purchases in accessories and not in big ticket items such as furniture pieces, flooring or fixtures.
Classic decorating is made up of very classic styles that stand the test of time. The classics are often traditional but have an updated modern twist. Clean lines and transitional fabrics make for timeless decor. Rooms that are designed using the classics often use the more classic traditonal colors of times of past. These paint choices usually coordinate perfectly with all fabric choices you would use in a more traditional yet classic design.
When planning a
classic/traditional space you should plan down to the very intimate details of the room. Items such as finials and curtain rods are very important in a classic design. Making the right purchases up front will ensure that your room will stay in style for decades to come. Elegant and classic design is the most sought after in the interior design world. Who wants to reinvest in an entire homes furnishing, flooring and fixtures ten years down the line? Money well spent is essential in that once your room is finely detailed with the furnishing that you love and no detail has been spared will give you the opportunity in years to come to accentuate the positives in your rooms with accessories. This may include a more modern lamp or chair. You will certainly not have a need to replace anything major.
I have just released a new book entitled Timeless Elegance that will absolutely walk you through the process of creating elegant classic rooms in your home. All seventy pages are full of photos and designer direction in implementing this luxurious classical look in your home.
