As I'm sure most of you already know, The Dark Knight made crazy money this past weekend and broke previous records set by Spiderman 3. I finally saw it by myself Sunday night at 10:20 p.m. thinking I was going to avoid the crush of bat fanatics - Boy was I wrong!
Considering I was
at an older theater and wasn't partaking in the "IMAX Experience", I didn't mind sitting a fifth row non-stadium seat, but what I did mind was sharing both armrests with complete strangers while trying to balance my soda and cardboard tray of junk. Ugh!
As I was eating popcorn and trying to enjoy the film, one of the most unspeakable and horrifying sights I'd ever seen popped onto the screen. You probably assume I'm talking about Heath Ledger's absolutely terrifying performance as The Joker - but I'm actually talking about Nestor Carbonell's liberal use of eye-liner for his role as the Mayor of Gotham.
It's really a sight to behold. I started laughing to the chagrin of those around me since he was in serious scenes - But I just couldn't help myself. Believe it or not, he is only wearing about half the eyeliner in the pic on the left as he does in the the movie.
His Max Factor moments definitely took me out of the movie and led me to question how he got the part. I take that back, he was passable in the role - But after stints on TV's "Lost" and "Suddenly Susan", he is, after all, making the huge leap to the big screen and should be more careful with the image that's being projected. Since it really shouldn't be his job, how did director Christopher Nolan and his make-up artists let that gobbledy goop plop onto celluloid?
