Strong thriving small and medium businesses are critical to the economic health of California. Mark Holcomb is president of the Aptos, California based Holcomb Group and has been speaking out on the importance of state policies that encourage business growth.
“In 2008 alone we generated over 2.1 million dollars ($2,180,427) in taxes,” said company president Mark Holcomb. “Our tax dollars fund many of the programs and services state residents rely upon,” he added. The benefits of a healthy enterprise like the Holcomb group of companies extend beyond taxes. Last year more than 500 employees earned salaries that moved through the economy supporting their families and other businesses.
Santa Cruz County Supervisor Ellen Pirie’s Second District is home to the Holcomb Group and
she noted "Local businesses not only support local families with jobs but also support local governments, enabling them to provide parks, law enforcement, and other essential public services."
Holcomb referenced recent stories about the efforts of many governments in trying to attract new business by offering incentives. “I would hope that these same governments remember that keeping established businesses healthy and growing is even more important to the future financial health of the state,” he explained. Holcomb added with a smile “And it’s a lot easier because we’re already here and contributing.”
In addition to the dollars that directly flow into local and state government coffers and the economy, Seascape Resort :

and the other members of the Holcomb business family; Palapas Restaurant y Cantina :

, Holcomb Real Estate :

, and Seascape Wine and Spirits, play host to a large number of charitable and fundraising events and support an even longer list of community and non profit organizations.
