Just another handsome bachelor in Hollywood? No. Hill Harper, a regular on CBS' "CSI: NY" and a close friend and former classmate of Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, is a prime example of an Entertainment Industry celebrity who shuns the limelight, and prefers substance over style.
He's known as Dr. Sheldon Hawkes to the fans of the hit CBS drama CSI: NY,' but the Iowa native and Harvard Law School graduate is more concerned with providing motivation and inspiration to young men and women in the African-American community than he is with being nominated as People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive.'
Harper's second book, Letters to a Young Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny' is a follow up to his best-selling Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny,' which was influenced by the writings of the great 20th Century Poet, Rainer Maria Rilke (Letters to a Young Poet') and will be available in bookstores across the country on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Both books were written to provide encouragement
to young men and women, particularly of African-American descent. Harper even created a non-profit organization entitled The MANifest Your Destiny Foundation which helps provide high school students with scholarships, grants, and internship opportunities.
Harper will be discussing his career as an actor as well as his impact as a rising author on the BlogTalkRadio Internet Radio Network when he will be interviewed on Upfront & Straightforward with Alan Roger Currie' on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 10:00 PM EDT and 7:00 PM PST. Currie is a fan of Harper, especially after watching him interact with aspiring filmmakers in Chicago in Fall of 2005. Hill was very down-to-earth, very approachable. Intelligent, articulate, and very relatable. I was genuinely impressed by my conversation with him, and this was before I even knew he was going to be an author. I very much look forward to the interview.'
Harper earned an undergraduate degree from Brown University, and then later earned both a Master's Degree and Law Degree from Harvard, where he shared a few classes with Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Harper actually appeared in a video for Obama this past Spring. I already know that ninety-percent of my listeners during the interview will be women. The ladies love them some Hill Harper,' laughed Currie.
