SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/15/09 -- Heroku, the industry's leading Ruby cloud platform as a service provider, announced that it has named Byron Sebastian as the company's new chief executive officer. Sebastian, a veteran technology executive who has held senior leadership roles at BEA Systems, EMC, Crossgain, SourceLabs, and Amazon.com, joins Heroku as the company focuses on expanding its platform services, growing its base of 35,000 deployed customer applications and developing additional go-to-market channels.

"Heroku has proven itself to be the Ruby developer's platform of choice for building and running applications in the cloud efficiently and reliably,"
Sebastian said. "I'm super excited to join such a great team with an innovative, market-leading product and enthusiastic customers and partners as Heroku continues executing on our long-term vision for cloud application platforms and we grow our channels, value proposition, and overall business."

Heroku founder James Lindenbaum said, "Byron has unique experience building commercial platforms, and it's great to be bringing that experience into the company. Byron is a great fit with the unique cultures of both Heroku and the Ruby developer community. Heroku's growth over the last year has been far beyond our expectations. With Byron on board, the team and I can focus on expanding the platform and continuing to bring innovation to web app deployment."

"Byron brings proven leadership to Heroku with a strong track record of success in leading businesses, building and taking application platform products and services to market," said Scott Raney, General Partner, Redpoint Ventures. "Heroku's platform has enjoyed remarkable success in the marketplace, and now with Byron's combination of talent and experience will take the business to the next level of commercial growth. We are delighted to welcome him to the team."

Sebastian brings over 10 years of executive experience in application platforms, services, and infrastructure to his role as CEO of Heroku.
Sebastian's unique background spans developer tools and marketing operations, open source software expertise, and building solidly competitive product lines for Global 2000 businesses. Previously, Sebastian founded and led SourceLabs as CEO prior to joining EMC, served as Vice President and General Manager of BEA's WebLogic Portal and Workshop products while also running the company's developer marketing operations, and was Vice President of Product Management at Crossgain, which was acquired by BEA Systems.
