This year’s noted speaker for the Herbert G. Klein Lecture Series is Dr.
Charles Elachi director of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The lecture will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California and is open to the public.
As director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and vice president of California Institute of Technology, Elachi has been a principal investigator on a number of research and development studies and flight projects sponsored by NASA; including the Shuttle Imaging Radar series, the Magellan imaging radar at Venus, and the Cassini Titan. He is author of more than 230 publications in the fields of active microwave remote sensing and electromagnetic theory, and holds several patents
in those fields. He is also a professor of electrical engineering and planetary science at Caltech.
About the Herbert G. Klein Lecture Series
The Herbert G. Klein Lecture Series in Civic and Community Leadership was established by the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. The intent is to attract nationally distinguished leaders from a wide spectrum of disciplines to speak on the subjects of civic leadership, community activism and political participation to students, alumni and friends of USC. The lectures are held annually, providing opportunities for participation by area alumni, current and prospective students, as well as friends to the university. The level of speakers will be of the highest caliber, providing significant role models for students and young alumni.
