TelcoTV 2009 Booth #539 — Harmonic Inc. : (NASDAQ:HLIT) today announced that Santa Barbara Utilities (SBU) has selected Harmonic’s industry-leading digital video solutions for a new broadcast and on-demand IPTV service at the Santa Barbara Plantation Resort Community in Curaçao, the most populous island in the Netherlands Antilles. The end-to-end IPTV deployment includes Harmonic’s Ion™ AVC HD

encoders, ProStream™ 1000 stream processing platform, StreamLiner® video servers, Armada® intelligent asset management and NMX Digital Service Manager™.

“Harmonic offered an end-to-end solution that meets our requirements for quality, ease of implementation, and cost,” said Bert Perez, Director of Santa Barbara Utilities. “The Ion encoders provide superior quality at a competitive price. The broadcast headend, fully integrated with the on-demand servers and software, gives us a trouble-free solution for the IPTV portion of the Santa Barbara Plantation Resort Community’s triple play video, voice and high-speed data service.”

Standard definition video sources are received from satellite and multiplexed using Harmonic’s versatile ProStream 1000 stream processor for the IP encapsulation. The Ion AVC encoders are used to compress and deliver the HD channels for the broadcast service. On-demand assets are stored and delivered using Harmonic’s StreamLiner video servers and Armada asset management system, which dynamically distributes content across the network based on popularity. The entire video service is monitored and controlled via NMX.

“At Harmonic, we are focused on offering best-in-class video delivery solutions to operators of all sizes around the world. The all-IP solution deployed in Curaçao enables SBU to provide residents with a high quality video service without introducing significant complexity in the network architecture, and at a reasonable cost,” said Matt Aden, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Service for Harmonic Inc.

Harmonic will feature its comprehensive range of IPTV solutions at the TelcoTV 2009 exhibition taking place in Orlando, Florida from November 10-12.
