- On Saturday, H-E-B mobilized its Emergency Response Team and dispatched its Disaster Response Unit to Houston. The convoy of 30 to 40 vehicles and 12 H-E-B trailers will deliver much-needed relief supplies and services to the communities in the affected hurricane area. Twenty-four H-E-B Partners (employees) have volunteered to accompany the convoy and assist affected residents.
Supplies to be delivered include baby products, dry and canned goods, bottled water and toiletries. A mobile pharmacy unit and mobile Business Services unit are also part of the convoy to enable displaced residents to receive medications, cash checks and pay bills. H-E-B's Mobile Kitchen also joins the convoy to prepare and serve hot meals on-site to residents and volunteers.
The
dispatch of H-E-B's Disaster Response Unit is only one component of the company's overall crisis response. On Thursday, H-E-B delivered a truckload of donated baby product to the San Antonio Food Bank and on Friday, advanced a check donation of $70,000 to the Food Bank of funds its customers raised during a two month long giving campaign known as Help End Hunger. Additionally, more than 125 San Antonio area Partners (employees) have voluntarily been deployed to Houston to assist with the relief effort.
The relief effort extends to those here in San Antonio as well. Despite a significant spike in fuel costs over the last few days, H-E-B has committed to delivering fuel to H-E-B Fuel Stations throughout Texas and offering its customers the lowest possible fuel price.
As Hurricane Ike batters the Gulf Coast, H-E-B will continue to support its customers and communities during these times of need.
