KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) - Police say a German hotelier has been found stabbed to death in a tourist area east of the Jamaican capital.
Cpl. Claudette Baugh says a motorist discovered the body of 61-year-old Helmut Steiner early Friday near his hotel in the Portland district. Steiner's throat was slashed and he was stabbed several times.
Vincent Holgate is president of the Portland tourism association. He says Steiner lived in Jamaica for about 30 years and operated the Jamaica Heights guesthouse for at least half that time.

Nearly 550 people have been killed in Jamaica this year. Most of the violence is blamed on drug gangs and has occurred in the capital of Kingston and two rural parishes.
