Regional trade in auto components in the Middle East is currently undergoing a period of considerable growth with the trade and commerce hub of Dubai right at the heart of it.
UAE, Saudi Arabia dominate regional aftermarket trade
Strong interest seen from global auto parts suppliers in Automechanika Dubai 2013
According to research firm Frost & Sullivan, official knowledge partner for Automechanika Dubai, auto components consumption across all vehicle categories in the GCC was estimated at US $8.85 billion in 2012 and is set to surge to as much as US $14.4 billion by 2016. This continued growth is one of the factors driving interest in Automechanika Dubai from global auto component and accessories manufacturers and suppliers, says organiser, Epoc Messe Frankfurt.
The aftermarket trade is dominated by passenger vehicles, which according to Frost & Sullivan composed 85% of the auto components market in the GCC in 2012 – worth as much as
US $7.55 billion. Components consumption for passenger vehicles in the GCC is expected to cross US $12.3 billion by 2013, underlining the vast potential that exists.
“The upkeep and maintenance of cars the world over is big business and this is no different across the GCC,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “The region’s climate means that batteries, tyres and other such components need to be replaced regularly, which keeps the industry busy. Automechanika Dubai trains the focus of leading international players onto the region’s vast potential and enables components manufacturers and suppliers key access to buyers from around the Middle East.”
Research also indicates that UAE and Saudi Arabia form the largest auto component markets in the GCC, making up as much as 78% in total. Kuwait follows in third place. The UAE is also the largest re-export market in the GCC region, reshipping about 60% of its auto components exports to onward destinations in the Middle East and Africa.
