Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business Administration team was selected as the winner of the 8th Annual Investment Research Challenge, held on February 25 at Thomson Reuters in Times Square. As a result, the team closed the NASDAQ Stock Market on March 1 and will compete in the 4th Annual Global Investment Research Challenge.

The team said: “It has been a rewarding journey made possible through the dedication and complementary strengths of our team. The guidance provided by our faculty advisor [John Hunter] and team mentor [Tom Galvin], as well as the support from the Fordham community, has enriched our experience. Our accomplishment is also a testament to the Jesuit tradition of education. As participants in the NYSSA Investment Research Challenge,

we were given the opportunity to utilize the tools and methodologies involved in performing equity research. More importantly, the experience has enabled us to serve the academic community and further elevate Fordham University’s prominence in business education.

Our team enthusiastically looks forward to the next level of the competition in Hong Kong, and we are honored to also represent NYSSA and other universities which participated in the Investment Research Challenge.”

Thomas Messineo (captain), Alex Ng, Jonathan Ball, and Ravi Misra led Fordham to the title. They were followed by Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick in second place, Cornell University’s Johnson School in third place, and Stony Brook University in fourth place.

“The passion of the students in their relentless effort to uncover unique, proprietary research and present their findings in an articulate, insightful, confident and comprehensive manner was outstanding. The commitment to excellence was clearly evident in the student's incredible attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile in order to surpass efforts from a very talented group of competitors,” said Tom Galvin, Fordham’s student team mentor.

The Fordham team will now advance to the Global Investment Research Challenge to face teams from Asia-Pacific, Europe, and other North American teams on April 17 in Hong Kong.

Gold sponsors for the Investment Research Challenge are EDGAR Online and Thomson Reuters. EDGAR Online (NASDAQ: EDGR), supplied students with access to its award winning I-Metrix product, a suite of interactive XBRL data applications and analytical tools that facilitate research.
Thomson Reuters (NYSE: TRI), hosted the panel presentations on February 25. Credit Suisse is a silver sponsor.
