Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that its board of directors has elected David T. Seaton to the newly created position of chief operating officer. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alan Boeckmann said the move is a key element of Fluor’s ongoing strategy to position and utilize key executives where they can most effectively enhance client engagement, and continue to

focus on operational excellence.

Boeckmann said that Seaton’s election elevates an executive with a strong record of growing businesses along with significant accomplishments in project operations and in leading cost improvement and sales and marketing programs across the entire company.

“I have had the good fortune of working closely with David throughout his nearly 25-year career,” said Boeckmann. “Over this time, he has exhibited exceptional business judgment and skill, has consistently met objectives and personally reflects the very essence of Fluor’s corporate values and culture.”

Boeckmann said that all five of the company’s operating business groups will report to Seaton along with Project Operations, a unit formed earlier this year to bring greater efficiency and support to the company’s projects. Boeckmann also said that his direct reports will be reduced to four and will include in addition to Seaton: D. Michael Steuert, chief financial officer; Carlos Hernandez, chief legal officer and corporate secretary; and Glenn Gilkey, senior vice president, human resources and administration. Boeckmann added that this alignment will allow him to concentrate on addressing client needs and the development of new business.

Seaton joined Fluor in 1984. He most recently served as senior group president with responsibility for the company’s Energy & Chemicals, Power, and Government groups as well as for Fluor’s activities in China and the Middle East. Prior to that position, he served as group president, Energy & Chemicals, and has held various sales and operations roles in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. He also served as managing director of Fluor Arabia Ltd. and led the company’s global sales function.

Seaton is a board member of The Mosaic Company, Fluor Arabia Ltd., and the Fluor Foundation, the company’s philanthropic organization. He is also a board member of the American Petroleum Institute and the U.S.–Saudi Arabian Business Council.

Seaton holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and has completed advanced management programs at the Wharton School of Business and Thunderbird University.
