A federal judge has granted class action status to a lawsuit filed by St. Petersburg, Florida residents who claim Raytheon Corp. polluted their neighborhood with industrial waste, lowering their property values. More than 1,000 property owners in St. Petersburg's Azalea neighborhood are eligible to join the Raytheon class action lawsuit.

Parker Waichman Alonso LLP, a national law firm with an office in Bonita Springs, is currently offering free case evaluations to anyone whose property values were diminished because of pollution from the Raytheon defense plant.

The Raytheon class action lawsuit alleges that for decades Raytheon and its predecessors knew their operations and waste management practices at the now-vacant St. Petersburg plant were environmentally unsound. It further alleges that Raytheon engaged in a

concerted effort to misrepresent and withhold information from the public regarding the extent of the contamination. The lawsuit seeks damages on behalf of the class for diminished property values.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Virginia Hernandez Covington allowing the case against Raytheon to go forward as a class-action suit means it will be easier and less expensive for plaintiffs to pursue their claims.
