NEW YORK, Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Financial Times announces the appointment of Chrystia Freeland as US Managing Editor. Currently Deputy Editor of the Financial Times, Chrystia Freeland, 37, will succeed Lionel Barber, who was appointed Financial Times Editor earlier this month. Ms. Freeland will move to New York in the New Year and be responsible for the FT's US
edition in print and online.
Lionel Barber commented, "Chrystia is an outstanding journalist and her talent, energy and drive will take our US edition from strength to strength and enhance its position as the newspaper in the US for opinion formers with an interest in global business issues."
A Canadian national, Ms. Freeland has held a number of senior positions at the Financial Times, including Weekend FT Editor, and Editor of
FT.com.
She was also Deputy Editor of The Globe & Mail, Toronto, and from 1994 to 1999 she worked at the FT as UK News Editor, Moscow Bureau Chief and Eastern Europe Correspondent.
Ms. Freeland is a Rhodes Scholar and a graduate of Harvard University. At Oxford, she studied at St. Antony's College.
She is the author of 'Sale of the Century', covering Russia's journey from communism to capitalism. Her profile of Mikhail Khodorkovsky for the FT Magazine won the prize for the Best Energy Submission at the Business Journalist of the Year awards for 2004. In 2005, the World Economic Forum named Ms. Freeland a 'Young Leader of Tomorrow' at their 2005 gathering in Davos.
