2013-01-21 13:19:15 - LONDON, UK This January, East London photo gallery theprintspace will open its doors to Katako “From Urban Decay to Scrap-Art” offering a rare glimpse at art by consequence through the photography of Hugh Ardoin.

-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-

EXHIBITION

Hugh Ardoin - Katako “From Urban Decay to Scrap-Art”

24 January – 13 February 2013

Private View: Thursday, 24 January 2013, 7:00-9:30pm

theprintspace, 74 Kingsland Road, London E2 8DL

Hugh Ardoin’s unconventional approach to capturing and printing work is inspired by his desire to challenge established traditions of the perception and promotion of Art. Dissecting his own experiences through the use of a camera, Hugh Ardoin is able to shed light on post-industrial wastelands, thus referencing the past, present and future that society is unwilling to face. By romanticising these landfills through his compositions, the photographs become poetry and documentary at the same time, almost to

a degree where they ‘blur every conventional reference’.

Katako was inspired by Hugh Ardoin’s own journey on the metaphorical ‘yellow brick road’, that so many of the people he met in Africa try to join by making use of the useless and trading ‘any conceivable piece of what we would consider refuse’.

Educated during the golden years of film photography, Hugh Ardoin is marking his return with his debut exhibition Katako, following a career in the Legal Advisory business.

Katako will open on 24th January at 7:00-9:30pm for its private view at theprintspace gallery, 74 Kingsland Road, E2 8DL and continue for a 3-week period from 25 January up until 13 February. Artist will be present. Drinks provided. Admission Free.
