2014-01-16 00:10:20 - Desktop License Server, Web License Server and Cloud License Server are new self-hosted activation and licensing servers for Linux or Windows websites. These servers automate licensing for protected digital products including applications, libraries, plugins, ebooks, videos, PDFs, spreadsheets or games.
Excel Software today announced three self-hosted License Server products, Desktop License Server, Web License Server and Cloud License Server. These servers provide a cost effective license activation and management solution for any company that sells digital products including applications, libraries, plugins, ebooks, videos, PDFs, spreadsheets or games.
Each server product consists of an executable and data files that can be placed on a Linux or Windows web server and an Admin application that is installed on a Mac or Windows computer. The Admin application is used to configure licenses, generate serial numbers and manage customer records on the online server.
Desktop License Server supports software or documents used on Mac, Windows or Android OS protected with QuickLicense, AppProtect or DocProtect.
The server automates the activation process of a protected product by collecting a Serial Number and other customer data in an Activation dialog. The server supports Trial, Product, Subscription, Floating and Dynamic licenses with advanced features like license release, restore, reset, suspend and remote feature enable.
The Excel Software suite of protection and licensing tools has been enhanced to support Desktop License Server. Those tools include QuickLicense, AppProtect, DocProtect, OfficeProtect, QLRT Xcode, AirLicense, Android License SDK and plugins for FileMaker and Xojo.
Web License Server can present web content on specific devices with Serial Number activation using the free SafeWebApp viewer. Vendors can distribute training guides, educational videos, maintenance manuals or paid content in a secure, controlled manner across the Internet.
Web License Server and the free SafeWebApp viewer present attractive business opportunities for content developers. Publishers control their own marketplace, eliminate the time consuming submission effort of an app store, process their own orders, retain all revenue and customer data plus enhance the capabilities for customer support, interaction, subscriptions and additional sales.
Cloud License Server provides cloud centric license management for software running on any device or computer. It implements the Cloud License API that consists of a small set of URL commands to activate, validate, release, restore and reset a software license. All license information is stored on the web server making this a good solution for phone, tablet, notebook or desktop software with Internet access. Supported license types include Product, Time-Limited, Execution-Limited, Date-Limited, Floating and Subscription Licenses. Once activated, a license can be released, restored, reset or suspended. Additional features in the activated application can be remotely enabled.
Desktop, Web and Cloud License Server are each available as a complete, scaleable, in-house solution starting at $695 with Demo editions available. Each Server product includes a User Guide with step-by-step tutorial and online demonstration video. With some hosting companies offering a VPS website for under $20/year, it is now easy for a company of any size to host their own license server to protect and manage the digital products they sell on any platform.
