STOCKHOLM (AP) - European Union Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso says a new international agreement to fight global warming will be the most important task during Sweden's six-month EU presidency.
Barroso told Swedish Radio Wednesday that ideally a binding agreement for developed countries and financing for developing countries to curb greenhouse gas emissions would be agreed upon at December's climate conference in Copenhagen.
The U.N. conference aims to reach a new global deal replacing the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

Barroso says that resolving the ongoing financial crisis will also be among Sweden's priorities.
Sweden is taking over the rotating EU presidency from the Czech Republic.
