BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Commission and the European Central Bank say Slovakia has the green light to adopt the euro next year.
The European Commission says it will ask EU finance ministers and EU leaders to approve Slovak membership in June and July.
Wednesday's decision clears the way for the country to become the 16th euro nation on Jan. 1 2009.
The European Central Bank warned Slovakia of «considerable concerns» that inflation may rise more than the euro average in the future due to tight labor market restrictions and surging energy prices.
