Britain’s late Princess Diana was a great cook before she married Prince Charles, her brother has revealed.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:26 pm

Earl Spencer - who famously gave a moving speech at his sister’s funeral in 1997 - says Diana was quite a star in the kitchen during her teenage years.
He said: ‘She didn’t do much cooking after marriage but she was very good. Her triumph as a teenager was her meatloaf.’ Diana, who admitted to suffering from bulimia, was formally divorced from Charles in July 1996.
Meanwhile, the selection of the jury for the inquest into Diana’s death begins today (27.09.07).
Up to 200 potential jurors have been summoned to London’s Royal Courts of Justice to be asked questions by the coroner to determine whether they have any prejudices or connections which could rule them out of the case.
The inquest starts next Tuesday (02.10.07) and could last up to six months.
Diana was killed in a Paris car crash in August 1997 along with lover Dodi Fayed and chauffeur Henri Paul.
Many, including Dodi’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, claim they were murdered by the British establishment in a plot engineered by Charles’ father Prince Philip.
The original report into the crash by Lord Stephens ruled the crashed was caused by Paul being drunk and driving too fast.

She then took a trip to the remote areas of Kisumu Rural constituency so see several grandmothers who take care of AIDS orphans after their parents have succumbed to the fatal illness.

The Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya, Elisabeth Jacobsen, said the residents would play a key role in the success of the programme.
She said: ‘We call upon the well-to-do families to contribute to the programme to cater for the orphans and extremely vulnerable children.’ Sonja was accompanied on her trip by a delegation of Norway’s national committee preparing for a major fundraiser for orphans and vulnerable children from across the world.

Chelsy Davy, the girlfriend of Britain’s Prince Harry, has moved into student accommodation costing £55 a week.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

The 21-year-old Zimbabwean - who enrolled at Leeds University earlier this month - is living in a run-down house with three pals, a far cry from the luxurious Cape Town villa she used to reside in.
It was originally thought Chelsy, whose father Charles is a millionaire Safari operator, would splash out on a top-of-the-range riverside apartment for the duration of her two-year law degree.
Instead she has opted for the red-brick terraced house in the city’s run-down Hyde Park area, where a nearby property was recently swooped by police over fears it was a bomb factory.
A road named as ‘Britain’s Most Burgled Street’ is also just a five-minute walk away.
The blonde beauty decided to move to Britain so she could see more of 23-year-old Harry.
A source close to the couple - who have managed to keep their long distance relationship going for over three years - said of the move: ‘This is make or break time.
‘Harry has been trying to persuade her to move to England now for more than two years.
‘He is very excited and this is the end of a very long wait for him.’ Chelsy’s father recently revealed he would pay for his daughter to have security guards because she does not qualify for royal protection.

Britain’s Prince Charles has pulled out of charity film screening over fears the controversial topic has made it to risky for him to attend.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

The prince and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, have been advised not to attend the scheduled premiere of ‘Brick Lane’ - which had been picked for this year’s Royal Film Performance - on October 29 because there was concern the London gala would be a target of protest.
The film, based on Monica Ali’s critically-acclaimed novel, caused outrage within the Bangladeshi community, who claimed they had been portrayed as uneducated and unsophisticated.
The screening has now been dropped, making it the first time in 49 years there has not been a Royal Film Performance.
Charles’ official London household, Clarence House, claim the royal couple pulled out of the event because of scheduling conflicts, but admitted the security risk was also a factor.
A Clarence House spokesman told Britain’s The Times newspaper: ‘There has been quite a lot of controversy about that film which everyone was aware of. The appropriateness of the film chosen is important, but so is the date. ‘It is a mixture of both reasons. At the start, it had been one of a number of films proposed. None of the films and none of the dates worked.’ Peter Hore, Chief Executive of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, which helps pick the film for the royal performance, defended their choice of movie.
He said: ‘We thought ‘Brick Lane’ was a beautiful film and one of the best independent British productions of the season. But for whatever reason, it doesn’t work in the royal diary.’ ‘Brick Lane’ will now premiere at the London Film Festival on October 26.

The former King of Bulgaria was allegedly a spy for the KGB.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

Simeon Saxe-Coburg - who returned to Bulgaria in 1996 after 50 years of Communist-imposed exile - was recruited for the Soviet secret services while living in Spain, according to Bulgarian politician Yane Yanev.
Yanev, the leader of Bulgaria’s opposition party Order, Rule of Law and Justice, said: ‘There are undisputed facts and documents proving that Simeon, the ex-king, was noticed by the Soviet KGB in the early 60s and was later offered money to pay his gambling debts in exchange for his collaboration with the service.’ Simeon - who was prime minister for four years after forming his own political party, National Movement Simeon II, and winning a landslide victory in the 2001 elections - has rejected the accusations.
The former royal, who is now leader of the NSDV party, claims he is being targeted by a smear campaign designed to discredit him in the run-up to upcoming local elections.
He said: ‘I have become used to being a target for undeserved offences and slander, but I did not expect some people to fall so low and to become authors of such an infamous campaign.’ The documents that allegedly prove Simeon was working for the KGB were located in the archive of the Bulgarian Agrarian People’s Union.
Bulgarian officials have identified 139 former collaborator and informants after searching through the country’s Communist-era file.
The current president Georgi Parvanov has already been denounced as one of those identified.
Among those fingered include 19 serving politicians, who worked as informants for Russia’s Soviet-era secret service in Bulgaria until 1989.
Simeon became Tsar of Bulgaria in 1943 aged just six, but was deposed following an invasion by the Soviet army in 1944.
The Bulgarian royal family was finally exiled in 1946.

Britain’s Zara Phillips has complained conditions will be too hot when she attempts to win equestrian gold at next year’s Beijing Olympics.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

The 26-year-old royal will have to compete in sweltering heat at the games and has hit out at the International Olympic Committee for their choice of host country.
She told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper: ‘Why do they pick these places? It’s the same for the athletes as well. I mean why do they do it? ‘The hottest, most humid conditions I have competed in was Italy for the European Championships a few weeks ago.
‘We don’t get that heat or humidity in Europe.’ The Olympic horse-riding events are being staged in Hong Kong rather than Beijing because it does not suffer as badly from air pollution.
However, the heat and humidity will still be so stifling that Zara’s horse Toytown must be provided with a special air conditioned stable.
Zara will follow in the footsteps of her mother, Princess Anne, who rode at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
As the reigning individual eventing world champion Zara is strongly fancied to win Olympic gold.
She will also have the chance for a double victory as part of Britain’s eventing team at the games.
The team recently picked up silver at the European Championships in Italy, but Zara failed to retain her individual title when Toytown refused a jump on her final run.
Britain’s equestrian team will not be officially named until next year.

Kate Middleton, the girlfriend of Britain’s Prince William, has told friends she is terrified of becoming queen.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:11 pm

The 25-year-old fashion buyer - who rekindled her four-year romance with the prince in July after a brief three-month split - fears her middle-class upbringing won’t meet royal courtiers expectations if she marries William, who is heir to the throne after his father Prince Charles.
One friend told Britain’s News of the World newspaper: ‘Kate has just woken up to what the next few years could have in store. She is suddenly realising the enormity of what could lie ahead if she walks down the aisle with William. It’s one thing having an on/off relationship with the prince, it’s quite another thing becoming queen.
‘Kate is concerned those before her who have married into the royal family have come from an aristocratic background and are from old money. She is just from a very normal middle-class family who have done exceptionally well for themselves. They don’t live on a huge estate or have titles before their names.’ William and Kate’s relationship has gone from strength to strength since their brief split in April, but they have continued to keep a low profile.
The couple - who first met at Scotland’s St. Andrews University four years ago - were conscious not to be seen together at a party at Upton Villa, Oxfordshire, recently.
A source said: ‘They were keeping a discreet distance from each other. By no means were they walking round hand in hand. The less they are seen together, the less pressure is put on them.’ Last month, Kate and William flew separately to the Seychelles for a romantic break, their first holiday without family or friends around them.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth is reportedly struggling so much with staff shortages at London’s Buckingham Palace she may have to look to recruit from overseas.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:11 pm

The monarch is having trouble attracting and retaining butlers and the palace is advertising for employees for the fifth time this year.
Sources claim poor pay and cramped living conditions for servants is putting off many British workers as they can earn much more from private employers.
New recruitment laws mean the queen has to open vacancies to everyone, including new EU nations like Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
A former butler told Britain’s Sunday Express newspaper: ‘For anyone who has just arrived off a coach at London’s Victoria station from Bucharest or Warsaw and wants accommodation it’s a great job.
‘But it’s no surprise there’s a shortage of English people rushing to apply. The pay is rotten and the hours are long and you have to be prepared to move wherever the royal family go to Windsor, in Berkshire, Balmoral in Scotland, or Sandringham, in Norfolk.’ The ex-servant also claimed there was a big hierarchy and nobody was allowed to mix.
He added: ‘There’s a strict hierarchy, with separate dining rooms for different levels of staff, so the footmen and maids don’t mix with the administrators.’

Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary loved going incognito on a recent trip to New York.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:11 pm

The princess - who last week spent four days in New York with husband Prince Frederik to promote Danish industry - says she revelled in the chance to wander the streets of a city where she is relatively unknown without being noticed.
Mary, 35, took the opportunity to go for early-morning strolls with the couple’s five-month-old daughter Isabella.
Speaking at a press conference in New York on Friday (21.09.07) she said: ‘I’ve had a bit of time to go walking around in SoHo and Central Park in the morning very early with a very early baby up and awake.’ The royal couple’s efforts promoting design and innovation for their country’s Creative Nation project meant the Australian-born princess did not have any time to enjoy her favourite pastime, shopping.
She said: ‘There has been a lot of eyes plastered to the car windows seeing the shops go by. It would be nice to be able to experience the liveliness and the dynamic city that New York City is a bit more. ‘But on this trip we haven’t had that opportunity.’ The trip was Mary and Frederik’s first trip abroad without their 23-month-old son Christian, who remained at home with his grandparents, Mary’s father John Donaldson and his wife Susan.
Mary - who arrived home with Frederik on Saturday (22.09.07) - admitted they had both been missing their son.
She said: ‘We’re very excited to be going home to see Christian. We’ve been speaking to him on the phone. Well, as much as you can with a two a two-year-old!’ Earlier in the week, Mary admitted she and Frederik would like more children, but would not say how many.

The prince visited Northumberland’s Alnwick Garden - the only public plot in Britain licensed by the government to grow the Class C drug - on Saturday (22.09.07).
He was invited to inaugurate the second phase of the £35 million horticultural development and given a guided tour by the Duchess of Northumberland, who helped establish the project.
During his trip, the prince toured the Poison Garden section where dangerous and illegal plants, such as cannabis and coca leaves, used to make cocaine, are grown.
Charles made a joke about who wore the trousers in his relationship with wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, while he was being show round the garden by 18-year-old Aaron Oliver.

A collection of jewellery once owned by Britain’s Duchess of Windsor is set to fetch $3 million at auction.

Fashion designer Calvin Klein bought the jewels for ex-wife Kelly Klein in 1987, a year after Wallis Simpson - the American wife of Britain’s Prince Edward - died.
Calvin paid just $200,000 for the jewels - including a single-strand natural pearl and diamond necklace, a massive pearl pendant and a famous pair of Noir et Blanc pearl earrings - which Edward purchased for his beloved wife.
Photographer Kelly has decided to keep the duchess’ diamond eternity band with the word ‘Eternity’ inscribed inside.
A source told the New York Post: ‘Calvin bought it all for Kelly before the launch of the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume, which was the biggest fragrance launch ever.’ The sale is expected to take place at New York auction house Sotheby’s within the next view weeks.
A representative for the Kleins declined comment.

Sweden’s Royal Family have been awarded a pay rise.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:26 pm

The country’s finance minister, Anders Borg, announced the family will receive an extra 10.6 million kronor (£800,000) a year.
Borg says the extra money is being granted to cover improved security at Stockholm’s Royal Palace and the expected increase in the cost of Crown Princess Victoria’s official duties.
The rise means the royals will receive 110 million kronor (£8.3 million) next year.
The annual sum is intended to cover the costs of the king’s official duties as head of state and to pay for the upkeep of the royal family. It also covers running costs for the royal palaces, although maintenance of the fabric of the buildings is covered by other government grants.
Marshal of the Realm, Ingemar Eliasson - the operational head of the royal household - said: ‘The budget increase is very welcome after several years of severely curtailed grants.’ However, Gudren Schyman, a leading member of the Swedish Republican Association, said the royals should not get any money from the government.
She said: ‘The royal family no longer has a role to play. It does not belong in a modern democracy and it should therefore be natural for them to sort out their own finances.’

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:26 pm

The redheaded pair, who were wearing very similar long black Dolce and Gabbana dresses and Manolo Blahnik shoes, strutted their stuff in Naomi Campbell’s Fashion For Relief show, in aid of the Rotary Flood Disaster Appeal.
Sarah, 47, and Beatrice, 19, walked hand in hand down the runway, wearing almost £8 million worth of Garrard diamonds, in the British Fashion Council’s tent in the grounds of London’s Natural History Museum.
Beatrice revealed the prospect of appearing in front of her boyfriend David Clark and the celebrities in the audience, including Kate Moss, Elle Macpherson, and Claudia Schiffer, was less daunting because her mother was by her side.
The princess said: ‘I’ve never done anything like this before. My boyfriend is going to be watching, but I’m walking down there with my mother which makes me feel a lot better. And it’s all for charity.’ After the event, the princess hit renowned nightclub Ciprani with her mum, before the pair moved onto hotspot Mahiki.
The Rotary Flood Disaster Appeal is raising funds to help the areas severely hit by the heavy rain in June, including Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the Midlands.

Britain’s Prince Harry’s relationship with long-term girlfriend Chelsy Davy is said to be on the rocks after a series of bust-ups.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:34 pm

The Zimbabwe-born blonde allegedly feels like the prince has neglected her since she arrived in the UK from South Africa last week.
Things are said to have come to a head when Harry pulled out of the couple’s date on Friday (14.09.07), which would have been their last private rendezvous before Chelsy leaves London to begin university in Leeds.
One source told Britain’s People newspaper: ‘Things started badly and have got worse.
‘One night last week she had to go out clubbing with Harry’s best mate Guy Pelly because he said he couldn’t see her.
‘She feels he has failed to show her anywhere near enough attention since she arrived in London from South Africa.
‘She had been looking forward to seeing him so much and is completely rocked by it.
‘She loves him and calls him her Big Ginger - but he hasn’t exactly been the most attentive of boyfriends.’ Chelsy, 21, was also reportedly furious when Harry branded her plans to get a tattoo tacky.
However, the couple appeared to have put their troubles to one side as they celebrated Harry’s 23rd birthday on Saturday (15.09.07).
The prince - who was joined by his brother Prince William and his girlfriend Kate Middleton - held his birthday bash at the Vine Tree Pub near royal Gloucestershire residence Highgrove.
The princes reportedly got so drunk they began throwing cake at one another, with Harry also donning a policeman’s cap.
The birthday boy then gave a heartfelt speech declaring his love for Chelsy.
A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: ‘He gave a speech on her move to the UK and said it was the best birthday present he could get.’
