Britain’s Prince Philip has started a gruelling exercise regime after doctors told him he needed to work off his daily fried breakfast.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:08 pm

However, the Duke of Edinburgh, 86, refused to listen to doctors’ orders for him to do gentle stretches and walking, and instead insists on completing 50 press-ups or sit-ups every morning before eating the fried breakfast comprising eggs, sausages, bacon and black pudding.
A source close to the prince said: ‘His enthusiasm has taken everybody by surprise. The duke always dismissed health fads. He believed walking around Edinburgh’s Balmoral Castle or shooting at Norfolk’s Sandringham House was enough to keep him fit. But he finds the new regime rejuvenating. “It reminds him how he enjoyed the tough Royal Navy training when he was in his prime. Those close to him are delighted because they know when Philip is asked to do something he often ignores it or does the opposite.” The prince isn’t the only person benefitting from the new fitness regime – his wife, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, is reportedly very pleased at the change in the prince’s personality.
The source added: “Prince Philip is the only senior royal who religiously demands a daily fry-up. The Queen was becoming concerned at the possible toll on his health. The exercise has not only made him fitter - he is also far less grumpy.”

Britain’s Prince William showed his generous side yesterday (24.02.08) when he secured ticket to the Carling Cup Final for his injured Army friend.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:08 pm

The 25-year-old was so determined to cheer up Lance Cpl Martyn Compton - who suffered 70 per cent burns when a bomb blew up his armoured vehicle in Afghanistan last year - he pulled some strings to get him and his fiancée Michelle Clifford tickets to the football game between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at London’s Wembley Stadium.
A source close to the prince said: “Prince William was very upset when he learned of Martyn’s injuries and knows he is a massive Spurs fan so he made some enquiries with the club and managed to get a couple of tickets.” Lance Cpl Compton served in D Squadron of the Household Cavalry at Windsor with Princes William and Harry when they were all based at Windsor.
When the explosion occurred in August last year, Compton lost his ears and nose, and nearly died after his heart stopped three times. His comrades and army pals were stunned when he was only awarded £100,000 compensation. Anyone wishing to donate money to the fund for injured soldiers should make a cheque payable to Household Cavalry Central Charitable Fund and send it to D Squadron Leader, Household Cavalry Regiment, Combermere Barracks, Windsor, SL4 3DN.

Japan’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko may cut back their schedules due to health problems.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:08 pm

The royal couple are considering the move following news Akihito is in danger of developing bone disease osteoporosis due to treatment he underwent for prostate cancer.
The pair’s son Prince Naruhito called on them to spend more time resting during a press conference to mark his 48th birthday on Saturday (23.02.08).
He said: “I think it is necessary for those around them to consider making more time for them to rest and take it easy.” A health check last month showed no recurrence of the cancer for which 74-year-old Akihito underwent surgery five years ago.
However, tests did show his bone density has dropped as a result of hormones he took to battle the cancer, meaning that he is in danger of developing osteoporosis without medical intervention.
Michiko, 73, has suffered bouts of dizziness and intestinal bleeding, but medical examinations have not pinpointed any serious medical problems.
Both Akihito and Michiko are reportedly being encouraged to go on a diet and exercise regime to improve their health.

Britain’s Prince William has reportedly told girlfriend Kate Middleton he wants to put their relationship on hold while he concentrates on his career.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:08 pm

The future king wants to put all his energy into his military training so has told his lover they will have very little contact over the next 12 months.
A source said: ‘Kate has been playing second fiddle since the start of the year spending very little time with William. It’s almost a case of, ‘Don’t call me, I’ll call you’. ‘At the moment the only chance she gets to see him is at weekends when he returns from RAF training. ‘William has told her in no uncertain terms he wants to prioritise his duties and throw himself into the role.’ Sources claim once William has completed his training he will finally propose to Kate.
However, sources claim she is slightly worried he may be trying to cool the relationship down.
A friend added to Britain’s News of the World newspaper: ‘Kate is prepared to wait for William — there is no question of that. But she’s concerned he’s trying to loosen the relationship. ‘She knows it’s a risk but feels she can only accept his ‘pact’. Kate loves him and hopes he will finally realise she’s the one. ‘He wants to excel at his military career but she doesn’t want it to be at the expense of their relationship. After all she has put five years hard work into it and taking the pressure that comes with being his girlfriend.’ In June, William joins the Royal Navy on a stint which may take him abroad for up to several weeks. From 2009 he begins intensive training on his royal duties including a stint at the Foreign Office. Our source said: ‘William has told Kate if they can survive this long stint apart then he’ll propose to her. The pressure will then be on to get married from next year.’ Last April, the couple split after four years together but had soon rekindled their romance after realising they couldn’t be apart.

Britain’s Princess Diana’s former butler allegedly had several secret gay affairs behind his wife’s back.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:08 pm

Paul Burrell – who worked for the princess for 10 years before her death in 1997 – used to trawl homosexual clubs on the lookout for guys and was forever cheating on loyal wife Maria, it has been claimed.
A source told Britian’s News of the World newspaper: “Paul is a greedy liar, a devious snake. He’s also ruthless and selfish. He’s always made out he’s this happily-married family man when in reality he’s gay and only interested in sex with men.
“He told me he hadn’t slept with Maria for years. He’s constantly on the lookout for gay pick-ups all over the world.” Burrell – who recently admitted to lying under oath at Diana’s inquest – also reportedly used his association with the princess as a way to woo men.
The source added: “He shamelessly uses his back catalogue of Diana stories to hook targets. He tells them all sorts about her to get them into bed. He will brag about his wealth and royal connections. There are plenty of them who fall for it.” Burrell could face up to ten years in prison after boasting he failed to tell the whole truth during his testimonial at the princess’ inquest at London’s High Court.
He was caught on a secret videotape saying: “Of course I didn’t tell them everything I know. I also threw in a couple of red herrings.”

Britain’s Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has been shocked by revelations his mother may have been born illegitimately.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:24 pm

The validity of the marriage between the duke’s grandparents has been brought into question after notes from a 1955 British government cabinet meeting detailing the revelation, which was initially covered-up, were released.
The documents concern the government’s discussion over a court case involving Prince Ernest of Hanover, a distant German cousin of Prince Philip and his now wife Queen Elizabeth, who wanted British citizenship.
During the case it emerged Philip’s grandmother Britain’s Princess Victoria and her German fiancé Prince Louis of Battenberg had not sought royal approval for their 1884 marriage from the ruling monarch, who at that time was Queen Victoria.
Under the British Royal Marriages Act of 1772 this meant the union was legally void, rendering their daughter Princess Alice illegitimate.
Minutes of the meeting, which were later censored, document the then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill telling ministers: ‘This does not affect the Duke of Edinburgh, but his mother.’ The minutes then note Home Secretary Gwilym Lloyd George’s fears.
He said: ‘Doubt will be cast on validity of the marriage of Prince Philip’s grandparents Prince Louis of Battenberg (who later changed his family name to Mountbatten) and Princess Victoria, a favourite grandchild of Queen Victoria.’ The notes were taken by Sir Norman Brook, the cabinet secretary, and have now been published on the UK’s National Archives website.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has sent an apology to a six-year-old girl after she was bitten by one of her swans.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:24 pm

Elishia Stevenson was walking in Cornwall’s Coronation Park, in Helston, with her mother, father and grandparents when the vicious bird bit her on the finger.
Rachael Stevenson told her daughter the swan was technically owned by the queen as they were in a royal park and Elishia decided to write to the monarch about the ‘naughty’ bird.
Rachael said: ‘Elishia came back in tears. There were about six swans she was feeding and one just pecked out. ‘I think she was a bit shocked, but once she calmed down she asked me who owned the swans because she wanted to ask them to tell the swans off for being naughty. I told her the queen looked after them and she announced she wanted to send the letter. ‘To be quite honest we posted it to keep her happy and we told her that people would tell the queen. ‘In the letter, she said the swans had been naughty and that she was very upset with them. We were under no illusion that we would get a reply. We addressed it to The Queen, Buckingham Palace and that was it.’ However, the queen was so touched by the six-year-old’s letter that she sent an official letter of apology in return, which is now displayed on Elishia’s bedroom wall.
The letter read: ‘The queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter which you have sent to Her Majesty. The queen thought it kind of you to write to her and was sorry to hear about the swan.’ Rachael added: ‘I hope this story brings a smile to others.’

Former Dutch Prime Minister Joop den Uyl saved the country’s monarchy from falling apart in 1976, it has been revealed.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:24 pm

A new biography by author Anet Bleich claims the Labour politician covered up a bribery scandal involving Dutch Prince Bernhard to enable Queen Juliana to stay on the throne.
Documents proving Prince Bernhard, who was also accused of accepting bribes of £1.1 million in the Lockheed affair in the 70s, was involved in a similar scandal with plane builder Northrop were allegedly kept under wraps by Uyl.
Dutch newspaper Volkskrant reports the book alleges his decision to keep the scandal a secret meant Bernhard was kept out of jail and Queen Juliana remained the country’s monarch.
If the documents had been made public, Bleich claims it could have been the end of the monarchy, as Beatrix, who is now the reigning queen, would reportedly refuse to take the throne in those circumstances.
Beatrix has been described as ‘quite desperate’ about her position during the Lockheed affair - which involved a series of bribes and contributions made by US aerospace company Lockheed between the late 50s and 70s regarding the sale of aircraft.
Dutch Minister of Finance Wim Duisenberg who visited her during the investigations said: ‘I found her quite desperate. She had the idea that this opened a sewer of which the stench was unbearable. She was the future queen, but started to doubt whether she should do that, and that would have caused a major crisis in the Netherland.’ While the scandal - which caused political controversy in West Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Japan - was never bought to court, it did have consequences for Prince Bernhard, who was forced to resign from all his military functions.
A second scandal would have meant an official lawsuit, and would have doubtless led to the prince going to jail.

Britain’s Zara Phillips will embark on a four-day road trip to Portugal today (22.02.08).

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:24 pm

The 26-year-old royal is travelling to Barocca d’Alva with her horse Toytown and groom Kelly Davies to compete in an international equestrian meeting but has insisted on doing most of the driving for the long journey.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper: ‘Zara said she thought it would be fun to drive down to Portugal, so she has volunteered to be behind the wheel most of the way.
‘It’s not that unusual for her - she doesn’t ask for special treatment because she is royalty. She is always happy to get stuck in like everyone else.’ Zara, who is the reigning world three-day eventing champion, explained Toytown can’t wait to get to Portugal for the competition, which is being held on February 27-March 2 and March 5-9.
She said: ‘He gets bored if he stays out too long, so he’s been schooling and galloping and is in really good form.’ The royal, who is dating England rugby player Mike Tindall, is part of the British Olympic equestrian team and hopes to pick up a medal at the Hong Kong games in August.

The photographer accused of causing the crash which killed Britain’s Princess Diana was at home the night she died, her inquest heard yesterday (21.02.08).

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:24 pm

The princess died in a Paris car crash on August 31, 1997, along with driver Henri Paul and lover Dodi Fayed, and James Andanson has been blamed by Dodi’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, for causing the accident.
Al Fayed believes Andanson - who was found dead in 2000 - was the owner of a mystery white Fiat Uno linked to the Pont d’Alma tunnel tragedy.
But giving evidence to the jury at London’s High Court via videolink from France, Andanson’s widow Elisabeth said this was ‘impossible’.
Asked if she could say ‘with confidence’ that her husband was at home on the night Diana died, she replied: ‘Yes, with certainty.’ Jonathan Hough, counsel to the inquest, said: ‘Could he have got out of bed, travelled to Paris, been involved in a crash and travelled back to Lignieres without you noticing?’ She replied: ‘It’s impossible.’ The jury has heard there is evidence suggesting Diana’s Mercedes collided with a white Fiat Uno before it ploughed into the pillar 13 of the tunnel in the early hours of August 31, 1997. They also heard how Andanson sold his white Fiat Uno nine weeks after the Paris tragedy but after being examined by police vehicle was ruled out of inquiries.
In 2000, Andanson’s body was discovered by police in a still-burning car in the Les Louettes forest in Nant, north of Montpellier in southern France.
The body, which was so badly burned that it later disintegrated while being moved, had to be identified by dental records.
The court has heard that police are confident Andanson killed himself.

Britain’s Prince Charles wants to team up with Norway to help save the world’s forests.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:55 am

The Prince of Wales – who is well-known for his environmental campaigns – made his offer to Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, after Norway announced that it aimed to provide about 3 billion crowns (£273 million) per year to prevent deforestation in developing countries.
Charles sent a letter to Stoltenberg suggesting that his Rainforests Project send representatives to Norway to discuss ways to work together.
Stoltenberg said Norway would be glad to receive them and is willing to work with all who want to put systems and regulations in place to halt deforestation.
In the past, Norway has said that commitments to reduce emissions from deforestation in developing nations should be included in a global climate change regime from 2012 and that it will work to develop funding and certification systems to promote the effort.
In April, Stoltenberg announced a goal to make Norway carbon neutral by 2050 by reducing emissions at home and by offsetting Norwegian greenhouse gas emissions by investing in environmental projects in the developing world.

British people want Prince William to become king over his father Prince Charles, a new poll has revealed.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:20 pm

More than half of the 1,000 questioned favoured William taken the throne, even though his father is ahead of him in the pecking order.
William’s girlfriend, Kate Middleton, is also popular with Britons, with 72 per cent saying she would make a good addition to the royal family.
However, Charles’ second wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, didn’t fare so well.
Just 42 per cent regard her as a good ambassador for the royal family and 68 per cent said they preferred the prince’s first wife, the late Princess Diana.
Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: ‘Prince Charles does seem to have a real image problem.
‘Even though he is undoubtedly the best-trained heir to the throne we’ve ever had, the public seem reluctant to accept him as king.
‘The damage to his image caused by the break-down of his marriage to Diana seems irreparable.
‘I think it’s sad; we should be more forgiving as a nation and accept that Charles is a far wiser head on more experienced shoulders than a boy of 25 who still has much to learn and do.’ Overall, three-quarters of Britons said they were in favour of retaining the monarchy, but the same percentage question whether it delivers value for money and want it to use less of taxpayers’ money.

Britain’s late Princess Diana’s tiara has inspired a new skyscraper in the U.S. city Cincinnati.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:34 pm

Architest Gyo Obata was looking for inspiration for the building in Cincinatti – nicknamed ‘Queen City’ - when he came across a picture of the late royal wearing a diamond tiara.
Joe Robertson, project manager for the St. Louis-based architectural firm HOK, said: “Gyo thought ‘That’s perfect. Here we have the crown of the building, and the nickname for the city is Queen City!” Obata’s tiara design will top the 40-storey Great American Insurance Building if it is approved by the city’s Urban Design Review Board – made up of four members including three local architects.
While the board’s opinions are only advisory, they could influence other boards who have the final say on whether or not the building can go ahead.
If everything is approved, construction on the building, which will have around 800,000 sq ft of space with a glass and aluminum façade will start in the spring.
At 660 ft, the building is set to be the city’s tallest skyscraper, as it is 86 ft taller than the Carew Tower, which has been unchallenged for the position since the Great Depression.

Spain’s King Juan Carlos has called for the country to unite against terrorism in his Christmas message.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:34 pm

The king spoke about ETA - Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, an armed Basque nationalist separatist organization – detonating a bomb at Madrid’s Barajas Airport last year, which killed two people and injured a further 26.
He also mentioned ETA’s recent killing of the two Guardia Civil officers in the south of France, which they claim was revenge for Spanish police hunting down ETA militants.
In the speech broadcast on Christmas Eve (24.12.07), he said: “We need a culture of unity against terrorism. “This unity is an urgent objective for the country, the citizens’ will, an obligation for all the democratic parties and a must regarding the victims, whom we remember with our greatest affection these days’. “The countries who attend to the wishes of their citizens with most efficiency are those where the democratic model and institutions are based on solidity and stability, and those who show a wide internal cohesion regarding the larger questions.
Speaking from the Zarzuela Palace, the 69-year-old monarch also asked political parties in Spain to make a bigger effort to support people who are suffering and needy – specifically mentioning the fights against poverty, unemployment and the rising cost of houses.

Letters from Britain’s late Queen Mother complaining that her clothes were too expensive will be auctioned in Exeter next month.

Posted in: Royal News — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:34 pm

In the handwritten letters from over 80 years ago, the Queen Mother wrote to her royal dressmaker and asked her to double check the bill for her clothes.
In one letter she writes: “Would you be very kind and look through my bill before it is sent to me this autumn, as I thought that a few items in the last one were rather too expensive.
“I think it would be a good thing if you would do this as my clothes have cost a terrible lot lately. And I shall have to get some for Australia. Naturally I want to get them from you and it would be most helpful if you could see that they are not too dear. I have got one dress which I cannot wear as it does not fit, so can you make me another?
“Yours sincerely, Elizabeth.”
The letters will be auctioned off along with a robe Queen Elizabeth wore for her 1937 coronation and a brooch clearly displaying the initials ER.
Rachel Littlewood, auction house director for Hampton and Littlewood, said: “This collection shows that despite their wealth she seemed to be concerned in those hard days between the World Wars that she did not want to be over extravagant when the population was struggling.”
