IGGY POP IS RECORD STORE DAY AMBASSADOR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:15 pm

Punk icon IGGY POP is giving a boost to struggling music stores as the newly-appointed ambassador of Record Store Day 2012.
The Stooges star is championing small shops ahead of the celebration on 21 April (12), which is held annually to help independent retail outlets.
Pop, real name James Newell Osterberg, Jr., insists he owes his rock star persona to the time he spent working in a record store as a youngster - and he hopes the shops will one day experience a revival in popularity.
In a statement, he says, "I got my name, my musical education and my personality all from working at a record store during my tender years. In the 50s and 60s the teen kids used to gather after school at these places to listen free to the latest singles and see if they liked the beat. You could buy the disc you liked for 79 cents and if you were lucky meet a chick. Clerks in these places became managers, (like Brian Epstein), label heads, (Jack Holzman) and Faces on album covers (like me).
"Personally I feel best in a store that, while staying small and socially relaxed, still keeps a complete variety of music types and non musical recordings on offer… All of this is cool and has a much bigger future than most people realize today.
"As Record Store Day Ambassador for 2012 I feel like a representative from some exotic jungle full of life and death and sex and anger, called upon to wear a leopard skin and translate joy to the world of the dead."

ROBERTS TO PLAY SEX STORE WORKER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:12 pm

JULIA ROBERTS’ actress niece Emma has signed up for a risque role playing a sex shop employee.

She tells USA Today, "It’s a quirky coming-of-age story. My character is very smart, but the economy is very bad. So she works at a porn store.
"It’s an interesting backdrop because when you’re a young person you’re always looking for inspiration. But then you find yourself asking, ‘How did I end up here?’ It’s very relevant for young people who are asking themselves, ‘What do we do?’" Adult World will be filmed in New York and is scheduled for release later this year (12).

BARRYMORE FELT EXCRUCIATING PAIN SCUBA DIVING IN ALASKA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:12 pm

DREW BARRYMORE felt like she had been stabbed with a knife while scuba diving in the frigid Alaskan waters for her new movie BIG MIRACLE.
In the film, the Charlie’s Angels star plays Rachel Kramer, an environmental activist who launches a worldwide campaign to free a family of whales trapped in the Arctic Circle - and for one scene she had to plunge into the ocean.
Barrymore admits her attempts at authenticity underwater were instantly met with excruciating pain.
During an appearance on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Wednesday (25Jan12), she explained, "The director of this film, Ken Kwapis, he had us in Alaska on this ice flow, we felt like we were working in a snow globe theatre… I got to swim in freezing cold Alaskan waters with harbor seals…
"It felt like knives going into my body. It was insane. They told me the temperature was 34 degrees (Fahrenheit) and I was like, ‘That doesn’t sound so bad.’ Then you get in and you’re like, ‘Ouch.’ I’m very bad at pretending or faking things, I really do want to transport myself and sort of believe in whatever scenario I’m in." But Barrymore insists the experience wasn’t all bad - she was fortunate enough to meet the heroes behind the real-life 1988 rescue operation: "We worked with people and families who have been in Alaska for generations, whose parents were involved in the rescuing of the whales… It was great."
