Young smoker

A four-year-old Taiwan boy has been sent to rehab after becoming addicted to his father’s cigars. The little boy and his nine-year-old brother were taken to a rehabilitation centre in Gaoxiong city after their dad caught them stealing his cigarettes and cigars.
He said: "The answer was what I had expected, but the hardest to accept." The boys admitted stealing and said they did it because they thought their father looked "cool" when he smoked.
The four-year-old admitted he even pleaded with his brother to borrow cigarettes from classmates when they failed to steal any from their father.

Retirement present

An Indian man paid a hitman to kill his father a day before he was set to retire. The man was frustrated that he couldn’t find a job himself, so paid to have his father killed in order to get his government job. The man, from Bihar state had been planning to take his father’s job on the grounds that he had died while still at work. Police officer Naresh Singh, who arrested the man, said: ‘He told us he would have got a government job on compassionate grounds had this murder remained a mystery.’ The victim was a low ranked employee at a local government office.

No stopping

A German nursing home has created a pretend bus stop in a bid to stop Alzheimer’s patients from walking off. The stop - which is outside Dusseldorf’s Benrath Centre - looks exactly the same as the others in the city, except no buses stop there.
The home came up with the idea after many patients escaped and boarded buses in the hope of going home, but got lost and had to be returned by police.
The centre teamed up with local care association, the Old Lions, and went to the Rheinbahn transport network which was happy to provide the bus stop to nowhere.
Old Lions Chairman Franz-Josef Goebel said: ‘It sounds funny, but it helps.’

Pole hunt

Romanian police are hunting for a woman who pole dances on the city’s underground railway to earn money.
The dancer is described as a "well-dressed, attractive, student-like young woman" and performs her routines only when the train is travelling between further apart subway stations in Bucharest.
Her routine starts while she plays Tom Jones’ ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ on a portable CD player while taking off her clothes and dancing around a pole.
She then puts her clothes back on and passes around a container for passengers to show their appreciation for her efforts.
A police spokesman said the woman faced charges and a fine for indecent exposure and public begging if she is caught in the act.

Crocodile river

A crocodile has appeared in a German river.
Two municipal employees in Hildesheim say they saw the reptile and city officials have since called in experts to try to find the animal – which is not native to Germany.
The employees got a five-minute look at the crocodile on a backwater of the Innerste river, before the two-and-a-half foot animal disappeared into the brush.
Hildesheim city spokesman Horst Richter says the employees’ story is being taken seriously as one of them is an avid reptile fan, although it is unclear whether the animal is a crocodile, an alligator or a caiman.

Mummy’s house

A man found a dead body in his new home that had been there for 15 years.
Croatian businessman Tomislav Drazic, 51, discovered the decaying, mummified remains on a sofa in the living room when he moved into the house.
The corpse was identified as 92-year-old Jaga Mihelj who had been dead for 15 years. The dead woman was the grandmother of the man who sold Drazic the house.
The man inherited the house when his mother died, but not visited it and had no idea his grandmother had died there.
Drazic said: “I have been out of the country for a while and bought the property via an agency. I was looking forward to seeing the house for the first time but instead I got the shock of my life.”

Handcuffed escape

A Malaysian drug suspect managed to steal a police car and escape, despite being handcuffed.
The 24-year-old was being taken to court by three police officers when he managed to escape. The officers stopped to use the toilet while on the way to court, but while two of them went to the restroom the suspect overpowered the third and sped away in the police car with his hands still in cuffs.
The suspect avoided a police roadblock, but the car eventually skidded down a slope and crashed into a tree.
Police chief Roslan Bek Ahmad said: “We managed to get the police car back, but he escaped on foot.” The suspect was being tried for a heroin possession charge.

Drugs essay

An Australian teenager caught taking drugs has been punished with an essay by a Judge.
Nicholas Benjamin Siiankoski, 18, was ordered to write a 2,000 word essay on the dangers of using drugs after he pleaded guilty to possessing ecstasy.
Siiankoski was also sentenced to three years probation and 100 hours community service.
Justice George Fryberg ordered Siiankoski to write an essay on the effects of cannabis and ecstasy after the teenager admitted experimenting with other drugs and using cannabis.
The teenager has three months to complete the work.
The judge originally asked for a 3,000 word piece, but Siiankoski’s lawyer said his client received low grades in school and would struggle with the assignment.

Jail sale

A jail is for sale in America.
The Somerset County Jail in Maine is on the market for $200,000.
The 14,000-square-foot building was built in 1897, and due to shut down later this year when a new prison opens in nearby Madison.
Local estate agents believe the building has a host of strong selling points – it is situated in the heart of Skowhegan and has no zoning or permit-use restrictions.
Philip Roy, chairman of the Somerset County commissioners said: "It’s an interesting building. It could be used for many, many things," suggesting turning it into a restaurant, art gallery, gift shop or bus station

Sausage smuggler

A Polish fugitive has been apprehended after he revealed a “fatal weakness for sausages.” Marcin Kuszczak, 28, was wanted on a string of dangerous offences including armed robbery and serious assault, but had evaded police – until he stole a pound of sausages. Kuszczak was wanted by cops in Ilawa, Northern Poland, for a number of years. He had managed to stay below the radar until the fateful day earlier this year when he couldn’t resist the lure of pork and attempted to steal sausages from the local supermarket. A police spokesman said: "He was on file as a seriously dangerous criminal. But he seems to have had a fatal weakness for sausages."

Sword shopping

A man is facing criminal charges after he carried a pirate-style sword through a department store.
Lawrence Jackson, 29, was caught carrying the rusted blade through the flagship Macy’s store in Manhattan, America, and could be charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Police claim Jackson brandished the curved sword while visiting the shop with his girlfriend in May.
Jackson claims he is part of a kickball team who wear pirate-themed costumes and he was carrying the sword on his way to a match.

Hand shake

Two US men tried to break a world record by shaking hands for nine-and-a-half hours.
Kevin Whittaker, 31, and Cory Jens, 30, were hoping to beat the previous record of nine hours – held by two Germans - in San Francisco.
Although officials from The Guinness Book of World Records must still confirm the feat, Whittaker and Jens are confident they now hold the record.
Whittaker said: "I looked up what some of the weakest records were. I’m not going to break the 100-meter dash record, but I thought I could break this record. [But] it’s not that fun, believe me. My shoulder is tired, in fact, it’s extremely painful."

Framed himself

A British man has been banned from posting videos of himself committing crimes online. Andrew Kellett, 23, is being hailed the dumbest criminal in the city of Leeds after he posted videos of him and friends committing crimes online. Videos showing Kellett and accomplices taking class-A drugs, racing cars at high speeds, trespassing and shouting abuse were all posted online. Kellett even filmed himself receiving a suspended sentence for an offence at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.
Kellett was handed another suspended sentence and an order banning him from posting any image or description of unlawful activity on the internet.
Councillor Les Carter said: “Kellett must be in the running to be Leeds’ dumbest criminal, if more criminals were as obliging, the city would be even safer.”

Cake knife

An OAP has been stabbed in a fight over a piece of cake. Niccolo Bruno, 70 was knifed at the food counter in an all you can eat buffet in Northern Italy. Alfredo Mancini, 62, stabbed Bruno with his dinner knife after he took the last piece of cake from the counter. Off-duty officers arrested Mancini as he tried to hobble out of the shop with his walking stick – he now faces charges of bodily harm. Bruno was hospitalised but later released after doctors treated the stab wound.

Man milk

A Chinese man has perfected the art of squirting milk from his eyes.
Zhang Yinming drinks the milk up through his nose before launching it as far as two metres by squirting it out of his eyes. Although it’s unclear what the practical uses of milk squirting eyes are, the feat is impressive, and onlookers in Nanjing city -the capital of Jiangsu Province - said they wouldn’t believe it was possible had they not seen it for themselves. As a finale Yinming blows up two balloons simultaneously - with his ears.

Turkey burglar

A US police officer has busted a turkey for breaking and entering. Cop Paula Hensell was investigating a break-in at a business in Kalamazoo, Michigan when she saw the front window of the business had been shattered. Assuming it was a break-in, Hensell proceeded with caution into the building - hoping to catch the burglars in the act and make an arrest. Instead she found a dead ten-pound wild turkey lying on a table inside. The turkey had apparently flown into the window, causing the damage.

Cat station master

A cat has been appointed ‘super-station-master’ at a Japanese train station. The nine year old female cat, Tama, wears a black cap and sits by the entrance of Kishi Station in western Japan and poses for photos with the tourists. The cat, a symbol of luck in Japan, has become a local celebrity. It has also turned the fortunes of Kishikawa, the once failing train company who operate the station, around. Railway spokeswoman Yoshiko Yamaki said: "She never complains, even though passengers touch her all over the place. She has patience and charisma, she is the perfect station master.” Tama has her own line of memorabilia, including postcards, erasers, notebooks and a book of photos called, ‘Diary of Tama, the Station Master.’

Riding shotgun

As US car dealer is giving away handguns with car purchases. Max Motors in Missouri are offering customers £125 toward either petrol or a handgun with every car sold. So far the handgun option is proving by far the most popular. General Manager at Max Motors, Walter Moore, said: "Down here, we all believe in God, guts and guns." Moore also said he recommends the semi-automatic model to customers, as it “holds more rounds.” An advert for the deal states an approved background check is required of all potential customers.
