R&B legend ETTA JAMES has been hospitalised in Riverside, California after suffering breathing problems.
The terminally ill singer, who is battling leukaemia, spent Christmas in hospital and her longtime manager Lupe De Leon admits the 73 year old is "in pretty bad shape".
Members of her family were hoping doctors could revive her from her sedation on Sunday (25Dec11), so they could briefly celebrate Christmas with her in her hospital room.
Last week (19Dec11), a judge set aside $350,000 (GBP218,750) for the At Last singer’s ongoing medical treatment and ruled James’ husband Artis Mills would remain the conservator of her estate following a legal challenge from her son, Donto James.

ROBERT DE NIRO is a father again at the age of 68 - he and his wife have welcomed a baby girl born via surrogate.
Little Helen Grace is the second child for De Niro and Grace Hightower - they are also parents to 13-year-old son Elliot.
A representative for the Oscar winner confirmed the tot’s birth to People.com on Friday (23Dec11), although further details were unavailable as WENN went to press.
The couple wed in 1997.
The Taxi Driver star has four other children - two grown up children from his first marriage to Diahnne Abbott, and 16-year-old twin boys with his ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, also born via a surrogate mother.

British rapper TINCHY STRYDER has snubbed a big money deal to appear on a U.K. reality show over fears it would damage his musical integrity.
The Number 1 hitmaker was approached by TV executives to appear in the upcoming series of Celebrity Big Brother, but he is proud of himself for rejecting the offer.
He tells Britain’s The Sun, "I asked myself whether people I respect would go on a show and I decided that they wouldn’t.
"I respect myself for making this decision because they offered me a lot of money. Then, when I decided to go back and say no to the show, the money doubled.
"But music is my first thing and I love the people that support me and just know in my heart it wasn’t the right thing to do."

Pregnant pop star UNA HEALY is spending Christmas away from her fiance BEN FODEN as they want to enjoy separate family time before they become parents.
The Saturdays star announced in September (11) that she is expecting her first baby with the England rugby player, who she has been dating since 2008, and Foden proposed to his partner earlier this month (Dec11).
However, despite their commitment to each other, Foden has revealed he will spend Christmas without his Irish fiancee, but they are planning a big 2012 festive celebration with their new baby.
He tells Britain’s Daily Star, "We decided to spend it apart, which will be hard. But we figure this is the last year we can spend it with our families. Una always goes back to Ireland and I go back to mine, but next year we’ll try and get everyone together. It’s changing the ways after this year, so this is the last of the old ways. Singer NICOLE SCHERZINGER has opened up about her split from LEWIS HAMILTON, insisting she still loves the Formula 1 racing driver.

Pop star PINK came to the rescue of a badly injured dog by reportedly paying for the puppy to undergo life-saving surgery.
The animal-loving singer read a story online about the plight of the pooch, which had sustained three broken legs after it was thrown off an overpass in Los Angeles, and contacted a rescue charity to offer her assistance, according to TMZ.com.
The website reports Pink handed over $5,000 (£3,125) to the Ace of Hearts animal rescue organisation to pay for the puppy’s successful surgery. The dog has since reportedly been adopted by a local family.

Rapper TYLER, THE CREATOR has been arrested for allegedly vandalising sound equipment after performing at a gig in Los Angeles.
The hip-hop star was playing at his band Odd Future’s Christmas show at the Roxy on Sunset Boulevard on Thursday night (22Dec11), but as he came off stage the rapper, real name Tyler Okonma, allegedly vandalised some equipment.
In fan footage posted online, he can be seen kicking and throwing equipment across the stage, causing staff members to call cops.
The star was handcuffed in front of his mother, who was attending the concert, and taken into custody on suspicion of vandalism, reports TMZ.com.

Actor ELIJAH WOOD is baffled by the increase in big money blockbusters, insisting they’re failing to attract audiences.
The Lord of the Rings star has been watching box office trends, and he’s worried by the lack of cinemagoers turning out to see high-profile releases.
He tells Britain’s Guardian newspaper, "It’s like there’s no middle class of movies any more. It’s either minuscule budgets or it’s f**king $200 million. You don’t need to spend that much money! "And it’s sort of failing. A lot of films have come out this year that were supposed to be huge and haven’t been. That’s a bad trend. I’m biased, but the thing that separates Rings from that crop is that it felt like the world’s biggest independent film.
"It was new territory for everyone, so we were figuring s**t out as we went along. (Director) Peter (Jackson) was knocking on people’s doors asking if we could use their land to pick up some shots. The scale was massive, of course, but it never felt like a blockbuster; it felt intimate and small. Hollywood doesn’t always include that spirit."

Director BRAD BIRD snubbed the chance to film the new MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movie in 3D because he is "not exactly convinced" by the new technology.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol features the franchise’s lead Tom Cruise in his most daring stunts yet, including scaling the world’s tallest building in Dubai.
But rather than showcase the impressive action shots in 3D, Bird kept his filming to more traditional methods.
He tells BBC’s Newsbeat, "I think that any time you have a new toy, people feel excited about it and then they overuse it. I remain interested in 3D but I’m not exactly convinced yet. What I’m more interested in is really high resolution, and really big screens.
"For me I don’t like the glasses so much, and it’s a little dark. I think people are forgetting about the power of a really sharp bright image on a really big screen."

BORED TO DEATH creator JONATHAN AMES racked up a $1,600 (£1,000) bar tab after offering to buy fans of the axed show a drink at a party in New York on Wednesday (21Dec11).
The writer hosted a bash in Brooklyn, declaring the event to be Bored To Death’s "funeral", and invited devotees to join him to mourn the loss of the series, which was recently cancelled.
The bar was swamped with fans and Ames spent a small fortune buying them all booze.
Speaking at the party, he told the New York Post’s Page Six column, "I was not expecting this. I’m gonna lose a lot of money. Everyone gets one drink. Don’t abuse the privilege." After the event, Ames thanked fans for coming in a post on his Twitter.com page, writing, "Last night’s funeral for Bored To Death was our greatest premiere ever! Thank you to all the fans… who came out!!!"

Movie bosses behind THE HANGOVER sequel are facing legal action from the Louis Vuitton fashion house over a purse carried by ZACH GALIFIANAKIS’ character in the hit comedy.
Executives of the French brand have filed a lawsuit against the makers of The Hangover Part II alleging a handbag seen onscreen in the hands of Galifianakis is a Louis Vuitton fake.
The legal papers, filed at a federal court in New York on Thursday (22Dec11), state fashion bosses are unhappy with a scene in which the actor carries a bag with a LVM logo and says, "Careful, that is a Louis Vuitton".
They claim the bag is not a real Louis Vuitton and could cause confusion among consumers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Louis Vuitton bosses want the scene to be cut from the film, while they are also demanding a share of the movie’s profits.

Hollywood couple JENNIFER ANISTON and JUSTIN THEROUX have shown off their caring sides this Christmas (11) by donating money to a children’s hospital in lieu of sending gifts to their friends.
The Friends star went public with her new boyfriend earlier this year (11) and they have sent out a joint card to their loved ones this festive season.
The couple has also handed over an undisclosed sum to America’s St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and an animal organisation to mark the holiday.

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is ending his year (11) on a high as official records show the BEATLES legend has accumulated almost double his 2010 earnings.
The singer has enjoyed a successful tour in the past 12 months, and wrapped his On The Run shows in his hometown of Liverpool, England on Tuesday night (20Dec11).
Now, documents from his company show McCartney, who married American heiress Nancy Shevell in October (11), made $46.4 million (£29 million) in 2011, compared with $26.2 million (£16.4 million) last year (10), according to Britain’s The Sun.
However, the star paid himself an income of just $1.6 million (£1 million), compared with a previous $10.7 million (£6.7 million) salary and dividend payments in 2010.

LINDSAY LOHAN has landed a new modelling gig following her risque Playboy shoot as the new face of a top denim line.
The Mean Girls star’s spread for Hugh Hefner’s magazine was leaked online earlier this month (Dec11), and the images proved so popular the January/February (12) edition was rush-released.
Now fans of Lohan can see the actress in another saucy shoot - she has posed for a series of provocative campaign pictures for Jag Jeans.

Opera star KATHERINE JENKINS has reached out to her fans in New Zealand after the country was rocked by an earthquake on Friday (23Dec11).
The 5.8-magnitude tremor struck just north of Christchurch, the same city which was devastated by a 6.3-strength quake in February (11).
Welsh singer Jenkins performed at a fundraiser in October (11) to help relief efforts in the area, and she is devastated by news of the latest earthquake.

Veteran crooner TONY BENNETT is set to headline a gala concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a world-renowned American children’s hospital.
The singer will provide the musical entertainment for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s benefit event in Los Angeles next month (Jan11), while stars including Jason Bateman, Hilary Duff and Cindy Crawford have vowed to support the fundraiser.
Bennett, who was a close friend of late St. Jude’s founder Danny Thomas, says, "I know he would be so proud that his mission to help children through St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has continued on so successfully. I am thrilled to be part of the 50th Anniversary to celebrate this wonderful organisation and honour Danny." The gala will take place on 7 January (12) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
