Pop star-turned-actress BILLIE PIPER has only patched up her distant relationship with her parents since becoming a mother, because they were "redundant" when she shot to fame as a teenager.
The Brit became a chart sensation in the U.K. when she was just 15 and landed her first solo number one single in 1998. She moved into her own apartment and travelled the world as she released two hit albums.
Piper then abandoned her pop career and enjoyed a short-lived, booze-fuelled marriage to U.K. TV star Chris Evans, which her parents found out about on a radio show.
And she reveals she only recently became close to her mum and dad again after putting her wild days behind her and welcoming a son in 2009 - admitting she felt she didn’t need them when she was riding her first wave of success.
Piper tells Britain’s Sunday Times Culture magazine, "I only refound (sic) my relationship with them (parents) recently. Sometimes I feel bad about the things that happened between us. Having my own family brought me back to them. I wanted to share the joy of new life with them, and for them to be part of our baby’s life.
"They thought it (fame) would set me up for life. They said, ‘You won’t have the worries we’ve had, you’ll see the world, meet people from all walks of life, live in London.’ I made them redundant as parents. I grew up without them. Because I was given everything I wanted, I was a teenager with power, and I felt I didn’t need them… which made their lives hard. They were terrified. I was very rebellious in my late teens and… I knew they would try to sedate all my madness. But I was loving it."

Former music mogul ALAN MCGEE has been caught up in the British phone hacking scandal after it emerged he was targeted by a tabloid newspaper.
McGee, who discovered Oasis and signed them to his Creation Records label in the early-1990s, has been contacted by cops informing him that his contact details have been discovered among paperwork seized from a private investigator working for the now-defunct News of the World.
The retired businessman plans to sue the newspaper’s owners but admits any voicemails accessed on behalf of the tabloid would most likely only have contained "rambles" from Courtney Love.
In a blog for the Huffington Post, he writes, "I recently returned to Wales after a trip to London and as I stepped foot through the door, I was greeted with a letter from the Metropolitan Police in London. It turns out that my name has popped up in the News of the World phone hacking case and they are investigating as I type… If the police confirm that I have indeed been hacked, and even though this will have been years ago, I will still sue. I couldn’t abide NOTW, so I won’t be losing sleep in suing them.
"The joke to me is that in the period they are talking about, whoever had the pleasure to get into my voicemail would have just been faced with hour-long Courtney Love rambles from LA about her new songs at 5am UK time. I hope they enjoyed their hack there (if obviously it happened) and I pity them having to listen to all that madness." The News of the World was closed by bosses at News International in July (11) after it emerged a private investigator working for the newspaper had illegally intercepted the voicemail messages of celebrities and crime victims.

A representative for British pop stars GIRLS ALOUD has moved swiftly to dismiss a new report suggesting they are on the verge of a split.
The Love Machine hitmakers are currently on hiatus and are widely expected to be planning a comeback to mark their 10-year anniversary next year (12).
But the lack of an official announcement has led to speculation about the future of the band, and editors at a British magazine are preparing a cover story on the group’s status this week (beg07Nov11) - prompting an early denial from the band’s spokesman.
In a post on Twitter.com on Monday (07Nov11), a Girls Aloud representative writes, "Just seen a weekly mag cover story on Girls Aloud. Bulls**tTuesday is back tomorrow. It’s like they use GA whenever they’re stuck for a cover - ‘Let’s just run another girls at war story’."

British pop star PIXIE LOTT cheated death during a skiing holiday when her car skidded on a snow drift and almost toppled over the edge of a cliff.
The Mama Do hitmaker was on vacation in France with her parents when their vehicle careered out of control and tumbled onto its side.
Terrified Lott opened a door in a bid to help the family escape certain death, but miraculously her father managed to flip the car back onto its wheels and steer away from danger.
She tells Britain’s Sunday Mirror, "Once, I went skiing in France and we were up this icy mountain driving back from the slopes. We were going really slow, but the car toppled onto its side on the cliff edge and everyone was screaming.
"I was on the side at the top so I opened the door but my dad, who was driving, somehow swerved it back onto the road. He said it was divine intervention because he’d lost control of it. But all of a sudden it spun back onto the road."

TYLER PERRY has assured fans KIM KARDASHIAN is still onboard his new movie project following rumours she had quit in the wake of her shock divorce news.
The socialite has landed a role in Perry’s upcoming film The Marriage Counselor, but after she announced her split from husband Kris Humphries last week (ends06Nov11), she cut short a promotional trip to Australia and many speculated she had exited Perry’s project.
However, the director is adamant Kardashian is still slated to appear in the movie, telling TMZ.com, "She is scheduled to work as planned."

JONNY LEE MILLER and BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH will go head-to-head for the Best Actor prize at Britain’s Evening Standard Theatre Awards for their starring roles in DANNY BOYLE’s FRANKENSTEIN.
The Slumdog Millionaire director returned to his stage roots to helm the National Theatre production and the play’s stars have now won nominations for their roles and will compete against each other in the Best Actor category.
The play is also in the running for the Best Design prize, while other big names to receive nominations include Mike Leigh, who will compete for the Best Director title for his play Grief, and Kristin Scott Thomas (Betrayal), who will take on Sheridan Smith (Flare Path) in the Best Actress category.
The awards ceremony will take place in London on 20 November (11).

GISELE BUNDCHEN helped give a group of young female cancer patients a supermodel-style makeover at the weekend (05-06Nov11) as part of a charity initiative.
The Brazilian beauty was on hand to give the girls lessons in catwalk moves at a beauty salon in Boston, Massachusetts as the group was treated to hair cuts, manicures and make-up applications.
The event was organised by workers at the Jimmy Fund Clinic at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as part of a weekend of fun for patients, which also included a shopping spree, a night in a hotel and dinner at a restaurant.
Local sports reporter John Dennis helped organise Bundchen’s appearance and he reveals the emotional day left the supermodel in floods of tears.
He tells the Boston Herald, "It was the most amazing, wonderful, wonderful thing I’ve ever seen. It was unbelievable. She made every one of those girls feel beautiful, loved and important. It was very, very special."

Actress MIA FARROW has been left without power at her Connecticut home for nine days following severe snow storms in the area.
The electricity at the star’s property in Bridgewater, Connecticut cut out during heavy wintry weather last weekend (29-30Oct11), and Farrow is still without power nine days after the storm.
She has been giving followers on her Twitter.com page daily updates, and as she entered day nine on Monday (07Nov11), Farrow revealed she now has a generator to give her light and heat in some rooms, although she is still without hot water.
She writes, "Day 9 without power… We r (are) lucky to have small generator so heat in some rooms, cold water - light in two rooms. Can’t complain… Honestly it’s time to be grateful for what we DO have."

British actress JENNIFER SAUNDERS has opened up about her cancer battle for the first time, insisting she was "fortunate" to be able to afford the best healthcare money can buy.
The Absolutely Fabulous star spent 10 months fighting breast cancer, and she underwent surgery and chemotherapy before doctors told her she was in remission last year (10).
The funnywoman has maintained a public silence about her illness but has now opened up to reveal she refuses to "identify" herself by association with the disease and finds it hard to believe she even had it.
Saunders tells The Sunday Times Style magazine, "(I’m) feeling back to normal… The funny thing is, and we can talk about it now, but honestly I’ve forgotten I had it. I look back and think, ‘I can’t believe that actually happened.’ Apart from the fact that I have to take some medication now, I don’t feel like a person who’s been through it.
"I think a lot of people like to identify themselves by it, but I would feel a cheat if I did that. I feel very fortunate and well cared for, and lucky to have been able to go (to a) private (healthcare unit). People have much worse times, so it would feel ghastly to want to evoke any sort of sympathy or something. It is what it is. You take the medicine and you’re better. It’s like anything." Saunders is also adamant she wasn’t too bothered about the effects of the treatment on her appearance, such as hair loss, until it took a toll on her face.
She adds, "Actually, you get away with it, just about, otherwise you pull on a hat. Then my face went. That was the only time I thought, ‘F**k, that’s not fair’. I didn’t go out… I think the idea of losing your hair is still a very potent, emotional thing. Not for me, I didn’t mind it so much. What I didn’t realise was that every bit of hair would go. Then, when it comes back, it comes back a lot. Every hair you’ve ever had is suddenly back - reborn."

LINDSAY LOHAN has been released from jail less than five hours after checking into a California prison.
The Mean Girls star arrived at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California shortly before 9pm local time on Sunday night (06Nov11), and she was sent home around 1.30am on Monday morning (07Nov11).
The actress pleaded guilty to a probation violation last Wednesday (02Nov11) and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, but she ended up serving less than five hours behind bars due to prison overcrowding, according to TMZ.com.

Rapper SNOOP DOGG has been accused of letting his football league for youngsters fall into financial difficulty after one of his teams was banned from playing over an allegedly unpaid bill.
The hip-hop star helped set up the Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) several years ago to encourage underprivileged kids to take up the sport.
However, parents of the Pilson Jets players in the Chicago branch of the organisation were left fuming on Sunday (06Nov11) when their kids were banned from taking part in a playoff game.
The veto came over allegations a $22,000 (£14,667) bill for the team’s equipment had been left unpaid, and the players were reportedly told if they turned up to the game, they would be stripped of their uniforms, according to Myfoxchicago.com.
Parent Betty Arias tells the website, "I don’t think it’s fair, but I think it’s more humiliating for them to show up there and (be) asked to take off the equipment, asked to take off your uniform right after the game." Disappointed player Ulyses Lopez adds, "Snoop, I thought he was going to do a better job at supporting these games and stuff." Snoop Dogg had yet to comment on the allegations as WENN went to press.

GEORGE MICHAEL put on a star-studded charity show in London on Sunday night (06Nov11) to raise money for SIR ELTON JOHN’s AIDS Foundation.
The Careless Whisper singer took to the stage at the Royal Opera House for the black tie event in the British capital in front of celebrity guests including Kylie Minogue, Melanie Chisholm, funnyman David Walliams and the Rocket Man himself.
Michael started the performance 40 minutes late, but received rapturous applause from the audience when he finally started the show, and during the concert he thrilled Sir Elton by playing a cover of one of his songs.
However, Michael couldn’t resist poking fun at the veteran star, telling the crowd, "This next song was written by someone I hope has made it in here already - Elton. It’s a song he wrote in the late ’70s and it’s about an ageing pop star. Funny that." Proceeds from the event will go to Sir Elton’s AIDS Foundation and the Elizabeth Taylor Memorial Fund, which the star created in honour of the late Hollywood veteran.

JOHN LENNON’s son Julian insists he was joking when he recently accused his late dad’s BEATLES bandmate SIR PAUL McCARTNEY of "snubbing" him.
Singer/songwriter Julian took to his Facebook.com page last month (Oct11) to apparently blast McCartney for not inviting him to his recent wedding to American heiress Nancy Shevell and ignoring him at a reception in New York.
But he has now posted an update on the social networking website to tell fans his comments were a light-hearted joke which snowballed out of control.
He writes, "Seems many have taken my comment from the other week a little too far… It was truly written, hand on heart, with a whimsical heart… The situation was laughable, more than anything… Wasn’t whining… just stating the facts… Obviously people misplace & mistake my sense of humour & character… C’est La Vie." Julian is Lennon’s son from his first marriage to Cynthia Powell.

KYLIE MINOGUE thrilled fans at a concert in London on Friday (04Nov11) by taking to the stage with British rockers HURTS to perform a version of her hit track CONFIDE IN ME.
The Australian superstar teamed up with the band in 2009 to provide vocals for Devotion, a song on the group’s debut album.
Hurts ended a mammoth two-year tour in the U.K. capital on Friday night - and they celebrated by inviting Minogue onstage to perform Devotion, as well as her own 1994 hit.
In a post on Twitter.com, Hurts singer Theo Hutchcraft shared a photograph of himself with Minogue at the show and described it as "the greatest night of our lives".

ALICIA KEYS hopes to have another baby after completing a 2012 tour.
The singer married music producer Swizz Beatz last July (10) and in October that year (10), they became parents to baby son Egypt.
Keys now admits she wants to expand her family, but she won’t have a second child until she completes another tour.
She tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "I definitely see myself having another child, but not in the next year. I’m going to have to go on tour first."

ARETHA FRANKLIN thrilled fans by putting on a surprise performance during a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday (05Nov11).
The legendary singer was the focus of a week-long tribute by the institution as part of the American Music Masters series, which has previously feted stars including Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Janis Joplin, and it culminated in a concert at the city’s State Theater.
During the evening, Franklin was presented with a key to the city of Cleveland from Mayor Frank Jackson and an honourary doctorate from Case Western University, while stars including Chaka Khan and Lauryn Hill were among the performers.
After the curtain came down, Franklin thrilled the crowd by taking to the stage herself for a surprise performance with former The Temptations star Dennis Edwards, Jerry Butler, and Cissy Houston, telling the crowd, "I’d like to dedicate this to you and thank you all for coming tonight… I am here by the grace of God tonight. TONY IOMMI has detailed an explosive incident with his BLACK SABBATH bandmate BILL WARD in his new book, revealing he once set the drummer on fire and left him with third-degree burns.
The rocker has opened up about his time in the legendary band in new tell-all book, Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell With Black Sabbath.
He has admitted Ward was a target for his bandmates’ practical jokes and the percussionist ended up in hospital on a number of occasions when the pranks got out of hand.
Iommi tells the New York Post, "(We were constantly) playing jokes on each other. Like pouring alcohol on a friend then setting him afire and burning it off. Like once I said, ‘Bill, can I set fire to you?’ He said, ‘Busy… so not just yet.’ Later he said, ‘I’m going home now, so if you want you can set fire to me.’ I threw a bucket over him, and he went on fire. It soaked third-degree burns into his legs.
"He could take it, so we always started with him." Iommi also details another incident which saw Ward hospitalised in California after the rockers covered him in gold spray paint: "In Bel Air we got drunk, so (it) seemed a good idea to spray him head to toe with gold paint then lacquer him. His skin couldn’t breathe. (We) thought he’d die.
"We called the hospital, who asked, ‘What’s wrong with him?’ We said, ‘He’s naked and (covered) in gold paint.’ So they gave him an injection. He’s still with us. Once he asked, ‘Is something wrong?’ Why? ‘You haven’t done anything to me.’"

JUSTIN BIEBER has offered to take a paternity test in a bid to disprove allegations he fathered a child with a 20-year-old woman, according to the claimant’s lawyers.
Mariah Yeater claims she fell pregnant with the star’s baby after having sex with the singer backstage at a concert in Los Angeles, and she has filed a paternity lawsuit against the star.
Bieber has vehemently denied the allegations and his lawyers have vowed to do everything possible to disprove Yeater’s story, and her attorneys have now confirmed the singer has offered to take a paternity test.
Yeater’s lawyers, Matt Pare and Lance Rogers, tell the New York Post, "We are encouraged that Justin Bieber will voluntarily take the paternity test. That is the only way to definitively determine who the father is. The paternity suit was filed in good faith, and it will continue…" Bieber’s spokesman Matthew Hiltzik says, "We are going to take every step to defend and protect Justin."
