FORMER POP STAR SUES GAGA’S MUSICAL DIRECTOR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

Pop star-turned-record executive GERARDO MEJIA is suing LADY GAGA’s musical director over a business dispute.
The Latin rapper/singer, who became an executive for Interscope Records after stepping out of the spotlight, claims he helped Fernando Garibay find fame as a music producer and DJ, and is owed a portion of a lucrative deal he set up for him in 2007.
He has filed a lawsuit against Garibay, who worked on Gaga’s Born This Way album, in Los Angeles claiming he gave up his job in 2004 to become his protege’s manager and he is now demanding at least $4 million (£2.7 million) in compensation, according to TMZ.com.

MINOGUE HAS THYROID TREATMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

Singer-turned-reality TV show judge DANNII MINOGUE is receiving treatment for an under-active thyroid which caused her to shed weight after giving birth.
The Australian star had her first child, son Ethan, last year (10), but shortly after leaving hospital she fell ill and suffered a bout of appendicitis.
She spent months believing her subsequent tiredness and rundown state was a consequence of her new role as a mum, but she was eventually diagnosed with a thyroid condition.
And she’s confessed her health issues even took their toll on her relationship with former rugby star Kris Smith.
Minogue tells British magazine Stella, "Yes, that was a hard time for me. I was physically unwell and that takes its toll on everything. My thyroid stopped working and I had appendicitis. Leading up to that I was getting thinner and thinner, and stressing because I didn’t know what it was.
"Normally you put on weight if you have an under-active thyroid. But there is a percentage of people that have it reversed. It was very hard to concentrate, you can’t sleep, and I got very weak. They explain it to you as running a car without petrol.
"I was finding it hard to pick up Ethan and I was thinking, ‘I’m a new mum, I know I’m tired but surely it can’t be this hard?’. When you’ve just had a baby you think it must be normal tiredness. But it got to the point where I thought, ‘This cannot be normal’. Poor Kris. He was thinking after getting through the pregnancy and the baby that everything would be just fine and he couldn’t work out why I wasn’t well. It was bloody difficult." Asked if the couple is planning to extend its brood, Minogue replies, "Yes, but honestly until I get my health back on track it’s not a possibility."

My children come first - they are my first priority…

CRANSTON DEFENDS TOTAL RECALL REMAKE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

Actor BRYAN CRANSTON has defended movie bosses’ decision to remake TOTAL RECALL, insisting the new film will be much "better" than the 1990 original.
Cranston stars alongside Irish actor Colin Farrell, who takes over the role made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the new adaptation of Philip K. Dick story’s We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.
The Malcolm in the Middle star insists the new script is better than the 1990 film and he is more confident in lead actor Farrell.
He tells New York Magazine, "I don’t think there is much of a challenge at all. I think the script is better. We certainly have a tremendous upgrade in our lead actor. That is less of a comment on Arnold (Schwarzenegger) and more of a comment on Colin (Farrell).
"The special effects over the last 20 years have grown exponentially, so that is going to be a heightened experience. And I just think it is an exciting movie. You know it’s going to entertain - I can guarantee you that." The new Total Recall movie is slated for release in August next year (12).

DOWNEY, JR. ‘DISAPPOINTED’ BY IRON MAN 2

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. has hailed IRON MAN as the film that changed his life, but insists he found the superhero sequel "disappointing".
The actor reaffirmed his place in the Hollywood A-list playing inventor-turned-superhero Tony Star in the 2008 film following a career slump due to years lost in drug addiction.
Downey, Jr. is convinced the success of Iron Man turned his fortunes around, but he was less than impressed with its 2010 sequel, which opened to mixed reviews from critics.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "The first one changed everything for me. And with the second Iron Man there were certain aspects that were dissatisfying and disappointing to me but at least they lit me right.
"(The first one) was a meditation on responsibility and an exploration of how a small group of people can take a two-dimensional idea and, if the winds are right, create something that makes people say, ‘That was my favourite movie of the year’…
"I love a good action movie - a Steve McQueen or Tom Cruise or Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis or Mel Gibson in the right spot, and you smile and say, ‘That’s what this kind of movie is all about.’" Downey, Jr. also admits he was surprised to land an Oscar nomination for his controversial ‘blacked-up’ role in 2008’s Tropic Thunder, because he feared the part would undo all the hard work he put into Iron Man.
He adds, "I signed up to do it and then I did Iron Man and I thought, ‘You know, I think I just buried myself. I did a movie that is going to re-establish me here in a little way and now I’m going to squander any good will I have’… This movie ended up being the most cathartic thing I had done in ages and one of the happiest times in my life."

SWINTON PLANNED TO KILL HER BABY BROTHER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

Oscar-winning actress TILDA SWINTON has sensationally confessed she tried to kill her own brother when he was a newborn baby.
The Michael Clayton star was around four years old when she became resentful at having three brothers and decided to take the life of the youngest child.
But when she approached his cot, she saw the baby chewing his bonnet and removed it from his mouth - and was hailed a lifesaver by her parents.
Swinton admits she buried the incident deep in her memory and only recalled it in 1993 when the murder of two year old James Bulger by ten year olds Jon Venables and Robert Thompson shocked her native Britain.
She tells the Telegraph Magazine, "Years ago, when James Bulger was murdered, every newspaper front page was talking about evil. At that point, having suppressed it for years, I remembered when I was four or five, I tried to kill my own brother. He was newly born and I was disappointed, because he was the third boy. That was enough as far as I was concerned.
"I went into his room to kill him, saw some ribbons from a bonnet going into his mouth, and began to pull them out. And I was discovered saving his life. So I had this strange reputation - my brother’s saviour - and no one knew I wanted to kill him. It took the Bulger case for me to remember that I’d seriously wanted to."

MCCARTNEY MARRIES ON LENNON’S BIRTHDAY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:43 pm

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY married his fiancee NANCY SHEVELL in London on Sunday (09Oct11) on the day his late bandmate JOHN LENNON would have turned 71.
The Beatles legend, 69, proposed to New York socialite Shevell in May (11) after four years together, and they became man and wife on Sunday at London’s Westminster registry office at The Old Marylebone Town Hall - the same venue where McCartney married his first wife, Linda.
The couple received a blessing at a local synagogue on Saturday evening (08Oct11) as part of Shevell’s Jewish religion ahead of Sunday’s civil service.
Shevell wore a flower in her hair and a simple white dress reportedly created by McCartney’s fashion designer daughter Stella, who was among the guests at the nuptials along with the singer’s former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr.
The star’s younger brother Mike reportedly acted as best man, while McCartney’s daughter Beatrice, seven, from his marriage to Heather Mills, acted as bridesmaid.
The newly-weds were greeted by crowds of fans and well-wishers as they emerged from the venue to a hail of confetti and they smiled and waved to the spectators before heading off.
The reception is said to be taking place at McCartney’s nearby home in St John’s Wood, where workers were seen erecting a marquee in the grounds of the property on Friday (07Oct11). Coloured roses, bags of ice and sound equipment were also seen being delivered to the house.
McCartney has been married twice before - his first wife, Linda, died of cancer in 1998, and the star divorced Mills in 2008. Shevell has been married once before.

AUBRY CHALLENGES NANNY REQUIREMENT IN BERRY CUSTODY BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:43 am

HALLE BERRY’s ex-boyfriend GABRIEL AUBRY is asking a judge to amend the pair’s custody deal to allow him to spend time with their young daughter without the presence of a childminder.
The Monster’s Ball beauty split from model Aubry last year (10) and they have been embroiled in a custody battle over Nahla ever since.
Berry was granted permission to take her little girl to Europe, where she is shooting her new movie Cloud Atlas, and the former couple agreed on a deal that would give Aubry visitation while abroad.
But Aubry is now looking to adjust the terms of the agreement, which dictated that a nanny must be present at all times whenever he is with Nahla, three.
His lawyer, Gary Fishbein, headed to court on Friday (07Oct11) to file the request, which was challenged by Berry’s legal representative Neal Hersh, reports TMZ.com.
A decision is expected to be made later on Friday.

MURRAY ADMITTED TO GIVING JACKSON POWERFUL SLEEPING AIDS HOURS BEFORE DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:40 am

DR. CONRAD MURRAY admitted to police that he had provided MICHAEL JACKSON a variety of powerful drugs in the hours leading up to the King of Pop’s death after the singer complained about his inability to sleep.
The Thriller hitmaker’s doctor stands accused of administering the fatal dose of powerful anaesthetic Propofol which cost Jackson his life in 2009.
On the ninth day of his involuntary manslaughter trial, prosecutors played a tape recording of Murray’s interview with Los Angeles police detectives, which took place on 27 June, 2009, two days after Jackson’s passing, in which he details the series of events surrounding the singer’s death.
In the two-hour interrogation, which had never before been heard in public, Murray explains his history with Jackson, revealing he first treated the superstar in 2006 when he and his three children caught a bout of influenza. He continued to treat Jackson on and off, before he was appointed as his personal physician as the King of Pop prepared for his doomed This Is It series of concerts in London.
The most interesting admission in the police interview concerns Murray’s own confession stating that he "took all precautions that were available to me" to help put Jackson to rest as he "was unable to sleep naturally".
He reveals that he began administering anxiety drugs Lorazepam and Midazolam to Jackson at around 1.30am on the fateful morning of 25 June, 2009, and continued to do so over the course of the next nine hours. The drugs failed to work so Murray gave the singer a 25-milligram dose of Propofol - the same substance the doctor had been trying to ween Jackson off, admitting, "Michael loved that drug." The evidence is likely to prove damaging to Murray’s case - he has pleaded not guilty to the charge and his defence lawyers argue that Jackson administered the fatal dose himself.
The trial will resume on Tuesday (11Oct11).

Colombian superstar SHAKIRA is "humbled" to have been appointed to U.S President BARACK OBAMA’s education committee to share her advice on how to provide the best education for Hispanics living in America.
The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker was named a member of the Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics earlier this week (begs03Oct11) and she was officially handed the position during a ceremony at the White House in Washington, D.C. on Thursday (06Oct11).
Shakira, who has long been involved with educational issues in her homeland through her Barefoot Foundation, admits she is flattered to have been approached for the role and insists the position is a "great honour" for her.
Speaking at the event, the singer told the audience, "Being here today is a tremendous honour for me. I am thankful to President Obama and I am humbled that my philanthropic experience could be helpful in some measure and can be used to amplify the message and work of the President and this Commission…
"I hope that through my appointment to this commission, I will be able to share what I’ve learned through the 15 years I have been involved in the education of Latino children. I am sure you will agree with me that race and ethnicity shouldn’t be factors in the success of any child…
"The Obama administration has made a point to improve Latino education and – as I spoke to the President previously – I am extremely passionate about working with the White House to plan an early childhood education summit in the coming year…
"Thank you again, this is a great honour for me, I am so happy to be here." Others joining Shakira include community activist Adrian Pedroza and Arizona’s School District Superintendent Kent P. Scribner.

Rapper TALIB KWELI joined campaigners in New York on Thursday night (06Oct11) to lend his support to the ongoing social equality protests and help "spread the information" about the cause.
The Get By star joined hundreds of activists in downtown Manhattan for the Occupy Wall Street march to speak out against corporate greed, and he entertained protesters by taking control of a microphone to spit a new track called Distractions, about social issues currently facing America.

BONO’S FAMINE ADVERT BANNED IN THE U.K.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:37 am

BONO’s star-studded famine commercial has been banned from airing on U.K. TV - because broadcasting officials fear the clip breaches rules regarding political advertising.
The U2 rocker shot the minute-long advert with a slew of his celebrity pals, including George Clooney, Jessica Alba and Colin Farrell, to raise awareness about the famine crisis sweeping across Eastern Africa.
The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity, which was produced by Bono’s One charity, is aimed at urging government officials to do more to tackle the hunger issue, but the TV commercial has now been taken off the airwaves by bosses at governing body Clearcast amid worries its message could potentially conflict with the terms stated in the 2003 Communications Act.
A Clearcast spokesperson tells BBC News, "These rules ensure that adverts aren’t being broadcast by bodies whose objects are wholly or mainly political.
"One (charity) appears to be caught by this rule as they state that part of their raison d’etre (reason for existence) is to pressure political leaders. It also appears that a number of the claims made in the version of the ad that we have seen are directed towards a political end, which is again against the rules."

THE SIMPSONS’ SHEARER HAS PAY PROPOSAL REJECTED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:34 am

THE SIMPSONS voice actor HARRY SHEARER has accused Fox network bosses of refusing to "share in the show’s success" by granting the cast a portion of the cartoon’s profits in exchange for taking a big pay cut.
The longrunning series faces being axed next year (12) because the hit show is becoming too expensive to produce.
The key castmembers, including Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith, each receive around $400,000 (£259,000)-per-episode, which executives at Fox want to reduce by 45 per cent.
Shearer, who voices the character Mr. Burns, insists he has already offered to bow to Fox chiefs’ demands, but only if they agree to give the show’s stars a share of the profits they rake in annually from merchandising and other related ventures.
However, Shearer claims his proposal was rejected, adding, "(There are) simply no circumstances under which the network would consider allowing me or any of the actors to share in the show’s success." The Simpsons debuted on U.S. TV in 1989.

SIZEMORE WINS EARLY END TO PROBATION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:34 am

Actor TOM SIZEMORE has been taken off probation early after proving his innocence following an arrest in California last month (Sep11).
The Saving Private Ryan star received a visit from Los Angeles police in the early hours of 20 September (11) after an acquaintance reportedly stole a car and claimed he was living at Sizemore’s apartment.
But when cops ran a check on the actor’s driving licence, they discovered Sizemore was a wanted man for failing to complete his community service hours stemming from a 2009 misdemeanour for spousal battery. He was taken into custody and later released on bail.
Sizemore maintained his innocence throughout the arrest, blaming the community service mix-up on a clerical mistake, and he has now been proved right - a judge corrected the error in court on Friday (07Oct11) and even ended the star’s probation a year-and-a-half early, according to TMZ.com.
The actor’s new lawyer, Kent Schaffer, presented proof of Sizemore’s logged volunteer hours, prompting the judge to grant Sizemore the legal victory.
