GABRIEL RETHINKING COVERS ALBUM PROJECT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:13 pm

PETER GABRIEL is re-imagining his I’LL SCRATCH YOURS covers album project - because so many artists whose hits he covered on his SCRATCH MY BACK release aren’t interested in reworking his songs.
Gabriel recorded orchestral renditions of songs by David Bowie, Arcade Fire, Neil Young and Radiohead among others for the 2010 album and he had hoped the artists would return the favour for a covers album of his own work.
But too many of the acts he honoured with orchestral makeovers aren’t interested in being part of the project.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I’ve sort of given up waiting… We have six excellent tracks with Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, David Byrne, Steven Merritt and Elbow. So now I think that I might try to find three or four other people to cover my stuff, so that I can make an album out of that, and then get that out next year in some form."

WILLIAMS, JR. RECORDS SONG ABOUT CONTROVERSY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:13 pm

Embattled country singer HANK WILLIAMS, JR. has recorded a new song to address the controversy surrounding his recent clash with U.S. TV bosses.
The fervent Republican’s sports anthem Are You Ready For Some Football? was pulled from its weekly slot at the beginning of ESPN sports show Monday Night Football last week (03Oct11), hours after he slammed U.S. President Barack Obama and compared the leader to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler during a breakfast TV interview with Fox & Friends.
He later apologised for his comments but ESPN bosses have opted to end their run with the grizzled country star and his anthem and instead look for another lead-in tune.
In protest, Williams, Jr. has entered a Tennessee studio to lay down a new track, in which he’ll musically share his side of the story.
According to the Associated Press, the third verse of a new song contains the line "So Fox ‘n Friends wanna put me down/Ask for my opinion/Twist it all around… Well two can play that gotcha game you’ll see." And Williams, Jr. also urges listeners to keep Fox & Friends and ESPN out of their home toward the end of the song.
The new song is set to be released on iTunes this week (begs10Oct11).

GALLAGHER BAFFLED BY NEW CHART SYSTEM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

British rocker NOEL GALLAGHER is convinced the music industry has become more complicated in recent years as he now struggles to understand the modern chart system.
The former Oasis star can’t work out why digital singles have a different release date to physical copies, and insists the new way of logging sales is overly confusing.
He tells Britain’s NME, "It’s f**ked now. Some of us are old enough to remember (British chart TV shows) Top Of The Pops and The Chart Show. If you headlined Top Of The Pops you were f**king number one and the world was alright and everyone knew their place.
"The charts are insane at the moment, the way people sell music is insane. (My new single) is out, but it’s not actually out. You can buy it but you can’t buy it. It’s at Number 20 in the charts but it’s not actually been released. I don’t understand why. (Someone told me) ‘We release it two weeks after its been released now’. Well, who is ‘we’? And why do ‘we’ do that? It doesn’t make any sense to me."

LACHEY SAD THAT HONEYMOON RETREAT IS NO MORE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

Pop star-turned-TV personality NICK LACHEY has mixed emotions about his honeymoon, because the Necker Island retreat he jetted his bride VANESSA MINNILLO off to after their July (11) wedding was burned down three weeks later.
The former 98 Degrees star had the perfect post-wedding getaway on Richard Branson’s holiday isle and was left speechless when he read about the fire that destroyed the main house less than a month later.
He says, "About three weeks after it was struck by lightning and the main house burned down.
"It’s kinda sad to look back and see these pictures but at least we have the memories we had… and I’m sure he’ll (Branson) rebuild it and it will be bigger and better than ever. That’s just his mindset."

THE ACADEMY IS SPLIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:13 pm

Rock band THE ACADEMY IS have split after eight years together.
The punk group, which was once signed to Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz’s record label Decaydance, released three albums, beginning in 2005 with Almost Here.
Releasing a statement to announce the news via NME.com, frontman William Beckett writes, "I’m having a hard time starting this. I could say something like ‘pride comes before the fall’, or ‘the skill in attending a party is knowing when to leave’. Rather, I’m going to just come right out and be honest. The September (11) show in New York was the last show for The Academy Is. While this is a very difficult decision to make, I believe in my heart that it is the right decision to make.
"For years there has a been a growing distance felt within the band as we’ve progressed, both geographically and artistically and instead of trying to patch the holes that we’re left with, my heart tells me its time to move on with the next chapter of our lives. I want to thank the fans, the world’s greatest, for all of your love and support." Beckett intends on staying in the music business, adding, "While this is the end of 8 unforgettable years of The Academy Is… this is not the end of my story. Not by a long shot. I will be working on a new record in the coming months and have never felt more freedom and inspiration to create my best and most honest work yet."
