MEN AT WORK APPEAL REQUEST DENIED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

Australia’s High Court has ruled MEN AT WORK will not be able to make a final appeal against a ruling which found them guilty of copying part of their hit track DOWN UNDER.
Last year (10), a judge in Australia agreed the flute solo in the song samples parts of Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree, a tune written by a music teacher for the Girl Guides in 1934.
The song’s composers, bandmembers Colin Hay and Ron Strykert, were ordered to pay royalties to Larrikin Music Publishing, the company which owns the rights to Kookaburra, and their EMI record label had an appeal against the ruling turned down in March (11).
The case went to the country’s High Court this week (beg03Oct11) and a three-judge panel has now decided another appeal will not be allowed.

THE CRANBERRIES TO RETURN WITH NEW RECORD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:22 pm

THE CRANBERRIES are set to return to the charts with their first new album in 10 years.
The Irish rockers, who shot to fame in the 1990s, have not released a record since 2001’s Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, but frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan has confirmed they have been back in the studio working on new songs.
She tells Billboard, "It’s kind of picking up where we left off… The whole thing was very lovely. It really came together really nicely. A lot of the tracks were written without really thinking about it. They just came.
"I suppose we had more respect for each other and what we were doing. In the latter days, towards 2003, we were just kind of going through the motions a bit. Now we’re really happy and really appreciate what we have together." The new album, titled Roses, will be released on Valentine’s Day (14Feb11), 2012.

CORGAN DISMISSES PUMPKINS SPLIT RUMOURS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:19 pm

SMASHING PUMPKINS frontman BILLY CORGAN has assured fans the band is not on the verge of a split, amid reports they plan to quit if their next album flops.
The rockers are set to release their ninth album Oceania in November (11), and Corgan appeared to cast doubt on the future of the group in a recent interview with Billboard.
He said, "I think if (Oceania) basically hits the same wall a lot of the other stuff has hit, we’re going to have to step back and really evaluate where we’re going, because it’s a tremendous amount of energy to put out to just feel like you’re throwing a pebble in the ocean." Corgan is adamant his comments have been blown out of proportion, and insists the band has no intention of splitting up.
He tells Crestfallen.com, "I would say those reports are irresponsible. We are very happy together as a band and as friends, and there are no plans to disband, nor any discussions about disbanding.
"My point was if Oceania is not well received, it would be time to change our focus as a band. I have plenty of projects that have been sitting on the shelf for a while that I’d be more than happy for us to get into. That said, Oceania is a record we are very proud of and we hope people feel about it as strongly as we do."

HAPPY DAYS MOTORCYCLE FOR SALE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:16 pm

The motorcycle ridden by HENRY WINKLER’s character in HAPPY DAYS is set to go under the hammer.
The 1949 Triumph Trophy TR5 made a number of appearances with Winkler as The Fonz in the hit TV show, but has not been ridden since the series came to an end in 1984.
It was originally supplied to the show by Hollywood stuntman Bud Ekins, Steve McQueen’s body double who completed the famous motorcycle jump over a barbed wire fence in 1963 movie The Great Escape.
Nick Smith, of auctioneers Bonhams, says, "This is the coolest motorbike ever - you would be hard pushed to find a cooler one. The two things that represent The Fonz are his black leather jacket and his bike… It would be quite something if you could say that you owned Fonzie’s motorbike." The auction will place in Los Angeles on 12 November (11).
