MIRREN FOUND U.K. RIOTS ‘TERRIFYING’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:12 am

Veteran British actress DAME HELEN MIRREN has opened up about her reaction to the recent riots in her native U.K., revealing she found the unrest "terrifying".
Last month (Aug11), cities across England were blighted by rebels looting shops and setting fire to buildings over the course of four days.
Mirren was disgusted by the scenes of chaos and has likened the behaviour to "cannibalism".
She tells Radio Times magazine, "It was terrifying. There was a rush of crazed adrenaline and everyone… got caught up in it.
"We’re a funny, complicated country, Britain, there’s a streak of savagery and this was like cannibalism, society eating itself in a way." The actress, who played Jane Tennison in hit TV series Prime Suspect, is calling for more ethnic groups to be recruited in Britain’s police forces to help cut down criminal activity: "What they need are more of them (Jane Tennison-like cops) - black Jane Tennisons and Asian Jane Tennisons."

BUSH REPLACED PARTON AS GABRIEL’S DON’T GIVE UP PARTNER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:09 am

KATE BUSH signed up to duet with PETER GABRIEL on DON’T GIVE UP after DOLLY PARTON turned the rocker down.

He tells TheQuietus.com, "There’s an interesting story about this song. Because there was a reference of America roots music in it when I first wrote it, it was suggested that Dolly Parton sing on it.
"But Dolly turned it down… and I’m glad that she did, because what Kate did on it is brilliant."

PORTNOY SUES DREAM THEATER EX-BANDMATES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:09 am

Rocker MIKE PORTNOY has launched a lawsuit against his former DREAM THEATER bandmates, accusing them of "wrongfully excluding" him from the line-up.
The drummer, who helped form the band in 1985, left last year (10) after he asked the other four members if they could take a hiatus and they refused.
Now he is taking legal action against the group, claiming John Petrucci, John Myung, Jordan Rudess and James LaBrie "are wrongfully using the name of the band in connection with the promotion of live performances by the individual defendants, without the participation or consent of" Portnoy.
Since news of the lawsuit broke on Monday (19Sep11), Portnoy has taken to his Twitter.com page to play down the matter.
In a string of posts, he writes, "Everyone needs to chill out. Stop feeding into this negative poison on the net… I am legally NOT ALLOWED to speak of business matters, but I’m sure you realise there are two sides to every coin… If I could openly talk about this stuff and explain the REALITY of everything, I would love nothing more!!! But I am legally unable to discuss it…
"In the meantime, life is bright and positive… I am happy and so are they… so shouldn’t YOU be too??? Don’t believe the hype… Carpe Diem!"

DEWAN-TATUM FELT ‘EMPOWERED’ IN PLAYBOY BUNNY OUTFIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:06 am

Actress JENNA DEWAN-TATUM couldn’t wait to try on her sexy costume for her role in new TV drama THE PLAYBOY CLUB, because wearing the Playboy Bunny outfit gave her a sense of empowerment.
The star portrays a waitress in publishing mogul Hugh Hefner’s first Playboy Club in Chicago, Illinois, and instead of feeling objectified, she insists the revealing attire couldn’t have made her feel "more like a woman".
She tells PR.com, "Like it or hate it, the Playboy bunny is iconic. I think it’s a beautiful, sexy, womanly outfit. I also believe that by today’s standards, we are wearing a lot more clothing (on the show) than most bathing suits and bikinis out there! "What I love so much about the Playboy bunny costume is that it creates this hourglass figure when you wear it. For somebody like me who has to work hard to have my curves, it’s nice to wear something that helps me out a little bit, gives me that corset and gives me those hips. As soon as you put it on you feel empowered, you feel sexy and you feel womanly. There are very few things I’ve worn in my life that I can say make me feel more like a woman." But Dewan-Tatum, who is married to her Step Up co-star Channing Tatum, is adamant she has no interest in exploring the world of Playboy further and would never consider stripping off for the famous men’s magazine.
She adds, "No. I’m not looking to pose nude in anything."

WINDING REFN SWEARS ON BREAKFAST TV SHOW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:06 am

BBC bosses have issued a formal apology after filmmaker NICOLAS WINDING REFN turned the airwaves blue during an early morning interview on Monday (19Sep11).
The director was appearing on U.K. TV show BBC Breakfast alongside actress Carey Mulligan to promote their film Drive.
Mulligan was seen cringing as the filmmaker described the level of violence in the action movie, insisting it was "a bit like f**king".
Horrified presenter Bill Turnbull quickly apologised for the remark and asked Winding Refn to "try and make the point without using that word".
Chiefs at the BBC have since issued viewers a further statement, which reads, "Unfortunately a guest used a swear word during a live interview. Bill Turnbull immediately challenged his language and both presenters apologised to viewers.
"There was a further apology at the end of the programme. We are sorry if anyone was offended."

In a pregnancy blog for People.com she writes, "I’m currently 21 weeks along and we recently found out that we are having a… GIRL! In all honesty, I had no preference in regards to gender; I just wanted the little peanut to be healthy. (Truly - I’m not just being politically correct here.) But I must admit, when I heard that we were having a girl - my heart skipped a beat…
"Images of bubblegum pink and sweet little dresses filled my brain and I could hardly stand my excitement! (Side note: If you ask my husband, she will be a tomboy, so we are clearly on different pages as far as her style goes.)"

GORDON-LEVITT SAVED CANCER FILM AFTER MCAVOY QUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:03 am

JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT signed up to play a cancer victim in new movie 50/50 after JAMES MCAVOY pulled out of the film at the eleventh hour.
Director Jonathan Levine reveals McAvoy had to quit the project following "a family emergency".
The filmmaker says, "It was really, really tense and scary for a couple of days. We didn’t really know what the fate of the movie was and we were worried for James.
"Once we found out he would not return we found Joe and he was a great choice. Joe saved this movie in many ways." Levine also had a last-minute title change: "The original title was I’m With Cancer, which I didn’t think was the most commercially viable way to go. As someone who has been through cancer with family members I wouldn’t want to get two tickets to see a film called that. We had a huge title search and at the end of the day 50/50 won out."

SHEEN: ‘GODDESSES WERE AN EXPERIMENT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:27 pm

CHARLIE SHEEN insists his decision to recruit two girlfriends to be his ‘goddesses’ earlier this year (11) was simply a psychological "experiment".
The former Two and a Half Men star hit headlines earlier this year (11) when he announced he was living with two women, porn star Rachel Oberlin, aka Bree Olson, and nanny Natalie Kenly, who he called his "goddesses".
Oberlin left him in April (11) and Kenly followed suit shortly after, leaving Sheen a free man again.
And now, opening up about his recent love affairs, the star admits the decision to date the women simultaneously was purely born out of his desire to do something different.
During an appearance on U.S. programme The Wendy Williams Show on Monday (19Sep11), he said, "It kind of ran it’s course. And it was really an experiment, just seeing if you could keep two women together, peacefully under the same roof. It’s really hard, unless they’re lesbians, you know, and even then (it would be hard)."

MCCARTNEY’S NEW BALLET IS ALL ABOUT OCEANS’ PLIGHT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:27 pm

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s new ballet score was inspired by the plight of the world’s oceans.
The former Beatles rocker has composed the music for new ballet Ocean’s Kingdom, which will debut in New York later this week (22Sep11) and he admits there’s a big message behind the score.
McCartney tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I read recently that in five years we’ll have ruined the oceans and lose millions of species of fish - so the ocean kingdom represents purity and the earth kingdom (in the story), which is kind of edgy, wants to steal it."

KISS ARE COMIC BOOK STARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

GENE SIMMONS and his KISS bandmates have been forever immortalised as comic book stars.
The rock group recently partnered with Archie Comics to launch a new four-part series, called Archie Meets Kiss, which is set to hit U.S. stores this November (11).
The new collection is said to follow KISS on an adventure as the band helps the Archie regulars protect their town from an invasion of monsters.
And although the band is often characterised by its lewd, X-rated behaviour, Simmons feels confident the illustrations of his trademark look won’t be offensive to the publication’s young fan base.
He tells the New York Post, "KISS is all things to all people… A five or 10-year-old fan doesn’t look at the lascivating (sic) nature of my tongue the same way someone much older would - such a thing is not obvious to a five-year-old, and nor should it be."

BAREILLES AUCTIONING OFF MEMORABILIA TO HELP STAGE COLLAPSE VICTIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

Singer SARA BAREILLES has collected celebrity memorabilia from her famous friends for a charity auction to benefit the families affected by the Indiana State Fair stage collapse.
The Love Song star had just left the stage when storm winds brought the structure down, killing seven festival-goers and injuring another 40.
And she’s still recovering from the August (11) tragedy.
She says, "It definitely changes the way you step onstage. We were all very fortunate that day and no one in my crew… was hurt from that, but we all saw a lot of stuff that we wish we hadn’t seen." Now she’s determined to help those recovering from the tragedy.
Bareilles adds, "We’ve put together an eBay auction to benefit the families that were affected by that tragic event… All sorts of artists have donated time and unique special gifts." The memorabilia went on show on Bareilles’ website on Monday (19Sep11).

THE DRUMS SINGER URGES KINGS OF LEON TO SPLIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

KINGS OF LEON have been urged to split up by the frontman of one of their recent support acts.
The Drums singer Jonathan Pierce insists that touring with the Followill brothers and cousin Matthew didn’t endear him to the family band, currently on hiatus - and he’s definitely not a fan.
He tells ClickMusic.com, "I would advise them to split up and stop making music. I don’t think they’re really helping anybody - they’ve never made a song that’s really touched me in any way. I honestly think that the new Britney Spears record is better than their songs.
"They’re very American bar rock and it’s not interesting, it doesn’t affect me at all." But Pierce does have a few kind words to say about Kings bassist Jared Followill: "I do have to say that Jared was a very kind man and he’s smarter than he’s letting on.
"I don’t think he really enjoys the music that Kings Of Leon are putting out. I’ve had long conversations with him and he’s very open to me. He has really great taste in music and likes really great bands. I think he looks at Kings of Leon and it’s just a job that he has." Pierce isn’t the only celebrity who has taken aim at Kings of Leon in recent weeks - in August (11), Hanson star Isaac Hanson told WENN the bandmates needed to work on their attitude.
He said, "I have a hard time with musicians who act like p**cks because it just makes me mad. I just sit there and I go, ‘You know what, dude, no matter whether you’re in a band just surviving or you’re in a bus playing stadiums, one way or another you’re still among the rare breed of people that are actually getting paid to do it.’ "If you’re actually making a living doing it, man, pinch yourself every day, because it goes if you don’t love it… and people will eventually get p**sed off. And I’m gonna call somebody out on it - the Kings of Leon guys are running some risks. They’re irritating people; you can’t do that too much. Eventually the bad boy image affects fans’ willingness to show up. Their fans will get bummed out."

DEGRAW HAS NO MEMORY OF CAB RUN-IN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:21 pm

Singer/songwriter GAVIN DEGRAW has no idea if reports suggesting he was struck by a cab on the night he was brutally beaten up in New York are true, because his concussion was so severe.
The Chariot star also suffered a broken nose and other injuries after a gang of thugs turned on him as he walked home from a night out with friends in early August (11).
It was reported that DeGraw took another blow when he was hit by a taxi as he staggered home after the attack, before a passerby found him and called for an ambulance to take him to hospital.
The singer recalls his struggle trying to dial 911 on his cell phone and he admits the only knowledge he has about the cab is from a third party.
He tells UsMagazine.com, "I was having a hard time calling because my cell was so bloody. I was bleeding so much and I remember my fingers were sliding all over the keypad. I remember that being very frustrating. I got there (to the hospital) because someone said that I had an encounter with a cab.
"I didn’t know anything about that at that point. I had a pretty serious concussion already so I don’t remember very much… I think the person who called the ambulance said that I had been hit by a cab. I don’t know exactly what that means." But DeGraw can understand why no cab driver would have wanted to give him a ride.
He says, "My speculation is that I saw the cab and it stopped so I went up to it to get in because I was so bloody and needed help to take me to the hospital. He probably saw how bloody I was and stepped on the pedal from there. This is more speculation, you know what I mean? "I don’t know if I was hit by a cab. I probably grabbed the handle to get in, he probably saw it, and stepped on the pedal which could have thrown me. Maybe the cab kind of grazed me at that point and threw me off into the road or sidewalk or whatever. That’s when the person called the ambulance."

HANNAH: ‘OIL PIPELINE IS INCREDIBLY BAD NEWS’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:21 pm

Actress and activist DARYL HANNAH is calling on lawmakers to reconsider plans to construct a major new oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S., insisting the $13 billion project will make America a "slave to fossil fuels".
The Splash star has been campaigning against proposals to build the Keystone XL pipeline, which would stretch from Canada to America’s Gulf Coast, and she was arrested last month (Aug11) as she joined a sit-in protest outside the White House in Washington, D.C.
Hannah stepped up her fight for the cause on Monday (19Sep11) when she claimed the construction of the pipeline will be a disaster waiting to happen.
In an interview with CNN, she says, "It’s not if it will have a spill, it’s when it will have a spill…" And the actress insists few people will actually benefit from the project.
She adds, "I highly doubt that it’s actually gonna make oil prices cheaper and it will shackle us essentially to being a slave to fossil fuels for the next however long, I mean for very long because it’s a $13 billion project. So it’s incredibly bad news. We need to move towards clean, renewable, safe jobs and safe energy."
