Singer/actress MANDY MOORE showed off her charitable side on Monday (19Sep11) by hosting an event for an anti-malaria organisation in New York.

Officials at the event, which marked 10 years in the fight against malaria, announced there has been a 40 per cent fall in cases of the disease, but Moore insists it is important to keep up fundraising efforts.
She says, "I think now is a really critical time to continue the momentum that this movement has garnered in the last 10 years in order to meet that millennium development goal by 2015. It’s important to continue to raise awareness and to continue to raise funds and to not stop now because so much headway has been made."

U.S. X FACTOR REVIEWERS PREFER ‘INTERESTING’ COLE TO SCHERZINGER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:21 pm

CHERYL COLE’s short-lived role as a judge on the American version of THE X FACTOR has been hailed a success by U.S. TV reviewers, with critics insisting the British singer is more "interesting" than her replacement NICOLE SCHERZINGER.
Simon Cowell fought for the Girls Aloud star to be placed on the panel of the Stateside adaptation of his hit talent show after three hugely successful years as a judge on the British programme.
However, he was forced to remove Cole and replace her with the former Pussycat Dolls beauty - who had been hired as the show’s co-host - after she failed to impress Fox network bosses.
But in an ironic twist, the British beauty has won over American critics who previewed the first episode ahead of its U.S. premiere on Wednesday night (21Sep11).
Referring to Cole’s short appearance for half of the hour-long show, The New York Times’ reviewer writes, "The opening episode gives a surprising amount of screen time to Cheryl Cole… In the premiere she just kind of disappears midshow, without much explanation, and suddenly Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls is in her chair. It’s a downgrade. Ms. Cole showed glimmers of being interesting; in two seasons as a judge on The Sing-Off on NBC, Ms. Scherzinger was a pretty face but, judicially speaking, not much more than a seat warmer." A critic for the Los Angeles Times adds, "Cowell has said he replaced Cole because she seemed ‘bewildered’, but on a first impression, she is much more interesting than Scherzinger, if only for her fabulous Geordie (northern English) accent." Meanwhile, a reporter for The Chicago Tribune writes, "Scherzinger doesn’t come off as an obvious improvement (to Cole)."

ADELE FORCED TO PLAY ARENAS TO MEET FAN DEMAND

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

ADELE has been forced to give up her dream of only ever performing in small venues due to an overwhelming demand for tour tickets.
The Rolling In The Deep star suffers severe stage fright, and earlier this year (11), she insisted she will never play an arena tour due to her fear of huge crowds.
But during a performance at London’s small Hammersmith Apollo on Tuesday (20Sep11), Adele revealed the stellar success of her second album 21 means she has to move to arenas to meet ticket demands from her fans.
She told revellers, "Do you like seeing me in small venues like this one? This is the last time you’ll catch me at a venue like this. These will be my last theatre dates as I’m moving on to arenas. I’ll be at the (London) O2 (Arena) in February.
"Too many people want to see my shows, I have to. Don’t worry, I’ll still get into the crowd and everything. You know I don’t like all that arena s**t!"

SUGABABES TACKLE SPLIT RUMOURS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

British pop stars SUGABABES have spoken out to dismiss rumours of a split.
Speculation about the girl group’s future emerged this week (beg19Sep11) when rumours swirled suggesting singer Jade Ewen had quit the band.
The gossip went into overdrive when another British singer, Little Boots, wrote in a post on Twitter.com, "Yes guys it’s true, I’m replacing Jade in the Sugababes." Ewen has now come forward to silence talk of a split, insisting the story isn’t true and the group is actually preparing to start work on a new album.
In a post on her own Twitter page, she writes, "Wow! So who started this rumour guys?? The only place this Sugababe is going is to the studio with the girls to work on our new album!"

B.O.B.’S MANAGER PAYS DISPUTED BAR BILL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:15 pm

B.O.B.’s manager has stepped in to settle a bar bill after a venue owner in upstate New York accused the rapper of allegedly walking out without paying.
The Airplanes hitmaker, real name Bobby Ray Simmons, Jr., and his entourage reportedly visited Level B in Ithaca on Saturday night (17Sep11) following a gig at Cornell University.
However, bar boss Brad Weiss claimed the group left without settling the tab, which included three bottles of $300 (£200) Grey Goose Vodka.
He decided not to take the matter to the authorities, but subsequently expressed his disappointment in the star, telling local newspaper the Cornell Daily Sun, "We decided letting it go was more prudent than calling the authorities or pursuing a possibly costly legal battle." Now B.O.B’s manager, Brian Richardson, has taken care of the costs in a bid to clear the rapper’s name.
He says, "I just want to make it right by Level B, and I want the people of Cornell to know that we’re a class act." Weiss adds, "They were really apologetic. High marks to these guys… (They) seemed very concerned about all the bad publicity…"

WEST WINS RAVE REVIEWS AT HOMETOWN THEATRE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:12 pm

DOMINIC WEST has won rave reviews for his role in SHAKESPEARE’s OTHELLO after opening the show at his hometown theatre.
The actor plays villainous Iago in the production opposite his The Wire co-star Clarke Peters as Othello and they started the stage run in West’s native Sheffield, England at The Crucible theatre, which his grandfather helped build.
The pair, who played fellow detectives in the hit TV show, both won praise from critics, with reviewers lauding West for stealing the show as the evil Iago.
In Britain’s Daily Telegraph, critic Dominic Cavendish, writes, "The night belongs to Iago," commending West’s "knack for evil" and adding, "He grins, he glints, he lets shades of the northern jester creep in - and you can see why everyone’s his fool." Michael Billington of The Guardian adds, "What is excellent about West is that he has a surface honesty that makes him grammatically plausible and that yields a lot of laughs," while The Independent’s Paul Taylor writes, "With his forthright approach and strong Sheffield tones, he’s like a deadpan whirlwind parody of the plain-speaking Yorkshireman… The actor’s achievement is to marry this manner to the chillingly hypnotic, manipulative power and psychopathic emotional dissociation… There are moments here that freeze the soul."

FARROW PLEADS FOR CLEMENCY ON BEHALF OF DEATH ROW PRISONER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:12 pm

Actress and human rights activist MIA FARROW has issued a desperate plea to authorities in Georgia to halt the controversial execution of Death Row prisoner TROY DAVIS on Wednesday night (21Sep11).
Davis was convicted in 1991 of fatally shooting off-duty police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989, despite prosecutors failing to find a murder weapon or any physical evidence linking him to the crime.
His lawyers, who have maintained their client is a victim of mistaken identity, had a plea for clemency rejected on Tuesday (20Sep11) and one final appeal, filed on Wednesday morning in a bid to prevent Davis being killed by lethal injection, was also denied.
A host of celebrities, including hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, country singer Chely Wright and author Salman Rushdie, voiced their disbelief at the clemency denial and now Farrow has called on government officials in Georgia to step in and intervene.
In a series of posts on Twitter.com, she writes, "GA (Georgia) prison medical staff shd (should) stay home (on Wednesday). Grievous errors in case against Troy Davis. Too much doubt for execution to be carried out.
"Georgia gov please don’t execute Troy Davis… Surely we, as a nation - are better than this." Meanwhile, rapper Big Boi has taken it upon himself to organise a march outside government offices in Jackson, Georgia to protest the execution.
Calling on fans to join him, he ‘Tweets’, "We don’t need a trending topic (on Twitter), we need boots on the ground, meet me in Jackson Georgia 40 miles outside Atlanta!!!" Socialite Kim Kardashian has also used her Twitter blog to express her disgust at the judicial system, writing, "I want to vent about the execution of Troy Davis! He is getting the death penalty tonight but I believe he is innocent!!! Too much doubt.
"All he wants is a polygraph test 2 (sic) prove he’s innocent & the judicial system can’t give that to him?… Everyone ‘Google’ Troy Davis & read his story! No one should die by lethal injection when there is this much doubt! Help save Troy Davis"

VAN ZANDT JAMS WITH NEW YORK SCHOOL KIDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

Rocker STEVEN VAN ZANDT surprised a group of school children in New York on Tuesday (20Sep11) by showing up for an impromptu music lesson.
The E Street Band member and his wife, Maureen, visited the Intermediate School 162 Lola Rodriguez De Tio in the Bronx to gift students with new guitars and amplifiers as part of the Little Kids Rock charity program and Van Zandt’s own Rock and Roll Forever Foundation.
The youngsters played a number of songs and Van Zandt joined in with a rendition of The Rolling Stones’ Satisfaction, before hosting a question and answer session for the curious kids.
He tells the New York Daily News, "Putting instruments in their hands is empowering. (Music in schools) is absolutely vital. We’re the only country that thinks art is a luxury - it’s not. Kids who take arts classes do better in school. Instead of saying, ‘Take that iPod out of your ear,’it should be, ‘What are you listening to?’"
