HARVEY’S ALBUM SALES SOAR AFTER MERCURY TRIUMPH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

Sales of PJ HARVEY’s critically-acclaimed album LET ENGLAND SHAKE have soared just hours after she won the coveted Mercury Prize.
The British singer/songwriter became the first musician to scoop the prestigious honour twice when she was named the winner at a ceremony in London on Tuesday evening (06Sep11).
And within hours of her triumph - which added to her 2001 win for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea - record store bosses were reporting a surge in sales of Harvey’s war-themed concept album and predicting it will re-enter the charts this weekend (10-11Sep11).
A spokesman for U.K. music chain HMV says, "It’s somewhat ironic that PJ Harvey’s album has been acclaimed by the Mercury judges almost 10 years to the day that she picked up her first award. Her achievement then was almost entirely overshadowed by the tragic events that were unfolding in New York (on 9/11), and needless to say, her album then didn’t enjoy the usual lifts that a Mercury winner can expect.
"It’s going to be a different story now, and HMV is already seeing a surge in demand for downloads of her album Let England Shake via its hmvdigital platform. With the additional prospect of a sharp rise in CD sales via stores and online over the next few days and weekend - possibly as much as a 10-fold increase given that her album starts from a low sales base - PJ Harvey can expect to re-enter the upper reaches of the charts come next week." The Mercury Prize is awarded annually to the most influential British album of the previous 12 months.

GREEN: ‘I’M NOT CASHING IN ON DAD’S DEATH’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 pm

British rapper PROFESSOR GREEN has used his new track to hit back at comments made by his stepmother accusing him of "cashing in" on his father’s death.
The I Need You Tonight hitmaker’s dad Peter split from his biological mum shortly after his birth and committed suicide in 2008.
Green wrote about their fractured relationship and his heartache for a song on his debut album Goodnight, leading his stepmum Jackie to accuse him of using the death to promote his career.
Green, real name Stephen Manderson, has now opened up about her claims on forthcoming single Read All About It, in which he sings, "Saying I tried to cash in on my Dad’s death/ I wanted to vent ’stead (instead) I said nothing at all/ After all you were never kin to me/ Family is something that you never been to me/ In fact making it harder for me to see my father was the only thing that you ever did for me." Green tells BBC Radio 1Xtra, "All I spoke about was how my dad’s death affected me. I wasn’t trying to cash in on anything. I just thought it was incredibly insensitive. I’d already had two top fives and a number one album… All I said was that when that happened it was make or break for me. It was either going to affect me negatively or it was going to turn my life around. It did the latter. If anything, she should have been happy for me.
"She has no involvement in my life. She never has had. In this record I do address that. I also say a few things I never got to say to my dad. On the first album I touched on what happened with my father with Goodnight. It had a massive effect on my life."

PHISH STAGING BENEFIT SHOW IN HURRICANE-HIT VERMONT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

Rockers PHISH are staging a benefit show in their home state of Vermont to raise money for victims of Hurricane Irene.
The area was one of the hardest hit when the storm lashed America’s East Coast last month (Aug11), with small communities completely cut off after roads and bridges were washed away.
The members of Phish were left stunned by the images of devastation and they’re playing a gig in Essex Junction, Vermont on 14 September (11) to boost the relief fund.
In a post on their website, keyboardist Page McConnell writes, "It’s been heartbreaking to see all the loss and destruction that came from the storm.
"Vermont is very much a part of who we are as a band. We’re really looking forward to playing this show and we hope the money raised will make a difference in the recovery and rebuilding effort." And Connell is hoping the costs of staging the show will be covered - so they can donate all the proceeds to the clean-up effort.
He tells CNN affiliate WCAX, "These concerts are very expensive to put on… If we can get people to cover the expenses of putting on the concert, then we can give 100 per cent to the relief fund. We think it’s a really nice way to come back and give back to a state that has given us so much." Proceeds from the concert will be directed to Phish’s own charity, The WaterWheel Foundation, and The Vermont Community Foundation.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

SOULJA BOY’s management team has reacted to outrage at the star’s controversial song slamming army troops by vowing to scrap it from his upcoming album.
The hip-hop star sparked complaints after a clip of his track Let’s Be Real debuted online, showing him rapping the words, "F**k the FBI and the army troops… fighting for what? Be your own man…" The lyrics sparked a petition calling for a boycott of his forthcoming album Respect My Hustle, and bosses at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), which oversees merchandise sold on military bases, vowed not to stock the disc if the controversial track makes the final cut.
The rapper issued a grovelling apology on Tuesday (06Sep11), and now his representatives are trying to remove the video from the internet.
His spokesperson, Debby Coda, tells TMZ.com the track has not been approved for the album and will never be available for purchase, adding that Soulja Boy is willing to perform free shows for the military to apologise.

SALINGER TRUST WANTS LETTER REMOVED FROM WEBSITE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 pm

Trustees of legendary author J.D. SALINGER’s estate have threatened to launch legal action after a memorabilia dealer published a letter penned by the reclusive writer in 1957.
New York-based Gary Zimet posted the missive - in which Salinger discusses plans for a movie version of his classic novel The Catcher in the Rye - on his website more than a year ago.
But he has now received a notice from officials at Salinger’s trust demanding the removal of the letter, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix.
In the note, Salinger discusses his thoughts on any potential big-screen version of his famed 1951 book, writing, "Since there’s an ever-looming possibility that I won’t die rich, I toy very seriously with leaving the unsold rights to my wife and daughter as a kind of insurance policy. It pleasures me no end though, I might quickly add, to know that I won’t have to see the results of the transaction." In a letter obtained by PageSix editors, the author’s son Matt Salinger writes, "Any publication - even online - without express permission by my father and/or the Trust is a direct and clear infringement of my father’s, and now the Trust’s, intellectual property rights… We have referred this matter to our attorneys." Salinger died at the age of 91 in January, 2010, of natural causes.

BACH ACCUSES HASSELHOFF OF HAVING ‘OTHER’ WOMEN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

PAMELA BACH has taken aim at her former husband DAVID HASSELHOFF, accusing him of snubbing her in public and dating more than one woman.
The actress split from the former Baywatch star in 2006 after 16 years of marriage, but they’ve struggled to remain on friendly terms since their divorce.
Now Bach has hit out at her ex, claiming he has "other" women apart from his Welsh girlfriend Hayley Roberts and accusing him of ordering his aides to keep Bach away from him at public events.
She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, "We should (speak) because (our daughters) shouldn’t be put in the middle. At their recent T4 On The Beach concert (in the U.K.) he didn’t even say hello.
"I ran up to see my girls but before I got to them a woman who works with David stopped me and said: ‘David doesn’t want you around.’ I said: ‘Excuse me, sweetheart, I didn’t come here to see David, I came here to see my daughters.’… I admire him. He’s the father of my children and I will always love him for that. But he’s just not friendly to me right now." Asked her opinion of Roberts, Bach replies, "Which one? She’s the girl he’s showing to the press but I know there are others in America. It’s funny he did those Baywatch pictures with her, maybe he should do a shoot for something more current - Baywatch ended eight years ago (sic)."

ATKINSON FEELS ‘TOO OLD’ TO PLAY MR. BEAN AGAIN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

British actor ROWAN ATKINSON is refusing to resurrect his iconic character MR. BEAN, because he’s convinced he’s now too old to portray the bumbling fool.
The Johnny English star debuted the character on British TV in 1989 and the series continued until 1995, before it was adapted into two big screen versions.
But Atkinson is adamant he should say goodbye to Mr. Bean for good because he’s convinced he won’t be able to do the role justice.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mail, "I’ve got a feeling I probably won’t play the character (Mr. Bean) again. Never say never, but I just feel I’m getting too old for it.
"I’ve always liked Mr. Bean as a cartoon-like figure, who doesn’t really age much. I’ve always seen him as an ageless and timeless being and I’m clearly not ageless and timeless. The older I get, I feel I am less qualified to play him."

SOULJA BOY ‘SORRY’ FOR ANTI-ARMY LYRICS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:12 pm

Under-fire rapper SOULJA BOY has issued a grovelling apology to the U.S. military after insulting the army in a new song.
The hip-hop star released an online promo for his new track Let’s Be Real earlier this month (Sep11), and it emerged the song contains the line, "F**k the FBI and the army troops… fighting for what? Be your own man…" The lyrics attracted a storm of criticism from war veterans, and even prompted a retired army sergeant to record his own song slamming the star.
But Soulja Boy has now issued an apology for the slur, admitting he was "wrong to even speak" the words.
In a statement posted on GlobalGrind.com, he writes, "As an artist, I let my words get the best of me. Sometimes there are things that we feel, things that we want to express, and when we put them on paper and speak them out loud, they can come out wrong.
"When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them. So, I write this to give my sincerest apology to all members of the United States military services, as well as their families that were offended by my most recent lyrics.
"As a young man who grew up in the post-9/11 era, I have watched our country fight two wars that seem like they are never going to end. I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what? A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and I think a lot about what if we had never gone to war. Where would our economy be? Our schools, our after-school and work programs, our streets?…
"In no way would I ever want to offend those who are protecting our freedoms… a lot of homeboys who I grew up with, a lot of people who come from the neighborhoods we live in… In no way do I want to hurt any of our honorable soldiers who put their lives at risk, regardless of how they feel about the two wars we fight in.
"I am just frustrated that we haven’t been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me. I am deeply sorry."
