Actress RICKI LAKE was treated by medics on Thursday (08Sep11) after she picked up an injury during rehearsals for the new season of DANCING WITH THE STARS.
The Hairspray star and former talk show host is competing on the U.S. series alongside David Arquette, Cher’s son Chaz Bono and George Clooney’s ex-girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis.
She has now become the first celebrity to be injured during the new season after hurting her shin while practising with dance partner Derek Hough.
In a series of posts on Twitter.com, alongside an image of her bruised leg, she writes, "Look, my first injury… Don’t ask how it happened… Not sure how my bruise turned into a medic showing up? I’m fine!!"

Almost 160 potential jurors have already been screened for the upcoming involuntary manslaughter trial of MICHAEL JACKSON’s personal physician DR. CONRAD MURRAY after selection got underway in Los Angeles on Thursday (08Sep11).
The trial, which is set to begin later this month (Sep11), is expected to last at least five weeks.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, who will oversee the case, took time during the selection to caution members of the public to refrain from expressing their feelings about the case in the presence of jurors.
On Wednesday (07Sep11), officials at an appeals court affirmed Pastor’s decision not to sequester the jury.
The judge recently denied the defence lawyers’ request to keep the jury members away from TV commentary outside the courtroom, insisting he had faith in the jurors’ ability to follow instructions about avoiding media coverage.
Dr. Murray is accused of administering the anaesthetic that killed Jackson in 2009. He has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

GWYNETH PALTROW has chronicled her 48 hours at the Venice Film Festival in Italy over Labor Day weekend (03-04Sep11) in a new journal on her Goop.com blog.
Her ‘Scrapbook from the Venice Film Festival’, where she attended the world premiere of her new movie Contagion, features details of the "jam-packed happenings" and recipes from the Hotel Cipriani, where the actress stayed.
She recalls arriving in Italy late and starving and ordering "a perfect Spaghetti Pomodoro".
Paltrow also chronicles a "boat chase" as she and her castmates attempted to avoid the paparazzi on their way to a press conference at the Casino on the Lido.
The actress admits most reporters were interested in the hygiene of the stars.
She writes, "Yes, this movie made us wash our hands more often." Paltrow also recalls fighting jet lag and revisiting the "same pier as the one at the end of The Talented Mr. Ripley" with Matt Damon, her co-star in that film and Contagion. She also explains that the premiere was the first chance she had to see the new Steven Soderbergh movie, about a pandemic outbreak.
The weekend in Italy ended on a sour note as her flight was delayed and she didn’t get home until 8am for the school run.

The fan who tried to steal a kiss from SARAH JESSICA PARKER in Russia last week (01Sep11) is in big trouble with his wife.
Parker was visiting the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow when security guard Oleg Donstov offered to take the beauty inside for an up-close view of the venue, which was closed to the public due to renovations.
After the tour, Donstov ripped open his shirt and leaned in to kiss the actress, much to Parker’s dismay.
Donstov immediately expressed his regret in not acting as a true "professional", and now his amorous actions have landed him in hot water with his wife, who saw the whole thing unravel on camera.
Parker is now trying to remedy the couple’s marital issues by assuring the woman the kiss was harmless.
Recalling the ordeal during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday (07Sep11), Parker said, "The guard was slightly abusive (physical) but I kind of understood that this was kind of the quid pro quo of the situation. So we came back out (of the Theatre)… and there were some paparazzi there. He became rather boastful and he ripped open his shirt… and he had a pen and he wanted me to sign his chest. And then he went in for a big kiss. And I just squealed like a lady and just ran.
"It was videotaped, and his wife saw it and their marriage is in trouble. It’s the truth. His marriage is in trouble! "And I had no means (of) communicating with this lady. I don’t know her name, so I issued a statement that was like, you know, ‘No harm, no foul. We understand each other. (It was) all in good fun.’"

STEVIE NICKS, PAUL ANKA and CHRIS ISAAK were among the stars who came together for a 75th birthday tribute to late rock ‘n’ roller BUDDY HOLLY in Hollywood on Wednesday night (07Sep11).
Members of Cobra Starship, Boz Scaggs, Lyle Lovett and Graham Nash also performed, while Holly’s widow Maria Elena and Priscilla Presley were among those who offered up anecdotes at the Music Box Theater celebration, which was organised by singer Peter Asher.
The concert, which featured tracks from new tribute album Listen to Me, was filmed for a U.S. TV special, which will air in December (11).
Asher and Isaak co-hosted the celebration, which featured video greetings from Holly superfans Brian Wilson, Keith Richards, Ringo Starr and Jackson Browne.
Nicks performed Not Fade Away and It’s So Easy; Lovett offered renditions of Well… All Right and I’m Looking for Someone to Love; Nash covered Raining in My Heart and Take Your Time with Asher, and Rave On with Scaggs and Asher.
Other highlights included Michelle Branch and Chris Isaak’s duet on Heartbeat, Gabe Saporta and Victoria Asher of Cobra Starship’s take on Peggy Sue, and Paul Anka’s I Guess It Doesn’t Matter Anymore.
The evening closed with a jam of That’ll Be The Day led by Everly Brothers star Phil Everly.

Bollywood icon AMITABH BACHCHAN is set to make his Hollywood debut in LEONARDO DiCAPRIO’s new movie THE GREAT GATSBY.
The veteran Indian actor has landed a role in the big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic tale, as Meyer Wolfsheim - a Jewish man with a penchant for gambling.
Production on the film recently began in Australia, and director Baz Luhrmann is overjoyed to welcome Bachchan to the set.
The filmmaker says, "(I am) personally thrilled that one of the world’s greatest screen legends, Amitabh Bachchan, is joining the cast.
"Over the years, Amitabh’s films have made a tremendous impression on my life and work. His film Sholay was my introduction to Indian cinema."

Italian model ELISABETTA CANALIS has broken her silence about her split from GEORGE CLOONEY, insisting she’s still going through "a difficult time", more than two months after their break up.
Clooney and Canalis announced they had parted as lovers in June (11), thus ending a two-year romance.
The brunette beauty kept a low profile in Europe as she battled her heartbreak, but she is now preparing to step back into the spotlight as a competitor on the new season of hit U.S. TV show, Dancing With the Stars, and she’s finally opening up about the breakdown of her romance with Clooney, revealing she blames herself for the split.
In an interview with Italy’s Chi magazine, she says, "At the end of the day I have always seen the end of my relationships as a personal failure. There is nothing ever pretty in saying goodbye." But Canalis claims she has since found inner peace in Hollywood.
She continues, "The end of a relationship is complicated. I went to the United States, because at the moment I could no longer face the world (sic). Watching my life being dissected was not easy for me.
"Here in Los Angeles I have found serenity. I’ve also found work. It was a difficult time for me, but you have to get on with things." Ironically, Canalis is now competing on the show which once featured Clooney’s new girlfriend, former wrestler Stacy Keibler.

New Orleans, Louisiana music legend WARDELL QUEZERGUE has died of congestive heart failure.
He passed away on Tuesday (06Sep11) at the age of 81.
Paying tribute to his late friend, celebrated composer Allen Toussaint tells the Associated Press, "What a mark he made. In fact, what several marks he made. He was just a magnificent man in every way. He was a superb musician and bandleader. He always inspired the best out of people who were playing with him." Quezergue was best known for his arrangement of Iko Iko for the Dixie Cups and Jean Knight’s soul classic Mr. Big Stuff.
He was a big part of New Orleans’ post-Hurricane Katrina clean-up after his home was destroyed by the 2005 storm.

OZZY OSBOURNE was gifted a special metal cross made from the World Trade Center rubble in the weeks following the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
The Black Sabbath frontman was staying at a New York City hotel when hijackers crashed two planes into the Big Apple landmark on September 11, 2001.
And to mark the 10th anniversary of the tragedy, rock matriarch Sharon opened up about her personal recollection of the events while hosting her U.S. TV show The Talk on Thursday (08Sep11), during which she revealed all about the prized possession Ozzy received from a team of courageous firefighters.
She said, "That morning we went downstairs for breakfast. The kids and I. And we’re in the dining room and there was Major Bloomberg… And then all of these men came and whispered in his ear… And he went off… And then we go upstairs, (and we’re) watching the news and then we see what the whole world saw.
"You can’t take like, this, ‘Oh poor me, I’m so scared.’ I was blessed that I had my family with me. But it leaves you totally numb. And to think now… 10 years later, it’s still going on because our men and women from all over the world, not just here (in America), are still fighting.
"I can remember the day that it happened; we went up to the roof of the hotel and we were looking down 5th Avenue. There was nothing. There was nobody. There were no birds. There was nothing. It was silent. And that silence is terrifying.
"We got out of New York… and drove back to L.A.. And driving across the country it was unbelievable, just that same eerie silence." But Ozzy couldn’t stop thinking about the devastated people back on the East Coast and returned two weeks later to play a concert for the firemen and first responders - and his selfless act was graciously received.
She added, "They made him this cross, which is made of one of the girdles from the South Tower. And when they gave it to him, it was two weeks later, literally, this isn’t an exaggeration, it was still warm (from the burning)."

INSANE CLOWN POSSE star VIOLENT J has become a victim of burglary - his car stereo was stolen on Wednesday (07Sep11).
The horror rapper, real name Joseph Bruce, claims he left his vehicle unattended for a mere 10 minutes to stop at a store in Detroit, Michigan, when a thief ripped out the sound system and ran off with the stolen goods.
But according to TMZ.com, Violent J has decided against reporting the incident to police because he was the one responsible for leaving his car door unlocked.

Mystery surrounds the future of rockers AFI after the band’s management denied reports of a split just hours after frontman DAVEY HAVOK announced the break-up online.
Havok took to the band’s Despairfaction forum to let fans know the group was splitting.
The Love Like Winter singer’s written statement read, "This is the end. Sorry, but AFI is done. After more than 15 years of being together, we as a band have decided to disband AFI… There will be no more AFI albums or shows.
"We have matured and have other things in life that we would like to attend to. Please forgive us for the random statement but it was something we were thinking of for a while." Havok then indicated a more detailed explanation was to come.
But the band’s management insist the statement was a hoax and AFI have no immediate plans to split.

The movie executives behind the TWILIGHT films have filed suit against the owner of a fansite over his alleged unauthorised use of copyrighted material.
Summit Entertainment bosses claim Twilight.com’s Tom Markson has been "posting links" to download Twilight recordings and unauthorised Twilight contests.
The movie bosses served a cease and desist order to Markson in April, 2009, according to the court documents obtained by EOnline.com, but he denied the claims against him.
Lawyers for Summit allege he generated revenue from the company’s intellectual property through advertising and sponsored links.

British actress KATE WINSLET has been transformed into her heroine ELIZABETH TAYLOR for a new magazine photoshoot.
The Titanic star channels Taylor, who died in March (11), in a series of snaps shot by famed photographer Mario Testino for W magazine’s Heroes Issue.
The spread sees Winslet morphed into an uncanny likeness of the Cleopatra icon, as she dons headscarves, turbans and Harry Winston and Chanel gems.

LIONEL RICHIE has halted recording of his new album and pulled out of a star-studded concert in London after falling ill.
The Dancing on the Ceiling hitmaker was due to headline BBC Radio 2’s Live In Hyde Park gig on Sunday (11Sep11), alongside other stars including Lenny Kravitz and Will Young.
But Richie has been battling illness, and has decided to postpone his recording sessions and drop out of the line-up for the show in order to recover.
BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans told listeners of his morning show on Thursday (08Sep11), "Due to illness, Lionel Richie will not be able to perform at Hyde Park as billed…
"As much as Lionel is distressed at cancelling this show for his fans and Radio 2, he would never allow himself to give less than 100 per cent excellence in performance.
"We talked to him in America yesterday, he said, ‘I’m sorry that I wont be able to make the concert on Sunday’. He was recording his new album, that’s also had to stop as well." In a statement, Richie adds, "The show has a fantastic line up and I was looking forward to joining the other artists on what promises to be a fabulous day of entertainment. To all the fans that bought tickets I promise to be back very soon and make up for it with something very special."

A woman suing MADONNA over noise levels at their New York apartment block has been given the go-ahead by a judge to pursue legal action.
Karen George filed suit against the Material Girl in 2009, claiming the singer and her guests would spend up to three hours a day dancing to "high-decibel amplified music" and creating a "pounding noise and vibration".
She claims Madonna breached noise levels at the residential building in Manhattan and is demanding damages from the star.
On Wednesday (07Sep11), Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Louis York refused Madonna’s request to have the suit dismissed, giving George permission to pursue the case.
He said, "One of the most basic functions of a residence is to provide shelter from the outside world for its occupants to think, interact and relax in peace. If the noise caused by Madonna’s activities prevented (George) from being able to use her apartment for these purposes, then the warrant of habitability has been breached." Madonna no longer lives in the building. A spokeswoman for the star tells the New York Daily News, "She has always been a wonderful neighbour and has lived there for over two decades in complete compliance to all rules of the building."

U2 frontman BONO paid a visit to one of Britain’s top politicians in London on Wednesday (07Sep11) to discuss his charity.
The Irish rocker showed up at The Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne’s residence at 11 Downing Street in the British capital to chat about his anti-poverty foundation.
The star’s associate tells Britain’s Daily Telegraph, "The meeting had been in the diary for some time. Bono wanted to raise issues relating to his ONE Foundation."

Officials in Los Angeles declared Wednesday (07Sep11) BUDDY HOLLY DAY as his widow unveiled his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The late rock ‘n’ roll icon would have turned 75 on Wednesday and to mark the milestone, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce chiefs awarded him the 2,447th star.
Holly’s widow Maria Elena accepted the prize, which is located outside the Capitol Records building on Hollywood Boulevard.
Pete Asher, Phil Everly and Gary Busey, who played the musician on film, paid tribute to the Peggy Sue hitmaker during the ceremony.
