STAGE COLLAPSE DRAMAS WOULD HAVE PROMPTED GROHL TO PULL LOLLAPALOOZA SLOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:18 pm

FOO FIGHTERS star DAVE GROHL would have pulled his group’s stormy Lollapalooza festival show if it had followed stage collapse disasters in Indiana and Belgium.
The rocker and his bandmates appeared fearless as they performed in the torrential rain at the Chicago, Illinois music event in early August (11) - but Grohl admits he would have thought twice about the gig if it had been a few weeks later.
In total, 12 people were killed when stages at the Indiana State Fair and Belgium’s Pukkelpop festivals collapsed in mid-August (11).
Grohl says, "Had the other s**t happened before that (Lollapalooza), I would have been gone.
"I don’t know if it’s the stages or Mother Nature is just p**sed at rock ‘n’ roll, but it’s a legitimate concern."

CLIFF RICHARD COPYRIGHT LAW PASSED BY EUROPEAN UNION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:15 pm

SIR CLIFF RICHARD is celebrating after winning a new royalties battle that will extend copyright laws for songwriters.
On Monday (12Sep11), members of the European Union Council voted in favour of the Saviour’s Day singer’s proposal to give composers an extra 25 years to benefit from their musical creations.
As a result, the copyright on sound recordings has been extended from 50 to 70 years.
Under the 50-year rule, the copyright on songs by Richard, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and The Who would have expired in the next few years, allowing anyone to use the songs in any way - and the performers and record labels would have ceased to receive royalties.
Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger tells the BBC that the EU’s decision was "obviously advantageous" to musicians, adding, "Obviously the record business is not what it was, so people don’t earn as much as they used to. (The royalties) can extend their lives and the lives of their families who inherit their songs." Abba star Bjorn Ulvaeus was also thrilled by the ruling, stating, "Now I won’t have to see Abba being used in a TV commercial."

The Sunset Beach star says, "I have to go and shoot my part of the film in two weeks, which will be very close to the birth, and the only reasons the doctor’s letting me go is because they (producers) will have a helicopter on set ready."

Tennis ace SERENA WILLIAMS has been fined $2,000 (GBP1,250) for verbally lashing out against an umpire at the U.S. Open during her match on Sunday (11Sep11).

The remarks were captured on camera and went viral, prompting bosses at the Tournament Grand Slam Committee to launch an investigation into the incident and review the star’s behaviour.

It’s not the first time her temper has landed her in trouble in New York - Williams was fined $82,500 (GBP51,500) for a foul-mouthed tirade during her 2009 semi-final defeat by Kim Clijsters.

OWNERS OF JACKSON DEATH HOUSE SUE MAP SELLER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:54 am

The owners of the home MICHAEL JACKSON was renting when he died in 2009 is suing a woman who sells maps of Beverly Hills’ celebrity estates outside their property.
Hubert and Roxanne Guez claim Linda Welton’s booming streetside map business is stopping them from selling the North Carolwood Drive home.
In court documents obtained by TMZ.com, they write, "Potential buyers are bothered upon approach by the quite visible and annoying constant illegal stopping and/or parking of cars in front of the home on what otherwise would be a quiet residential street." The Guezes claim the property value has plummeted because of the stream of traffic, Welton’s lawn chair, coolers and large patio umbrella, and the illegally parked cars. They also allege Linda is violating the law by essentially having a newsstand on a street corner.
But the map seller insists her mother has already won a lawsuit giving her the right to sell the maps.

NEW PORNOGRAPHERS UPSET ABOUT POLITICAL CAMPAIGN SONG USE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:54 am

Cult indie rockers THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS have taken aim at Canadian politician TIM HUDAK for using one of their songs on the campaign trail without their permission.
The leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative party has been using the band’s Moves track at rallies - and singer A.C. Newman is far from happy.
In an angry tweet on Wednesday (07Sep11), the frontman raged, "Tim Hudak, who told you it was cool to use my song in your political campaign?" He later joked, "Tim Hudak appears to be a fan of ‘pornographers.’ Is that the kind of man you want representing you and your children, Ontario?" Newman added, "Putting politics aside, someone used 1 of our songs for their own public purposes and did not ask for our permission." He’s not the only rocker upset to hear his songs used at right-wing rallies - Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Joe Walsh and Don Henley have all taken issue at politicians using their tracks as anthems without permission.
