JURY SELECTION FOR JACKSON MANSLAUGHTER TRIAL BEGINS IN LOS ANGELES
Almost 160 potential jurors have already been screened for the upcoming involuntary manslaughter trial of MICHAEL JACKSON’s personal physician DR. CONRAD MURRAY after selection got underway in Los Angeles on Thursday (08Sep11).
The trial, which is set to begin later this month (Sep11), is expected to last at least five weeks.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, who will oversee the case, took time during the selection to caution members of the public to refrain from expressing their feelings about the case in the presence of jurors.
On Wednesday (07Sep11), officials at an appeals court affirmed Pastor’s decision not to sequester the jury.
The judge recently denied the defence lawyers’ request to keep the jury members away from TV commentary outside the courtroom, insisting he had faith in the jurors’ ability to follow instructions about avoiding media coverage.
Dr. Murray is accused of administering the anaesthetic that killed Jackson in 2009. He has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
