GREEN: ‘I’M NOT CASHING IN ON DAD’S DEATH’

British rapper PROFESSOR GREEN has used his new track to hit back at comments made by his stepmother accusing him of "cashing in" on his father’s death.
The I Need You Tonight hitmaker’s dad Peter split from his biological mum shortly after his birth and committed suicide in 2008.
Green wrote about their fractured relationship and his heartache for a song on his debut album Goodnight, leading his stepmum Jackie to accuse him of using the death to promote his career.
Green, real name Stephen Manderson, has now opened up about her claims on forthcoming single Read All About It, in which he sings, "Saying I tried to cash in on my Dad’s death/ I wanted to vent ’stead (instead) I said nothing at all/ After all you were never kin to me/ Family is something that you never been to me/ In fact making it harder for me to see my father was the only thing that you ever did for me." Green tells BBC Radio 1Xtra, "All I spoke about was how my dad’s death affected me. I wasn’t trying to cash in on anything. I just thought it was incredibly insensitive. I’d already had two top fives and a number one album… All I said was that when that happened it was make or break for me. It was either going to affect me negatively or it was going to turn my life around. It did the latter. If anything, she should have been happy for me.
"She has no involvement in my life. She never has had. In this record I do address that. I also say a few things I never got to say to my dad. On the first album I touched on what happened with my father with Goodnight. It had a massive effect on my life."
