CONTOSTAVLOS EYES EARLY RETIREMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:11 pm

British singer TULISA CONTOSTAVLOS wants an early retirement - she plans to bow out of the spotlight when she reaches her "peak".
The 23 year old shot to fame as a member of hip-hop group N-Dubz and has seen her profile skyrocket after joining the judging panel of hit U.K. TV talent show The X Factor.
But Contostavlos insists she’ll hang up her microphone for good when she has enough money to comfortably raise a family.
She tells Britain’s Sunday Times Style magazine, "If anything (fame) will make me want to get out of it sooner rather than later. I’m loving this opportunity, but I’m not one of these people who want to do this for ever. It’s too much. It’s not the real world.
"I want to be able to have enough money to set up a future for my family. I want a business, something for my children. I want to get to my peak, and when I get to my peak, I want to go out with a bang."

WESTENRA OPENS UP ABOUT FOOD ISSUES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:11 pm

Classical singer HAYLEY WESTENRA has opened up about the "breakdown" she suffered in 2009 after an extreme diet caused her weight to plummet.
The 24-year-old soprano reveals she began obsessing over her meals while on the road touring, away from her family and friends.
She tells Britain’s Seven magazine, "(A) breakdown… That’s what I thought I was going through. I told my family, ‘That’s it, the end.’ I saw a picture and I thought I looked full of puppy fat. It’s hard when you see lots of photos of yourself. You can say, ‘I’m happy with my curves’, but as a girl you’re going to be a bit self-conscious…
"Food was a thing to focus on. I got into the habit of not eating much. I’d buy fruit, some salad and almonds and be eating nothing really. It’s terrible, but you get used to it after a while. I know that’s not healthy because I was eating just boiled vegetables, nuts and seeds and it was terrible. I just got into the habit of saying no to things, no to food… I think I would have been a U.S. size zero." Westenra took a turn for the worse after contracting bronchitis at the end of 2008, prompting her to call off her 2009 tour dates and leading to a "vicious cycle" of scoffing sweets.
She recalls, "I got really depressed. I convinced myself that I could never go back. Usually if I’m ill I eat healthy food, but (instead) I thought, ‘I don’t want to go back on stage, I want to eat ice cream and chocolate biscuits.’ "Most of the time I was walking around the house, hoodie up, eating all the naughty things that were in the house. I couldn’t help myself. I couldn’t stop. It was as if I didn’t want to get better, I didn’t want to be able to perform. I became self-destructive and it was a vicious cycle. You’re tired, you eat really bad food, you feel worse, then you eat more. I wasn’t sleeping." But after the death of two close friends, the star admits she began to re-evaluate her life and career.
She explains, "I rediscovered my passion for performance. I realised how important singing was for me. To do a show, to get the applause. New (tour) dates were confirmed and I thought, ‘That’s it. I’m going to get my act together.’"

However, her latest body art has prompted a backlash on her Twitter.com page, with Cyrus confronting one furious fan.
The pop star wrote, "Where does it say in the bible to judge others? Oh right. It doesn’t. GOD is the only judge honey. GOD is love." However, when Cyrus’ supporters turned on the person who angered the singer, she attempted to play peacemaker by posting, "Everyone is entitled to opinions! if you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything." In June (11), New York officials passed a bill to legalise gay unions across the state.

MIRREN FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR PRIME SUSPECT ROLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:23 pm

British actress DAME HELEN MIRREN fears she would have been left on the acting scrap heap if she hadn’t landed the lead role in U.K. TV hit PRIME SUSPECT.
The star was hired to play tough female detective Jane Tennison in the 1990s cop series when she was 46, and is adamant the show helped her survive in the industry when many of her peers were struggling to find work.
She tells Good Housekeeping magazine, "I don’t know if it’s too few parts or too few actresses. It’s a difficult time in a woman’s career and I’ve seen that with many brilliant colleagues who started out the same time as me. They were very successful during their 30s and I’m talking now about very successful theatre actresses with an incredible history of experience, not somebody who did a TV show in their teens.
"But suddenly in their 40s and 50s there seems to be less and less work for them and it seems to be more difficult to earn a living as an actress. I was so lucky that I had Prime Suspect to get me through that. Because of it I got asked to do movies and could have a theatre presence, and here I am still in the business so to speak."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:20 pm

Singer/songwriter JOHN GRANT was able to obtain a last-minute U.S. passport last month (Jul11) after flashing a front-page newspaper picture of himself to American Embassy staff.
The former The Czars star picked up the Best Live Act trophy at the Mojo Awards in London on 21 July (11), and was set to jet to Verona, Italy for a gig the following day, but misplaced his passport.
However, his award win helped him prove his identity to embassy employees after he showed a newspaper photo of himself at the ceremony.
He explains, "Luckily I was on the cover of The Times that morning. When I showed that to the security guard, he said ‘Well, that’s good enough for me.’ "In about a half hour I was on my way back to the airport to catch a later flight to Verona and ended up making our stage time, so it all worked out really well."

CHISHOLM TAKES AIM AT SEXY POP STARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:20 pm

MELANIE CHISHOLM has criticised singers LADY GAGA and KATY PERRY for their overtly sexual performances, insisting their raunchy routines set a bad example for young fans.
Chisholm, who shot to fame as a member of the Spice Girls, admits she’s stunned by the current crop of chart-toppers and their provocative images.
And the British star is convinced it’s possible for a female singer to be successful without flaunting too much flesh.
She says, "It sends the wrong message to teenage girls. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Britney Spears have great voices and don’t need to take their clothes off. Young fans can be impressionable. Sometimes people go a little too far.
"Sex has always been sold. It seems that now it has become very prevalent in pop music."

MORTIMER’S LOVE LETTER TO NEW YORK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:14 pm

British actress EMILY MORTIMER has dedicated a love letter to her adopted New York City - despite often feeling "harassed, sick and oppressed" in the Big Apple.
The London-born star, who has dual American and British nationality, lives in Brooklyn but admits the chaos in Manhattan frequently drives her crazy.
In a column for U.K. magazine Tatler, she writes, "The infrastructure is lame. Dreadful roads full of potholes that never get filled in, and lawless taxi drivers who are never stopped by the cops and are constantly furious because they have been driving other furious people about.
"I get hurled about in the back, never altogether sure that this isn’t my last minute on Earth." But Mortimer insists her opinion of New York is always revived when she catches a glimpse of the city’s iconic skyline.
She adds, "Feeling harassed, sick, oppressed and like I might not have the strength to survive much more of this, I approach the Brooklyn Bridge to get to Manhattan and whatever pointless or scary, or pointless AND scary, meeting I might have there… and BOOM. There it is. The island rising out of the water.
"Just surviving New York is somehow magically the same as thriving in New York."

VON TRIER SICKENED BY NORWEGIAN EXTREMIST’S PRAISE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:14 pm

Danish director LARS VON TRIER feels "excessively sick" his movie DOGVILLE was named by the suspect held over the Norway massacres as one of his favourite films.
Norwegian right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik has claimed he is responsible for killing 77 people in terrorist attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utoya last month (Jul11).
The 32 year old listed Von Trier’s 2003 drama, which stars Nicole Kidman, as one of his top three movies on his Facebook.com profile.
Now Von Trier admits he fears the film’s final violent scene, in which gangsters brutally murder an entire town, may have inspired Breivik’s shooting spree on Utoya.
He tells Denmark’s Politiken newspaper, "It makes me excessively sick when I think that Dogville - for me my best film - could have been used as a sort of script for him. It’s horrible.
"The last scene of Dogville bears painful similarities with Utoya. You’re asking me if I’m sad for having made this film? Yes, if it’s proved to have inspired him, I’m sorry for having made it."
