Rapper ROYCE DA 5′9" had to resort to trickery to secure a beat from legendary producer DJ PREMIER for his new album - because the hip-hop icon always keeps his clients waiting.
The Lighters star has been collaborating with Premier for years and turned to the beatmaker once again as he worked on his fifth solo release, Success Is Certain.
But instead of calling on the producer at the start of the project, Royce held off until his deadline loomed - so Premier would have no choice but to get working on a track for immediate delivery.
The result was Second Place - and the rapper is planning on using the same cheeky tactic next time around.
Royce tells WENN, "DJ Premier: Mr Late himself. It’s always worth the wait when he finally does something, but everything I’ve ever done with Preem has involved some type of a wait…
"He didn’t make me wait that long (for Success Is Certain). He was actually thorough with this album, but you know what? I tricked him. I reached out to him at the very, very end - the deadline. ‘Yo man, I got this deadline!’ So he went and made something kinda fast.
"I was actually kinda surprised, so I figured out how to get a beat from Preem in a timely fashion! You have to wait until you’re almost finished and then he’s the last song you need to close up the album, or you gonna miss the release date! I’m gonna use it ’til it runs out! Next album I’m gonna do the same thing." Royce Da 5′9" managed to meet his record label deadline and the album was released on schedule last week (09Aug11).

Pop stars HANSON have yet to meet the real KATY PERRY after spending a day with her latest awkward alter-ego on a video set.
The trio played the house band in Perry’s Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) promo - but the pop star spent the day as her bespectacled high school geek Kathy Beth Terry.
Hanson star Isaac Hanson tells WENN, "We get a call from Katy Perry’s people, saying, ‘Hey, we’re casting for this upcoming video and Katy really thinks that you guys would be perfect for this; you guys would be a band in the yard for the house party.’ "Then Katy called and talked to Taylor and we felt like it was gonna be fun… It was. But she was definitely enjoying the character she was playing. She was fully in high school, awkward mode.
"Technically, we didn’t get to meet the real Katy Perry but she did send us a really nice note afterwards and was very kind. I imagine that won’t be our last opportunity to say hello and hang out with her."

Rockers VAMPIRE WEEKEND have settled a dispute with the former model who graced the cover of their CONTRA album.
Last year (10), Ann Kirsten Kennis sued the band, record label XL Recordings and photographer Tod Brody for $2 million (£1.25 million), claiming that she never gave permission for her likeness to be used.
Brody was allegedly paid for licensing the image for the album, but Kennis alleged he forged the model-release signature.
The initial case has now been dismissed after the four parties agreed to settle for an undisclosed amount.
Vampire Weekend and XL executives have also filed suit against Brody, insisting he’s responsible for any liability.

RICKY MARTIN has dismissed suggestions his romance with Latino TV presenter REBECCA DE ALBA was little more than an experiment to test his once-secret homosexuality, insisting the romance was "very real".
The Livin’ La Vida Loca singer came out as a gay man last year (10) after a decade of speculation about his sexuality, which was addled by his on/off romance with De Alba.
In a new VH1 Behind The Music special about the star, Martin admits he really was in love with the TV personality and she reveals she never suspected her boyfriend was gay.
He says, "Sometimes you can’t explain what it is exactly that attracts you to someone, that amazing magnetism.
"Everything that I felt at that moment was pure. A lot of people might say, ‘Well, you were trying to justify yourself; maybe you were trying to prove yourself…’ It is complicated… but, at that moment, it felt real; it felt amazing."

Broadway’s SPIDER-MAN, REEVE CARNEY, is set to come down to earth to portray cult singer/songwriter JEFF BUCKLEY in a new biopic.
Carney, who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Turn Off The Dark, has signed to Jake Scott’s film about the tragic star.
Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert has reportedly signed on as an executive producer.
The film will be loosely adapted from David Browne’s book Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley.
The singer drowned in Tennessee in 1997 at the age of 30.
Buckley’s mother says, "We are over the moon that Reeve has agreed to take on this challenging role. I’ve seen him perform several times… he’s been getting ready for this all his life. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he looks so much like Jeff."

French actress ISABELLE HUPPERT will be honoured for her career achievements at this year’s (11) Stockholm Film Festival in Sweden.
The La Ceremonie star has been selected as the recipient of the Bronze Horse award, joining previous honourees Lauren Bacall and directors David Lynch and Roman Polanski.
The 22nd annual event is due to run from 9 to 20 November (11), reports trade paper Daily Variety.

RESERVOIR DOGS star STEVE BUSCEMI has learned not to get drunk while on location after a 1998 bar brawl in North Carolina almost cost him his life.
The actor was out drinking with Domestic Disturbance co-star Vince Vaughn when locals turned on the drunk stars and a nasty fight broke out.
Buscemi was left with knife wounds to the head and neck, but he isn’t holding any grudges - he’s blaming the whole thing on the alcohol.
He tells Playboy magazine, "Too much alcohol got consumed that night - by everybody, me included. They were local people; we were outsiders.
"I don’t remember what was said or how it started. I only know that if I hadn’t been drinking, I would not have gotten into any trouble.
"I had a plastic surgeon fix me up and went on from there."

Actress TARA REID has wed businessman MICHAEL LILLEUND in Greece, just hours after the pair became engaged.
The American Pie star has been dating the Danish entrepreneur since November (10). They met on vacation in Saint-Tropez, France.
On Saturday (13Aug11), Reid announced via Twitter.com that Lilleund had proposed to her, writing, "I just got engaged!" And just hours later the star revealed they had rushed down the aisle: "Just got married in greece (sic) I love being a wife."

Singer/actress HILARY DUFF and her husband MIKE COMRIE have marked their first wedding anniversary by announcing they are expecting their first child.
The Cheaper By The Dozen star, 23, wed ice hockey player Comrie, 30, last summer (10) and they have wasted no time in starting a family.
In a post on her website on Sunday (14Aug11), she writes, "I can’t believe it has already been a year, time really flies when you’re having fun! "We also want to share the exciting news that… BABY MAKES THREE!!! We are extremely happy and ready to start this new chapter of our lives." Rap superstar 50 CENT is desperate to storm the charts with an unlikely collaboration with British pop singer ROBBIE WILLIAMS.
The In Da Club hitmaker is a big fan of the Angels hitmaker and reveals they have already talked about the possibility of hitting the studio together.

RIHANNA was left baffled when she first met BATTLESHIP director PETER BERG - because he assumed she already knew he’d cast her as the star of the new action film.
The singing superstar was expecting just a meeting with the filmmaker, but he bombarded her with special effects and designs of aliens.
She says, "It’s weird how it happened. I walked into a meeting… and usually my manager would be there to prep me and say, ‘OK, this is what we’re doing, this is who we’re meeting, this is why we’re doing this meeting…’ She wasn’t there.
"I walked in and all I saw were these little alien mock-ups, these little dolls. MICHAEL JACKSON’s three young children are planning to make a speech in honour of their late father at a memorial concert in October (11).
The King of Pop’s mother, Katherine, is organising Michael Forever, The Tribute Concert, which will be held in the superstar’s memory on 8 October (11) in Cardiff, Wales.
Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Leona Lewis are among the artists set to perform, and the event will also host three special guests - Jackson’s children.
A representative for the Jackson family tells TMZ.com, "Paris, Blanket and Prince have been asked to attend the MJ Tribute in Wales and they have decided to go.
"They are extremely excited and they’re hoping they will have the opportunity to contribute in some way by making a speech. Nothing has been set in stone yet for how they can help, but they really hope they can."

CHRIS MARTIN constantly worries about the future of COLDPLAY and insists each album feels like the band’s last.
The British group has released four hit records, and the fifth, Mylo Xyloto, is set to hit stores in October (11), but Martin admits he is struggling to envisage a sixth offering.
He tells Billboard, "I always feel like each record is our last, but at the moment I’m in the stage where I really mean it.
"I just can’t imagine how we would do another one, because we’ve thrown everything. When it’s finished… we won’t have been able to put more work into it, which I guess is the only thing we can really do." However, Martin felt the same after the band’s fourth album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends - and it took producer Brian Eno to convince the group to record again.
Martin adds, "When we finished the last record Viva La Vida, we were all feeling pretty pleased with ourselves when it was, like, number one or whatever. Then Brian Eno wrote to us and said, ‘Dear Coldplay. I really think we’ve made a good record here. But I do think we can do a lot better, and I feel we all need to get back to work as soon as possible’."

Australian singer RENEE GEYER has been fined after pleading guilty to two charges of careless driving.
The jazz/soul star crashed her car into a shop in Melbourne in November, 2010, and just months later, in February (11), she collided with another vehicle and a tree in St Kilda.
Her lawyer claimed Geyer lost concentration on both occasions because of a hormone drug she was taking for breast cancer therapy, following her diagnosis in 2009.
The singer was charged with careless driving, and on Friday (12Aug11) she pleaded guilty at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
Geyer was ordered to hand over $500 (£333) to a cancer charity and was allowed to keep her licence.
Speaking outside court, Geyer told reporters she was "very happy" with the outcome.

Country duo SUGARLAND and singer SARA BAREILLES have escaped unscathed after a powerful storm caused the stage at the Indiana State Fair to collapse on Saturday night (13Aug11), killing four people.
The tragic event, which occurred as fans waited for Sugarland to perform, followed an announcement by concerned organisers who warned that a storm was advancing.
It’s claimed the dust bowl smashed into the scaffolding and rigging, raining steel and dirt into the terrified audience. Winds were estimated between 60 and 70 miles-per-hour (96 to 112 kilometres-per-hour).
Four people died during the tragedy and 40 people were injured - many of them from the VIP section near the stage. Indiana State Police Sergeant Dave Bursten added that some of those injured were in "very serious" condition and conceded it was a "very likely possibility" that the death toll could mount.
Sunday’s (14Aug11) activities have been scrapped, but the fair is expected to resume on Monday (15Aug11) with a service to honour the victim’s of Saturday’s disaster. The Indiana State fair runs until 21 August (11).
Sugarland, who were due to headline the event, have taken to their Twitter.com page to express their condolences.
In a message to fans, they write, "We are all right. We are praying for our fans, and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you’ll join us. They need your strength." And Bareilles, who had performed on the stage earlier, tweeted, "I’m speechless and feel so helpless. Please send love and prayers to Indianapolis tonight. My heart aches for the lives lost."

Actress ROSE MCGOWAN still shudders when she recalls the Italian hippie commune where she spent her childhood - because she can’t imagine living life with a group of unwashed people today.
The star’s parents were part of the Children of God cult when McGowan was growing up and she was whisked off to Rome, where she’d sing hymns and religious songs on the streets for cash.
The Grindhouse actress can’t imagine what her parents were thinking - and hates to be reminded of the time she spent in the commune.
She says, "I don’t like stinky people around me. I don’t like, generally, people around me… They were hippies for Jesus.
"My father ran the Italian chapter, if you will, so River Phoenix and Joaquin Phoenix (who were also child members of the cult), they were in Venezuela, in the jungles. I got Rome. I had to sing Jesus songs on the streets of Rome.
"We lived in farmhouses." It all went sour for the young McGowan when her family returned to the U.S.
She adds, "I landed from Rome in Oregon, a backwater town in Oregon."

Celebrated Bangladesh filmmaker TAREQUE MASUD has been killed in a car crash. He was 55.
The director died along with local TV boss Ashfaque Munier Mishuk on Saturday (13Aug11) after their vehicle collided head-on with a bus outside Dhaka.
Masud’s wife Catherine and painter Dhali Al Mamun were also passengers in the car and they are in a serious condition in hospital, according to reports.
The award-winning director made a series of critically-acclaimed films, including 2002’s Matir Moina - which was the first Bangladeshi movie to be nominated for best foreign-language film at the Oscars. The film was based on his experiences as a student during the country’s war of independence in 1971.
Education minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, says, "It is a very unfortunate incident for us. Masud through his movies had given a new dimension to liberation war. Mishuk was an immensely talented journalist. It is a national loss." Thousands of people paid their respects at the Central Shaheed Minar monument in Dhaka on Sunday (14Aug11).
