THE INBETWEENERS IS IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN AT U.K. BOX OFFICE
Teenage comedy THE INBETWEENERS MOVIE is top of the class at the U.K. box office after scoring the biggest opening of all time for a British comedy.
The raucous film, a big-screen spin-off of the popular British sitcom, took $21 million (£13 million) in sales over the weekend (19-21Aug11).
The comedy, which focuses on a group of teenage boys enjoying a summer holiday in Greece, is also the second highest opening of 2011 in the U.K., with only Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 beating it.
Sci-fi prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes is in second place after taking $4 million (£2.5 million), while Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford’s blockbuster Cowboys & Aliens debuts in third place.
The Smurfs and the final Harry Potter movie round out the top five.
