Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:14 pm

The organisers of the Los Angeles street fair which is set to feature HANSON, BOBBY WOMACK and the reunited BUTTHOLE SURFERS this weekend (27-28Aug11) are facing a desperate last-ditch push for cash to stage the event.
Sunset Junction organisers lost a fight for permits on Monday (22Aug11) during a Board of Public Works hearing after city officials demanded payment for the policing and clean-up of last year’s (10) event and part-payment for this year’s festival.
Bosses are now hoping to raise $142,000 (GBP88,750) by noon on Wednesday (24Aug11) in order to continue with the 20011 fair.
If the money isn’t forthcoming and the permits are not given, the event will be cancelled for the first time in its 31-year history.
A spokesperson for Sunset Junction tells WENN, "We are working to raise the 2011 fees prior to the Board of Public Works hearing on Wednesday. Our intention is to show the City that Sunset Junction is a committed and reliable partner, who continues to contribute to the Silverlake community year-round, along with being one of the most anticipated and historic fairs in Los Angeles for 31 years.
"We’ve received a very positive response from our sponsors and supporters, and we are optimistic that we will reach our goal of obtaining the $142,000 necessary to pay the city. We also want the fans to know that no bands have cancelled yet. We remain optimistic and we’re diligently making every effort possible to move forward with Sunset Junction this weekend."

HUDSON HONOURS SLAIN NEPHEW WITH CHARITY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:11 pm

Singer JENNIFER HUDSON has founded a children’s charity in honour of her late nephew, who was murdered three years ago.
Hudson’s mother Darnell Donerson and brother Jason Hudson were shot dead in October of 2008 in Donerson’s Illinois home and the body of the singer’s seven-year-old nephew, Julian, was found in a car nearby three days later.
The Spotlight hitmaker was devastated by the triple murder and took a hiatus from her music career, but eventually bounced back from the loss.
She’s now found a way to pay an apt tribute to Julian by launching the Julian D. King Gift Foundation in his name. The charity will help provide holiday toys to needy children in Chicago.
She tells SELF Magazine, "I wanted to help kids in Julian’s memory… We were poor growing up, but I didn’t know it because we never went without or had a sad Christmas. It’s heart-wrenching to see kids with no holiday gifts. So my sister and I started a toy drive at our old church in Chicago, and now we’re expanding to school supplies.
"I believe God chooses celebrities to make a difference - otherwise, we’re pointless! It shouldn’t just be about us… I’ve been so blessed. Anything I can do to help kids, I’m there."

GYLLENHAAL TEACHES KIDS TO GARDEN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:08 pm

Actor JAKE GYLLENHAAL is urging kids to adopt healthy eating habits by teaming up with American schools to foster the importance of gardening.
The Brokeback Mountain star has partnered with famed chef Alice Waters to promote the Edible Schoolyard Project, a programme aimed at teaching children to grow and cook their own food, in order to prevent childhood obesity and other diseases like diabetes.
Gyllenhaal actively set an example and rolled up his sleeves to work with young kids at the Boys & Girls Club in San Francisco, California to prove that tending a garden can be fun and educational.
During an appearance on U.S. morning show Today on Tuesday (23Aug11), he said, "I grew up around gardens, growing my own food. My family did that a lot, that was a real source of community growing up. More than anything, I got to know my mother and father and my sister, and they got to know me, at the dinner table…
"The essence of the idea of these gardens is that the kids can come and experience what it’s like to grow something and see something grow. And then, once they do see it grow, they have a different relationship with what they eat."

BECKINSALE’S HUSBAND TALKED HER INTO UNDERWORLD ROLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:32 pm

KATE BECKINSALE had to be convinced by her filmmaker husband LEN WISEMAN to reprise her role as a vampire in the UNDERWORLD franchise.
The British actress starred in the first two movies, but was left out of the third instalment, and she was reluctant to reprise the role of the vampire character Selene in the forthcoming Underworld: Awakening as she was originally told the series was a trilogy.
However, Wiseman, who co-created the story, was determined to coax his wife into playing the part once more.
She says, "I really wasn’t intending to do another one. I kind of always heard that it was a trilogy and that was that.
"I didn’t like the idea of rehashing the same whole thing too much. I’ve never played the same part even twice before. So I thought that doing it for the third time was like, ‘Where would you take it where it is worth doing?’ "Len is a really great husband and has learned to just ignore his wife going, ‘No’, and just quietly write a script for a couple of years and then say, ‘Actually, I have had this pretty good idea’."

JAMES’ CHEESE RANGE INSPIRED BY KIDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:29 pm

BLUR rocker ALEX JAMES was inspired to produce a range of strange-flavoured cheeses when his kids became bored of his cooking.
The bassist, who owns and manages a dairy farm in the English countryside, has launched a selection of unique cheddars, including curry, sweet chilli, and tomato ketchup flavour.
Several food critics have slammed the tastes developed by James, but he’s now spoken out to defend his savoury snacks - and reveal the inspiration behind them.
In an article for British newspaper The Sun, he writes, "I remember the moment I knew it was time to go back to the drawing board. I had some of my own goats’ cheese in the fridge. I said, ‘Kids, we’re having my award-winning cheese for tea’. But they all wanted standard cheese on toast. I decided to make something I could enjoy with my family." Addressing criticism of his bizarre cheese flavours, he adds: "I’m so proud of these cheeses. I thought it was time to shake things up and I have. One critic called my ketchup-flavour cheese ‘an abomination’ without even tasting it - just like the crusty establishment figures reacted to punk rock when it came out. There is so much snobbery about food.
"I love everyday cheese and I love posh cheese. There’s room for everything. In a world where most things are becoming more similar, cheese is becoming more different."

He tells the BBC, "Today I just wish that when I walk down to my studio I could sit at my piano and be able to organise my thoughts, pull out one of the sheets of lyrics I have got in front of me, finish the song, record it and put it out on an album.

LOACH’S BANNED FILM TO BE BROADCAST AFTER 40 YEARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:26 pm

KEN LOACH’s controversial documentary about British charity Save the Children will finally be aired more than 40 years after it was banned.
The acclaimed director was commissioned by the charity and London Weekend Television to make a 53-minute documentary ahead of Save the Children’s 50th anniversary in 1969.
But bosses of the charity were less than impressed with the film’s critical view of their work in Kenya, particularly scenes showing its workers taking part in parades of the country’s former colonial overlords, and they subsequently axed the documentary.
Now the film is to be part of a major retrospective of Loach’s work at the British Film Institute in London next month (Sep11), after current Save the Children bosses agreed to lift the veto.
Justin Forsyth, chief executive of the charity, explained, "Save the Children has changed a lot, but the issues that come out in the film about colonialism, aid and charity are still relevant today. I think it’s great it’s being shown. I don’t think we should be in the film censorship business and we shouldn’t stifle debate."
