ELBOW PAUSE FESTIVAL GIG TO PREVENT CROWD CRUSH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:13 pm

British rockers ELBOW halted their gig at Spain’s Benicassim music festival on Friday (15Jul11) to prevent a crush in the crowds.
The band took to the main stage at the event and performed several songs, before frontman Guy Garvey became concerned when he noticed how cramped devotees were.
He told the crowd, "It’s a bit of a squeeze down the front, make sure you’re kind to everybody around you." Garvey’s comments did little to calm the enthusiastic revellers and he felt compelled to pause the set once more to urge fans to give each other a little more room.
He said, "Wait a minute, everybody step back. Everyone’s getting crushed down here. C’mon, step back, we’ve got a gig to do." The group then continued with their nine-song set.

GRANT REGRETS MAKING FOX FILM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:43 am

HUGH GRANT regrets making 20th Century Fox movie NINE MONTHS in 1995 because the studio is owned by embattled News of the World boss RUPERT MURDOCH.
The actor helped expose the British tabloid’s phone hacking scandal after interviewing a boastful reporter and writing an article for the New Statesman magazine based on the encounter.
And in the wake of the controversy, which forced the media tycoon to shut the down the hugely successful Sunday newspaper after 168 years, Grant admits he hates the fact he has a Fox credit on his resume.
He tells Entertainment Weekly, "It would certainly stick in my craw to work for Fox. I did make one film for them 16 years ago but I was naive then. I didn’t even know who owned it (studio)." And he couldn’t care less if the studio’s executives blacklisted him for his attacks on Murdoch and the mogul’s News Corporation empire: "It doesn’t bother me at all… I’m not wildly ambitious to make lots of films at the moment anyway."

GILMOUR ACCOMPANIES SON TO SENTENCING HEARING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:37 am

PINK FLOYD star DAVID GILMOUR accompanied his adopted son to court on Thursday (14Jul11) for a sentencing hearing after the youngster pleaded guilty to violent disorder in London’s student riots.
Cambridge University student Charlie Gilmour was caught on camera last December (10) swinging from a flag on the Cenotaph war memorial, joining an angry mob demonstrating against a hike in university tuition fees.
He was arrested days later and accused of involvement in an attack on a car carrying Charles, Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, during the protest.
Charlie’s mother Polly Samson and rocker dad David were both in the public gallery on Thursday at Kingston Crown Court in south west London, where the court heard how the 21 year old jumped on a security car escorting the British royals and ransacked a nearby clothing store.
The disgraced student was seen covering his face with his hands as prosecutors played video footage of his antics during the demonstrations.
In one clip, Charlie was heard saying, "They broke the moral law, we’re going to break all the laws. Arson. Destroy. We are not going to stand for it any more: storm Parliament." Sentencing has been adjourned until Friday (15Jul11) to allow Judge Nicholas Price to decide whether Gilmour threw a trash can at a car in the Royal convoy, which he denies.

WOOD NOT A FAN OF CLUBBING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:34 am

ELIJAH WOOD hates clubbing and questions the intelligence of people who dress up "in their finery" to stand in line outside ritzy venues that play loud, nonsensical music.
The Lord of the Rings star can’t understand why anyone would want to put themselves through the agony of visiting what he calls "overstyled douche cantinas".
In a column for Black Book magazine, he writes, "Crowds of people, dressed in their finery, standing outside, lining up around the block yearning for acceptance - only to enter a loud space with predominantly awful music, bottle service, and neither the room to move nor the ability to utter words that can be heard without shouting.
"I’ve often wondered why hordes flock to these overstyled douche cantinas."

PULLMAN STARS IN MANGO MANIA DOCUMENTARY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:34 am

INDEPENDENCE DAY star BILL PULLMAN has become a mango expert thanks to a new fruit documentary he is part of.
The actor has been a fan of rare fruits for years and grows them in the orchard at his home in Los Angeles, and when he was approached to appear in documentarian Jung Chang’s film The Fruit Hunters he jumped at the chance to expand his knowledge about mangoes.
Pullman tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "I’ve been growing rare fruits for a while quietly in my spare time and it got into a profile two years ago and this Montreal documentary filmmaker read about it. We met about a year and a half ago and he’s been building it and now we’re starting to shoot.
"I just got back from Florida, the centre of tropical fruits, where they had the mango festival, so I’m gonna be on camera for parts of it. I was kind of the audience’s eye into the world of the wildness of mangoes.
"There were 350 different varieties and I tasted over 25 different mangoes. There are mangoes like a Creamsicle or a Pina Colada. It’s the fierceness of people searching for exotic flavors and they’re all gathered there in Florida. For somebody who dabbles in horticulture, like I do, it was a thrill and a half.
"The next phase is we’re gonna shoot in L.A. for a bit because there are a bunch of growers and eventually we’ll end up at the Seychelles Islands." And now he can’t travel anywhere without checking out the local mangoes.
Pullman adds, "In England I had gone into this nice Pakistani grocer that had incredible mangoes that we don’t get here (in America). I bought some in the morning and had to carry them into my interview sessions (for Torchwood). I felt a little greedy carrying boxes and not offering them, so they (journalists) got offered mangoes.
"At the end of the day I still had some so I brought them into the restaurant and the bartender made mango martinis, mango mimosas, mango margarita and then mango parfait."
