JOHN LEGEND is adamant he did not copy a track from an aspiring artist who has accused him of plagiarism, insisting he would "never steal anyone’s song".
Anthony Stokes has filed suit against the soul star, alleging he handed him a demo tape after a concert in 2004 and later heard similarities with his work in Legend’s 2006 recording, Maxine’s Interlude.
Stokes claims Legend’s song is based on his own track Where Are You Now?, but the singer has vehemently denied the allegations and has vowed to fight the case in court.
He tells E! Online, "This gentleman made an accusation that’s not true and we know it’s not true. I never heard of his song until he sued me. I would never steal anyone’s song. I’ve never, ever done that before. Never even been accused of it before, and we will fight it in court and we will prevail. I’m not worried about it. I know the truth is on my side."

U2 paid tribute to BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN’s late E STREET BAND member CLARENCE CLEMONS during their show in The Boss’ native New Jersey on Wednesday night (20Jul11).
The Irish rockers took to the stage for a massive gig at the New Meadowlands Stadium, and they didn’t let the event pass without honouring the late saxophonist, who died last month (Jun11) at the age of 69.
During the encore, frontman Bono displayed a sign bearing Clemons’ name and dedicated their track Moment of Surrender to the musician, according to the The Star-Ledger.
At the end, the singer also slipped in some words from Springsteen’s track Jungleland, which features one of Clemons’ famous sax solos.

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR is urging fellow stars to follow her lead by attending Comic-Con in disguise.
The actress is set to appear at this year’s (11) comic book convention in San Diego, California at the weekend (23-24Jul11) to promote her new TV show Ringer.
She has been a star guest at the event many times in the past and she enjoys mingling with fans in the main hall anonymously by wearing a mask to cover her face.
Gellar tells the Hollywood Reporter, "I always say to actresses, if you haven’t been - this is going to sound really funny - but get a mask and take a look around. I’m serious. You get rushed into your panel (discussion) and you come out of the backside, and you never actually see the main hall. It’s pretty amazing." Superbad star Michael Cera fooled fans at last year’s (10) convention by walking around the event in a gorilla mask.

Athletics legend LINFORD CHRISTIE has been hit with a driving ban after crashing his car into a taxi while travelling on the wrong side of the road.
The British sprinter smashed his luxury Audi head-on into the cab, which was carrying a newlywed couple, near his ex-girlfriend’s home in Buckinghamshire, England in May last year (10).
Christie admitted the accident happened after he suffered a "lapse", telling a court in England this week (beg18Jul11), "I was just driving along and the next thing I knew, I saw a light and we had a crash, and that was it… I accept that it was my fault." On Thursday (21Jul11), the athlete, who took gold in the 100 metres at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, was found guilty of careless driving but was cleared of a more serious charge of dangerous driving.
He was banned from getting behind the wheel for 15 months and ordered to pay an $8,000 (£5,000) fine and $1,600 (£1,000) in court costs.

British royal PRINCE ANDREW has quit as the country’s trade envoy just months after he was engulfed in scandal over his friendship with a convicted child sex offender.
The Duke of York faced calls to step down as the U.K.’s special representative for international trade and investment after his links to shamed American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein were exposed in March (11).
He announced on Thursday (21Jul11) he is quitting after 10 years as Britain’s trade envoy, a role which has attracted criticism over his frequent luxury trips abroad.
The prince has been friends for years with Epstein, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2008 after being convicted of child sex offences.
There is no suggestion of any impropriety on the British royal’s part.

KELSEY GRAMMER has settled a custody dispute with his ex-wife Camille over the former couple’s two children, according to a U.S. report.
The former Frasier star divorced Camille in February (11) and married his new wife, Kayte Walsh, just days later, leaving the former couple to continue thrashing out terms of arrangements for their kids, son Jude, six, and daughter Mason, nine.
The battle reportedly turned nasty with Camille demanding sole custody of both children, while Grammer allegedly asked to keep Jude in his care, leaving Mason with her mother.
The two parties have now reached an arrangement after months of negotiations, according to TMZ.com.
The website reports the children will spend most of their time with Camille and visits with their father will be arranged around his work schedule.

ALEC BALDWIN has called on Britain’s Prime Minister DAVID CAMERON to resign over his handling of the ongoing News of the World phone-hacking scandal.
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has been at the centre of claims reporters at his now defunct U.K. tabloid, which he closed earlier this month (Jul11), used a private investigator to illegally access voicemail messages belonging to royals, celebrities, and the families of crime victims.
Britain’s leader Cameron has been dragged into the controversy because he hired the newspaper’s former editor Andy Coulson as his communications director.
Coulson was forced to step down from his post in February (11) over the growing scandal, and he was arrested and questioned by police earlier this month (Jul1), although he denies having any knowledge of any wrongdoing at the newspaper.
Baldwin, a keen political commentator who has hinted he wants to run for New York mayor, insists Cameron should resign as prime minister because of his links to the scandal.
In a post on his Twitter.com page, the actor writes, "Cameron should resign. England is filled with people who could do a better job." When one follower disagreed with his comment, Baldwin replied, "Brits are right to be defensive about Cameron. That must hurt like hell that the crypto fascist Rupert M had (London’s police service) Scotland Yard in his pocket.
"For the U.K… try not to be like USA. Zero tolerance for abuses like this criminal activity. Cameron should resign."

The Cuban hunk who was romantically linked to JENNIFER LOPEZ following her marriage split is at the centre of a sex scandal.
Actor William Levy, who played Lopez’s lover in her I’m Into You video, has dismissed rumours suggesting he is the cause of the singer’s break-up with husband Marc Anthony, with his representative insisting "the only relationship there was or is, is a professional relationship. That’s all there’s ever been".
Levy subsequently hit headlines again after it emerged he was accused of having sexual relations with a 17 year old girl a year ago (Jul10).
The unnamed teen filed a complaint against Levy, claiming he forced her to "perform fellatio upon him" during a tryst in a hotel room.
She is demanding $2.5 million (£1.5 million) in punitive damages, according to U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight.
Levy refutes the claims against him, insisting the plaintiff claimed to be 19 and the sex was consensual.
He also maintains authorities thoroughly investigated the matter following a complaint filed by his alleged one night stand partner and found no basis for proceeding with criminal action against him.
After the investigation, Levy reportedly received a letter, in which the the plaintiff allegedly demanded $950,000 (£594,000) - or she would share the story with the media, before filing a lawsuit against the actor.

SIMPLY RED star MICK HUCKNALL credits his wife and daughter with saving his life, insisting he would be "dead" if he had carried on jetting around the world chasing models.
The British singer was a famous philanderer in his hey-day, and has been linked to a string of beautiful celebrities including Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and supermodel Helena Christensen.

BEYONCE got the chance to wear her dream wedding dress in her new video after spying it in a shop window on her way to the Grammy Awards last year (10).
The R&B superstar fell in love with the Baracci Beverly Hills gown from afar and called the Los Angeles boutique a year later when she needed the perfect fairytale wedding outfit for her Best Thing I Never Had video.
She tells Access Hollywood, "I saw it in the window… when I was at the Grammys. It was just, like, a beautiful fantasy, so we called and they still had the dress… I felt like a queen (in it)." But the singer admits shooting a wedding-themed promo for the song without her real-life husband Jay-Z was a little strange.
Beyonce adds, "When I walked down the aisle, I’m like, ‘This is kind of creepy, there’s some other man standing here’.
"It was really beautiful and people were all really excited like it was really my wedding. My mother was even like, ‘Awww!’ I’m like, ‘Mom, it’s a video; this is not my dress…’"

Teen sensation JUSTIN BIEBER is planning to take a month off to "think, pray and… grow up" before he starts working full-time on his next album.
The Baby hitmaker has hired a series of rap and R&B superstars to collaborate with him on the upcoming record, including Kanye West, Drake and Chris Brown, and Bieber is hoping an extended break will help him mature before he starts the studio sessions.
He tells The Hollywood Reporter, "I’ve been working so hard, I’m taking a month off. It’s been great to just think and enjoy hanging out with my friends.
"I’m still growing up, and when you’re working every day, you don’t really get a chance to figure out who you are. So with the time off, I’m able to think, pray and just kind of grow up."

GLEE star LEA MICHELE will debut songs she has recorded for 2012 animated movie DOROTHY OF OZ at Comic-Con in San Diego, California this weekend (23Jul11).
Bryan Adams has written songs for the film’s soundtrack and they will be unveiled at the world’s biggest comic book convention.
Michele will play Dorothy in the film, which also features Hugh Dancy, Sir Patrick Stewart, Martin Short and Adams.

PRIVATE PRACTICE star AUDRA MCDONALD will be the star performer at New York’s first legal same-sex marriage ceremony this weekend (24Jul11).
Politicians in the Big Apple passed a bill last month (Jun11) allowing gay partners to wed, and the law will come into force at midnight on Sunday (24Jul11).
The first official same-sex union will be officiated by the city’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Tony Award winner McDonald has been invited to sing at the historical occasion.
In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Gonna sing at the celebration of the first gay marriage officiated by Mayor Bloomberg this weekend. So honoured and excited!"

PETER JACKSON has disappointed film fans by turning down the chance to talk about THE HOBBIT at Comic-Con later this week (21-24Jul11) - because it is "too early" to discuss the project.
More than 120,000 people are expected to attend the massive comic book convention in San Diego, California to see Hollywood’s biggest filmmakers and stars talk about their upcoming movies.
Jackson was invited to chair a presentation on his highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings prequel, but the director snubbed the offer because the film is still in the first stages of shooting.
In a post on his Facebook.com page, Jackson writes, "Bad news is that we won’t be doing any Hobbit presentation. (Studios) New Line and Warner Bros. were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There’s so much more of the films still to shoot." The first installment of the two-part epic is due in cinemas next year (12).

MEL GIBSON’s gay brother has opened up about the day he ‘came out’ to his adoptive family in a revealing new magazine article.
Sydney-based insurance agency executive Andrew Gibson, 43, admits his father was stunned when he told the truth about his sexuality - but actor Mel was always supportive.
Andrew tells the Globe, "When I told my dad, he cried and blamed himself… That broke my heart.
"Mel just said, ‘It’s not my choice, but I love you and you’re my brother.’" Andrew has been standing up for his older brother in recent years as the Hollywood star’s reputation took a hammering following an anti-Semitic outburst at a cop during a DUI arrest and the breakdown of his tempestuous romance with Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva.
Andrew reveals he was shocked by the news reports detailing his brother’s DUI arrest in 2006, recalling, "When I heard them, I just thought, ‘That isn’t Mel. He has never said anything abusive, aggressive or racist in his life’." Gibson’s younger brother also admits he is still upset that his sibling is no longer married to longtime wife Robyn - the mother of his seven kids - insisting she was "the most important thing in that family," and adding, "She held it together… looked after Mel."

A HARRY POTTER plagiarism lawsuit which was shut down in both Britain and the U.S. could rise again Down Under as the plaintiffs look into launching a new case in Australia.
The trustee of late writer Adrian Jacobs’ estate filed suit against author J.K. Rowling and her U.K. publishers Bloomsbury in Britain, and her American representatives at Scholastic back in 2009, alleging parts of her 2000 novel Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire were lifted from Jacobs’ Willy The Wizard stories.
The American lawsuit was kicked out of court in January (11), while the British case came to an end last week (15Jul11) when the plaintiffs failed to fulfil an order to pay 65 per cent of the court costs up front, amounting to a staggering $2.4 million.
However, the case could be brought back to life Down Under, according to Max Markson, the Australian spokesperson for Jacobs’ estate.
He tells the Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, "The case that we brought in London has been put down because we didn’t have the funding.
"We have got all the legalised evidence so it could be brought in another country like Australia. Like (Potter villain) Lord Voldemort we are not quite dead yet."

Former BOND girl ANGELA SCOULAR died after drinking a corrosive cleaning liquid, an inquest has heard.
The wife of comedian Leslie Phillips was found unconscious at the couple’s home in Maida Vale, London in April (11). Doctors fought to save her life in hospital but she was later pronounced dead.
At an inquest into her death at Westminster Coroner’s Court earlier this week (begs18Jul11), Dr. Fiona Wilcox recorded a verdict that the actress ended her life "while the balance of her mind was disturbed".
The ruling came after the court heard Scoular suffered 40 per cent burns to her throat, body and dietary tract after drinking cleaning liquid, containing 91 per cent sulphuric acid, and pouring it over herself before falling down the stairs, fracturing her spine.
The 65 year old suffered from alcoholism, depression and lived in fear that her bowel cancer, which she beat in 2008, would return.
Phillips, 87, was too ill to attend the hearing, but wrote a statement explaining that the couple enjoyed a happy life, despite his wife’s issues, stating, "Angela had been an alcoholic since I met her. She did stop drinking from time to time but would return to drinking. She was a nervous type of person, not confident. But she was a kind, generous person who would help me with my work and I would help with hers. She was lovely when she was sober." Scoular played Ruby Bartlett in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service in 1969.

KATY PERRY will be the girl to beat at next month’s (Aug11) MTV Video Music Awards after landing nine nominations to become the leading lady ahead of peers like ADELE, LADY GAGA and BEYONCE.
The California Gurls singer picked up nods in most of the ceremony’s biggest categories when the categories were announced on Wednesday (20Jul11).
She’s up for Best Pop Video, Best Collaboration, Best Direction and Video of the Year for her explosive Firework promo.
British sensation Adele is close on her heels with seven nominations. She’ll also compete for Video of the Year.
Matching Adele’s seven nods is Kanye West, who is who is up for prizes including Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Male Video. He also has two shots at the Best Collaboration award for his duets with Rihanna on Lights and Katy Perry’s E.T.
Gaga, who stole the show at last year’s (10) award show by turning up in that now notorious meat dress, is up for three trophies - the same amount as Beyonce. Gaga and Beyonce will battle it out in both the Best Female Video and Best Choreography categories, while they have also received nods for Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography respectively. Rap newcomer Nicki Minaj is also aiming for a trio of awards.
Eminem is another main man on the nominations list, he will fight for three Moonmen trophies - Best Male Video, Best Direction and Best Cinematography - for his Rihanna collaboration Love The Way You Lie. Bruno Mars has four nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Best Male Video for Grenade.
Others battling for the revered Video of the Year prize include Beastie Boys (Make Some Noise) and Tyler, The Creator (Yonkers).
The ceremony will take place in New York on 28 August (11).
